Why are people saying it like it's somehow the Warriors' fault that some of these Point Guards got hurt? Conley and Holiday shouldn't be on that graphic imo, both guys while banged up still only missed a game of their series with the Dubs. And Patrick Beverly was out, but Jason Terry did a damn good job in filling in for him throughout the Rockets' run. People are now grasping at straws to somehow discredit what the Warriors have done this season.

That would have been the case in the past and it did happen when they bitched about the Spurs being lucky to win in '03 but I don't recall any titles after the first two where the media discredited the spurs. Especially after winning 5 the spurs have gotten the respect of the media and that is evident with so many articles and polls stating the Spurs are the best team of the post Jordan era along with Duncan being now ranked ahead of Kobe by the majority of media pundits. Also who gives a shit what Laker fans have to say since we already knowing they are the stupidest fan base ever. says who? when a team is missing a starter the entire lineup suffers and plays out of place Sure that happens but none of those teams are constructed to beat a deeper, more talented team in the Warriors. The Pelicans D is pretty solid but they're not consistent on O even with a healthy Jrue. The Grizz are anemic on offense and Mike Conley missed 1 game. Not exactly series defining. Patrick Beverly would be the 2nd most of concern but again, their offense went through Harden trying to do Harden things and Dwight who's not exactly Mensa out there. The only one I'd give any credence to is Kyrie Irving Because as the Cavs are currently constructed, he was the 2nd best option on the team. You don't replace 23pts 2 blks and 4 steals with J.R. Killing Folks Smith or Timofy Mozgov.

Totally agree with this post.

We all would like to have an easy path to the Finals...but it shouldn't diminish the accomplishment at all. The word "Asterisk" is just too harsh. Words like lucky, blessed, and fortunate are more appropriate.

If the 8th seed in the Western Conference somehow played against teams in the playoffs who suffered injuries to key players...I could see how some people would look down on that accomplishment. But, this isn't the case. The Warriors are the best team in the NBA and they've proved it all year long. This situation does not call for an asterisk IMHO.

The Heat were 100% healthy in last year's Finals IIRC, but ya, Ibaka missing 2 games obviously made a significant difference..the Spurs' 2013 West run was pretty easy, too..

Even giving the Warriors credit for their dominance, it can't really be argued that they didn't have an easy run..they didn't play against any great teams, tbh..kind of reminds me of the easy run the 2007 Spurs had, as well, although the Suns were probably just as good as those Spurs..

Wade looked great in the first 3 rounds, and he looked great in the Finals when he was covered by Belinelli or Ginobili:lol..people just made excuses for him in the Finals because he struggled when matched up against Green or Leonard, which is typical of declining, ex-stars(see our own Tony Parker, for example)..

Playing through minor, nagging injuries is pretty common in the playoffs, especially for older players..if we're going to consider that as "injured", then I guess Duncan and Ginobili have been injured every year for the past 8 playoffs:lol..

Again I don't buy that considering the media has not disrespected the Spurs since the '03 championship. If you don't believe this than give me some examples and cite them where the media dissed the Spurs recent 3 championships. You do care what Laker fans think you mention that in the previous post by saying they would have ran their mouths if the Spurs had won under similar circumstances as the warriors did.

talk about luck. did they play any team that was at full strength the entire post season?

There wasn't a single team that could/can compete with them of the teams they faced, full strength or not. Even when Memphis got Conley back, they proceeded to get run off the court. Now had the playoff seedlings not been screwed up by a quirky division and conference standings setup and if the Clippers don't choke to the Rockets, they may have had to deal with both the Spurs and the Clippers, who both could have taken them down, so they got a major break in facing Memphis and the Rockets instead.

God, I hate sports fans, tbh..such a stupid breed..

Zach Lowe's Finals preview from last year: http://grantland.com/features/nba-finals-preview-heat-spurs-2014/

Dwyane Wade, a borderline liability last time around, is healthy and productive again, and Lewis’s frisky play has given a thin roster new versatility. The Spurs outscored Miami by 54 points last season with Wade on the court, per NBA.com; Miami won the series only because it blitzed San Antonio by 49 points in the 86 minutes Wade sat, and that trend continued even as Miami recovered to win Games 6 and 7 at home. Those numbers reversed almost exactly when Miller was on the floor, and he was a valuable wild card for the Heat. They miss him.

Wade can’t shoot from long range, and he was always hanging around the baseline, mucking up Miami’s spacing:

:lmao mr. Lebron is leading a team with a bunch of scrubs to the finals last year. Last year you were tearing wade a new asshole because he struggled even though he was dealing with an injury. Pick a lane and stick to it.

