Thursday’s tip-off to the NBA Finals scored its best-ever Game 1 rating on ABC, pulling in a 12.9 per Nielsen’s overnight numbers.
That preliminary total, which is subject to change in final ratings, is currently 24 percent higher than 2014’s Game 1 (Miami Heat vs. San Antonio Spurs).

:lmao

Even a re-run of Family Ties draws more viewers than San Antonio in the playoffs.

Spurs stay on your minds... You even joined a damn Spurs forum instead of a Lakers board...

Comprehension skills doing work.

That includes all other Finals game 1s at ABC.

Only Lakerfan thinks the outdated TV ratings model declares success or glory for an NBA championship.

Most people agree that the last 2 NBA Finals' were excellent games that were great for basketball fans (people loved seeing the Heat get beat down), and 2013 games were very close. Nobody cares if random people who just wants to see LeBron or Steph Curry play watches or not.

Honestly, last year's Finals were painful to watch. 2013 was great.

Probably the worst Finals in a long time. Worse than Orlando vs LA.

The ratings killers got more viewers than the Lakers did in 2008 and 2009, which is pretty surprising, tbh:lol..even the 2010 Finals needed a record amount of viewers in game 7 to make it into the top 3 IIRC..

2010 Finals 18.4
2013 Finals 17.7
2011 Finals 17.3
2012 Finals 16.1
2014 15.5
2008 14.8
2009 14.4

Spurs are pretty fortunate Lebron/Miami elevated their interest level across the world, tbh..

^^^ This, the marketing hype brings in some casual fans, the real fans always watch the finals or most of it when they can. GSW have been hyped up all year as has Lebron James and his return, what did you expect OP? Of course the ratings are higher.

I am glad it was the worst as well, being a blowout and one sided after that 2013 loss.... Damn I needed that as a fan, was very much less stressful as the 7 game series (Game 6 especially). I am sure you did not mind the cake walk in 09 either did you? Those finals suck to watch in reality if you are not a fan but they are so easy on your heart at the end of games when you are not stressing. I remember the 7 games in 05, made me a fucking nervous wreck the last 3 games of the series.

2013 Finals, despite the epic loss for my team, is still one of the all-time great Finals.

A lot of jealous Laker fans in the LA market probably drove the ratings up... seriously.
