Same here. I had to delete two level 30 somethings because of glitches. I wouldn't let that stop you though. Just keep a ton of saves so you can go back a ways and avoid the glitch.
Will I be signing my life away for the next couple months after purchase?
Yup and buying a ton of dodo to smoke with it. IMO, all these loot based games have a fuck load of replay value.. I just recently started up Diablo III again, that game is amazing 3 years after release.

It's an alternate future where there were never transistors, everything is vacuum tube I think. It's a 1950s version of the future, I guess chosen to correspond to the red scare after WW2. The smiling Vault Boy logo is a reference to all the smiling happy cute cartoon characters used in all that duck and cover crap the schools used to teach kids.

Fallout games always tend to be pretty hard at the beginning (FO2 was the toughest) and as you level your character up they become a lot easier. In this game you want to craft mods to your weapons and armor too.

Certain areas you wont be able to match up with unless your leveled up.. Plus, you're forced into modding your weapons to have a chance.. I have my perks geared towards semi-auto pistols, and I have a nasty pistol I'm working on called the Ass Raper.. It puts in work on pretty much anything I've faced, 2-3 shots tops.

Anyone run across the bug where you get really low fps in the opening intro videos, eg the Bethesda logo or the SPECIAL videos on Fallout 4 for PC? Turns out it's from the game having initially set Vibration to ON, even if you don't have a controller plugged in, and turning Vibration off eliminates this.

Speaking of GSync, if you turn it off and and you aren't pushing 144 fps, how does a 144 Hz monitor look? Is everything out of sync? I mean 50 fps usually looks pretty bad to me on a 60 Hz panel, so I'm wondering if say 100 fps looks bad on a 144 Hz panel. Or if you're bouncing between say 70 fps and 110 fps, which is what most games would do for me on my 970 if I turned off vsync.

I honestly don't know, haven't tried that yet. With G-Sync on and refresh set to 144, it looks great no matter the actual frame rate. It starts looking like shit around 45 FPS or less IMO

I remember a bunch of people with AMD GPUs hating on the game the first couple of weeks it was out and it absolutely rapes AMD cpus, but other than that it has gotten pretty solid reviews. It's an easy 10/10 for me. After playing it a few weeks I think it's a big improvement over Fallout 3 and roughly on par with New Vegas and Fallout 2. It's nice to play a Fallout with modern graphics too. It crushes both Dying Light and Witcher 3 for my favorite game of the year. Tough call between it and GTA V for me though, but I consider GTA V a 2013 game since that's when I played it on 360.

The performance is solid for me. God rays and shadow distance on medium and everything else maxed and it stays at a locked 60 fps on my system. It's not Witcher 3 graphically, but I don't understand everyone complaining like it sucks graphically. I always do characters with high luck for lots of damage from critical shots, so I mostly play it like all the other Fallouts, using VATS instead of hip fire and aim down sight. It still feels like an RPG to me since I don't build my character to play it like a FPS.

LOL one of the user reviews that gave it 1/10 had someone bitching about how he could stare at a river in Skyrim and how it was so beautiful but that Fallout 4 was ugly. What the fuck does he expect, an urban nucelar wasteland to look like a fucking national park like Skyrim? :lol
This is my first fallout and I'm about 5 hours in so far,.. I'm enjoying it. Could never get into Witcher 3 (which is weird because I enjoyed witcher 2), and I haven't played the new MGS yet, so this is easily my favorite game of the year so far.
I have an amd 6300 and performance hasn't been too bad. 55-60 fps with dips to the 40-50 range in combat. I was walking through some city and dropped down to 30 fps though, can't remember where.

I don't have an unlocked cpu, so I haven't bothered with trying that shit on max since those are both cpu bound settings. I probably should try them a little higher though since my 970 is at about 40-60% usage most of the time (I also cap at 60 fps though).

It's basically a locked i7-4770 with no igp but marketed as a server processor. I really hate ever dropping under 60 fps so I always go a little under the settings to stay at mostly 60 fps, I always try to do my settings so it's always at 60 fps.
Intel finally wised up with Skylake though by only allowing the Xeon E3 cpus to work with server boards. In Sandy Bridge, Ivy Bridge, and Haswell you could buy Xeon E3 CPUs that are just i7s in a different box and with ECC memory support turned on for $50 less than the corresponding i7, and with Haswell this has started becoming popular.

I know I'm going to want whatever 70 or 80 series card they come out with considering how huge a jump the 600 series was over the 500 series last time Nvidia did a node shrink in 2012. 500 series was 40 nm, 600 series was 28 nm, and they have been stuck at 28 nm forever. But Pascal will be 16 nm. Well, assuming they don't pull an AMD and just rebrand Maxwell cards at all but the highest end, as no way I'm paying $1000 for a Titan.

I hope they don't gimp the 70 series. On one hand they didn't sell a whole lot of 980s since even with the 3.5 GB VRAM the 970 performs pretty closely. But then on the other hand the 970 sold like crazy and they shifted the new norm from the $250 price point the 760 occupied to the $330 price point the 970 did. So hopefully they'll put out another really badass 70 series card instead of what they did in the 700 series, which was rebrand the 680 as the 770 but with higher clocks and then have a huge gulf in performance between it and the 780.
Card like that might be a waste with an FX-6300 though, you'd have to jump to an i5 to not have a massive bottleneck.