What does that have to do with injury? Wade was pretty bad in 2013, and I don't remember bashing him in 2014, but he wasn't that great anymore, either..

There was no mention of Wade's injury prior to the Finals..I can link dozens of previews that don't mention it, at all, and most of them discuss how he looks great:lol..

I'm not even on Diaz's side in this argument, Spurs have benefited from injuries, too, but Wade wasn't one of them, actually..it's especially silly, considering the Heat played much better in the 2013 Finals when Wade was off the floor, Spurs' struggled to defend their shooters + Lebron..

Ibaka is a much stronger argument, since the Spurs' clearly struggle against him on both sides..

It just looked like to me he lost a step in the Finals. He was slower, for sure. Plus, he didn't have the same lift on his jumper. You may be correct though...it could have been fatigue of reaching 4 straight Finals. I mean he let Splitter throw his shit back in his face for Christ's sake.

I know it's the Leastern Conference but he was playing really well until the Finals. Danny Green just shut him down.

I won't argue that they're not a "franchise of many mistakes"...

But seriously, what are they to do? You honestly think they're going to call every prospect's agent and ask, "Hey, does you client really want to come to Minnesota?" Then take the player they feel who is the best who answered, "Yes"? While totally ignoring the fact that 5-10 guys are better prospects in their opinion.

That makes zero sense.

The Warriors did us a solid favor in 2007 by taking out the mavs who more likely than not, would've beat us that year in the playoffs so it's only karma that we were eliminated in the first round this year to give them an easy road to the finals.

See, there you go again with the deluded nonsense. In reality, if there are books written about the NBA from 1999-2014, the Spurs will be a feature, not a footnote. And the idea of a "dynasty" cannot be literally applied to sports anyway, as it is a metaphor. Wake up dude.

Sickening to see how many Spurfans are brats who act entitled. There was no way we would have beaten this Warriors team if healthy, it just WASN'T OUR YEAR.

Most of the spur fans acting entitled are really young considering they were born after 1990 so there is no memory of a period of time where the Spurs struggled just to be a relevant franchise. They didn't have to endure the Pre-Duncan spur struggles so they are spoiled. Also a lot of them are not real spur fans but bandwagon jumpers who became fans the last few years.

I'm a realist who respects the game. I'm not going to act like we were going to roll through everyone this year because our players weren't as dedicated to it as they were the year before. They didn't have the same amount of desire, it's very clear to me. The Clippers played their hearts out to win against us while we never really took them as seriously as they took us — that why we blew it.

Next year the Spurs will be back to elite status.

The Spirit of Fellowship should've prompted Luva to pay. I paid him when I lost a bet. Man's word and all that.

"Would would God do?"

Do Unto Others as You Would Have Them Do Unto You

That's what God said. I'm asking you what would God do?

Smite Luva?

I wouldn't invalidate a title, just pointing out that they aren't a dynasty - but a lesser footnote in NBA history.
And here you are middle of the fucking night on a Friday in the beginning of summer, on Spurstalk talking about irrelevancy. How cute.

In this case he would.

How could you take that money? I'd be content just to have the win and what that represents, most of the time it's a Lakers victory, or, Spurs loss. That'd be enough for me. Would I like the money? Of course, but, it would be sour at reality. "He" wouldn't have it anymore. And only "he" had it to begin with. "I" never had it.

Doesn't work like that, Dian.

People say 80s basketball, not 80-90s basketball.

Even just in the 00s, it was a virtual deadlock between the Spurs and Lakers. Regardless of rank order, they would obviously both be remembered, unless you're too stupid to remember two teams from one decade.

But honestly, decades are arbitrary. The fact that we use a base-10 number system is an arbitrary cultural convention. The human mind works by "chunking" together relevant information. In other words, the Duncan Era is the relevant unit of analysis.

Jrue Holiday, Patrick Beverly, and Conley weren't going to put their teams over the Warriors team.

Disagree with Conley, he made a huge difference in that series

Fine, you're entitled to bust our ass over our miserable season. Do it. That does not preclude us from breaking your ass for your failure. If I missed the golden opportunity that you've had I'd be physically ill. All you had to do was stay upright against the likes of the Clippers & the Rockets and the Warriors. The Warriors are going to stand up to you? They genuflected to James last night and without Amy you own James.
It does actually. The one who missed the platform can't talk shit about the bronze.

Only faggots lodge the asterisk on a title. You win or you don't, and in November every team has the same choices on who to draft, hire, and play and when. In June, the team that had the most success with those choices wins.
