View Full Version : Cavs: Worst offense I've ever seen. Worse than any 90's basketball. Is it on James? Blatt?

midnightpulp

I have no idea what the fuck James/Blatt are trying to do here. For like the last 20 possessions, James has taken 7 seconds just to get the ball past half court, and then he spends another 5 seconds just lazily dribbling until he makes a decision, which is usually a bad jumper.

Yeah, I understand slowing the game to neutralize Golden State's speed, but not to this extent, especially when you're the inferior defensive team. And even if you slow the game down, you can at least MOVE on offense off the ball.

On a side note, JR Smith is the stupidest player in basketball.

It's probably the correct strategy, actually, Ethan Strauss(covers the Warriors closely) predicted they would play like this..slow-pace, ISO, less possessions to affect the variance in their favor to negate the severe talent and athleticism advantage for the Dubs..

Yes, but not all slow pace is created equal. You can slow the game down while also being somewhat offensively dynamic with off ball movement (Delly is capable of getting Curry into a track meet), less ball dominance, which always has an adverse affect on teammates.

Problem is:

- They don't have an offensive system..no hyperbole, they actually don't
- None of their bigs can create a shot
- Their only other creator is JR Smith
- Their bigs are both lane-cloggers, poor spacing

Dellavadova can occasionally make that floater, but he's extremely inconsistent..

They should probably move off the ball more, but there isn't much they can do against the #1 defense that has multiple LeBron defenders..

This isn't Kobe, where you can give it to Pau or Bynum or Odom to create, tbh..

LeGOAT isos truly are their best option though but the play definitely needs to start sooner. When he doesn't bring the ball up court they take like 2/3rd of the shot clock just to get it in his hands.

It's not like the Cavs have a choice. LeBron and Delly are grinding it out there with a bunch of scrubs. It's the Finals and results matter more than styles of play. JR Smith tried to lose the game for them and they still won because Curry was putrid from the field. Just putrid....

90's ball actually had ball movement and players who knew how to move without the ball :lol What you described is "Lebron ball". He does that shit every game holds the ball and waits for an eternity to make a decision. He did it with the Heat as well so it's no surprise that we're seeing a ton of it here. Cleveland is being let off the hook by an overrated dumb as fuck Western conference team that shoots any kind of shot that comes to mind early in the shot clock instead of trying to run an actual offense. They look a lot like the Rockets except with better defense.

Their only efficient and reliable play all playoffs has been LeBron running a mini-fastbreak and quickly going to the post, tbh..they have done it a few times in this series, too, but their offense has been ugly throughout the playoffs..

It was beginning to look scary once Love started to get going, but obviously that did not last..

The Cavaliers didn't run this offense in the second half of the season when Kyrie and Love were healthy and they were merking teams right and left. Those guys are hurt and in a situation like this LeBron is going to revert back to what he knows best. It is what it is.

I don't mind Lebron being the focal point in an ISO situation. It's really the only offensive choice the Cavs have. But taking 17 seconds just to make a decision is killing his offensive rhythm, as well as the team's. The Cavs can slow the game down and Lebron can still attack with purpose rather than just sitting there for 10 seconds dribbling in the same spot and then shooting a bad jumper.

Blame Blatt/James and also losing Irving. Blatt is a defensive coach and yes, defense won the game for the Cavs yesterday.

Blatt offensive system is very much a PG driven system. PnR rolls, Double Screens and High Low sets. Without Irving, Blatt really now has to rely on James to create offensively. Blatt basically has just given the rein to James offensively.

"riddle" my ass. Blatt is just doing what every one did in the isolation days (Williams dumps it into Webber and veers away to let him work)...again & again & again.........

Magic comes up the left side, Worthy posts up. "Get out." - Magic --- Worthy moves off to let Magic isolate & work.

That's what Blatt is doing. Found his horse, mounted him and will ride him to the bitter end, again, and again, again......

Bynum the "creator" ...LOL

Bynum as a black hole that never passed the ball, but he was easily capable of creating his own shot in the post..Laker fans, including most here, were claiming he was just as good or better than Dwight Howard because of his advanced post game, if you recall:lol..

I was thinking the same. Bynum could create his own offense about as well as any low post player I've seen. He had incredible low post scoring ability.

It never settled though into a career. It was terribly sporadic, terribly frustrating. He was perpetually afraid of the 3 second call once they targeted it.

No one said it did. His unfortunate knee injuries, and health in general were the issue, not his fear of the 3 second call.

It was a strong component of his ruination, Phil. His game was rushed, frenetic, everything he'd built, nurtured and polished was taken from him upon an edict from Stern in New York. Mentally he was compromised.

Nonsense. I've undressed Bryant and I've done it on this public forum. My conscience is clean.

Just that Bynum was compromised by the fresh & strict interpretation of the 3 second rule.

Huh? I have no issue with Lebron or Duncan being ahead of Kobe. I may make a case for rings needed to further validate Lebron but even without I can get why many think he is greater.

As for Harlem, Bynum was a beast on the block but he never could create for others he still sucked in the defense but I consider Pau and Odom creators on those teams Bynum was just a scorer and paint presence.

Only his off-court follies. On-court, he's never made a mistake in your twisted mind.

For what purpose did you feel the need to relay that information? It seems quite irrelevant to talk about why his career ended early.

BS. Off & on court as well. Many times, just last week for instance.

You know all this though, Splits. You do, you're no fool, nor troll. Why you act like this mystifies me. I do not understand it.

I think a creator creates for others but maybe it's just my view is different ...when healthy Bynum was very good on the block and usually kept the ball like a big man should ...shame he couldnt stay healthy.

Well in regards to the initial post at hand, I think the point was that no one on this Cavs roster now is really capable of creating for others, much less themselves. The only one who occasionally can create his own offense is JR. Most of the rest are pretty much reliant on getting their looks off of other scorers.

Regardless, I think we can all agree that it's pretty impressive what LeBron has been able to accomplish on this playoff run, with their complete domination of Atl, as well as nearly pulling off a 2-0 trip at Golden State to start the finals. If he somehow pulls this series off, one might be hard pressed to find a more impressive series accomplishment out of an individual player. So far, this finals series has lived up to the hype. Hope it continues.

I have no qualms with any legit praise James gets. I do think his supporters exaggerate his "feats of strength" But if he does win this series (even if GSW is a bit overrated) it would be as impressive as any run I saw by the star of a team. Your boy Dirk had the most impressive shooting finals run. HE had a few less than Dirk type games but when you add regular season to Playoff + Finals, I think dirk's shooting run was greater than any Bird season ...I thought curry had a chance to surpass Dirk/Bird but he needs a big game tonight and a Finals win.

Side note: On the same program i mentioned earlier Cowherd said Dirk's finals run with a bunch of "B level and below stars" was the most impressive of recent memory prior to James this year and I would agree. Even though Kidd is a no doubt HOF'er ...Dirk despite the Mavs being deep had the weakest (offensively) #2 of any title winner in recent memory unless James pulls this off. Great legacy stuff on the line in this series.

And it has been good stuff just mad I changed the TV when Cavs were up late in Game 2 ...lesson learned.

You make statements that have nothing to do with the OP. You just have your obligatory jabs and you do anything in your power to force fit them into whatever thread is active.

Example:

Atlanta gets Swept

You: Amy swept Tim's 5th, tee hee

So you get what you deserve when people refuse to "parse words" with you.