Just noticed there's a libScePad.dll file in the game folder, that's an internal driver from Sony for the Dualshock 4 under Windows. It's USB only, but I did connect my DS4 and sure enough, it seems to work with Fallout 4...
EDIT: although I'm reading it's not well debugged and can cause some issues

The next DLC for Falllout 4 looks even shittier than Automatron. SMH I was hoping for some epic DLC like New Vegas had.

So it's basically more workshop options? That's lame. Oh well, it wasn't likely that I'd get any of the DLC anyway. I lose all interest in these games once the main storyline is over.

I knew that was going to happen, AFTER I (and probably about everyone) have built up like 8 settlements all nice and fancy and am totally sick of settlement building, they now introduce all the good building stuff... :lol :bang

There is supposed to be a pretty big DLC in May. Some of the DLC in this series have been amazing. Like The Pitt in Fallout 3 or Old World Blues in Fallout New Vegas.

I hate that aspect of the game tbh... the building shit... I mean, it's cool and all, but you get the feeling they sacrificed some of the story side to polish that shit... now this DLC...
I hope it doesn't become something standard for Fallout from here on out...

they need to come out with DLCs the size of the Skyrim ones. Dragonborn was very underrated, tbh.

anyone ever play Stalker Lost Alpha? was a glitchy fan remake that I didn't get close to finishing, but it was genuinely creepy and atmospherically kicks fallout 4's ass. I actually feared some of the creatures in that game and didn't want to go into some areas, fallout 4 creatures are kinda meh. and the rad storms in fallout 4 :lmao so disappointing, should have copied lost alpha and have alarms go off and you have a couple of minutes to find shelter or you are dead...

skyrim's second dlc was hearthfire, which was basically building 3 houses. I doubt they are going full on personalization.

I finished the storyline for the Far Harbor DLC, and it's pretty fucking forgettable. Nowhere near as good as the Old World Blues DLC from New Vegas or The Pitt DLC from FO3.

It ain't worth $25. I got my season pass for like $10 from newegg and I don't think it has been worth it for the 3 DLC so far. There was one pretty cool Minecraft/Lemmings-like minigame in it but otherwise it's the same as the previous 100+ hours of FO4.

TBH I'm done with the nickel and dime crap every game has to release. If it isn't a substantial expansion, I'm not buying it. And I'm certainly not buying a season pass without knowing beforehand what all that will include.

I gotta say, Far Harbor was extremely disappointing. It takes place up in Maine around Acadia National Park, but the scenery is crap. I know it's post nuclear war, but everything is so ugly. It's not scenic like for instance the Zion National Park expansion in Fallout New Vegas. Having played the entire Fallout canon in the last year, I think I'd rank the games in the order:
1. Fallout 2
2. Fallout New Vegas
3. Fallout
4. Fallout 4
5. Fallout 3
Of course all 5 of these games are excellent, and FO1, 3, and 4 are really hard to rank vs one another. FO2 and New Vegas are head and shoulders above the others though. But man the expansions are all painfully boring this time around.

If you haven't played the New Vegas DLC you're really missing out. Two of the four expansions are incredible (Old World Blues and the Zion NP one), a third is really good (the one with ED-E the robot, Lonesome Road I think), and the fourth (Dead Money) is horrible. You're in a casino, and it's the single worst set of missions in the entire Fallout canon.
FO3 has two really good DLC in The Pitt and then an alien ship set of missions.

Pretty sure I completed all of FO3 DLC, though I remember very little about that game for some reason. I didn't bother with New Vegas after I beat the main storyline.
I'm just tired of devs releasing DLC with little more than a few new weapons or an hour of extra gameplay. That isn't worth 20 bucks for me. Bioware always does that shit (though Awakening doesn't count as that was a full blown 20+ hour expansion).

They make their DLC packages ripoffs on purpose individually to encourage season pass purchases. If you're gonna consider buying the extra content, gotta do it as a packaged deal or it makes it worse.

do the settlements play any role in the new DLC? I thought/hoped that having built-up settlements would eventually be a factor in the DLC's. I put way way too much time into those f*cking places and people, even giving everyone nice clothes and elite upgraded weapons... :bang

True, the main game is excellent. I don't like graphical mods in Fallout games though, the wasteland is supposed to be ugly as fuck and some of the mods that make it look beautiful like it's Skyrim really ruin the atmosphere.

stopped playing this game about a year ago, I don't remember a single thing about the plot other than brotherhood vs. robots-are-people-too vs underground-dad-science. I was planning to build my most awesome settlement on that island, and was off to a pretty awesome start... but without any use for it, literally no purpose for it to even be in the game, let alone 20 or so others, I just never went back after setting off that nuke.
but that settlement, it still plagues me, the west side was already so great, I covered that destroyed house pretty well and build around the current docks...
anyways, I was wondering: how many y'all here chose to purify the water in Fallout 3?

I recently started playing again with the Steam Controller this time around.. It just feels like a chore because I don't find myself wandering around and enjoying the scenery like I did in Skyrim
