View Full Version : Cavs: Does Lebron deserve FMVP even if they lose?

As it stands right now, nobody on the GSW clearly deserves to win.

OTOH, Lebron is clearly the best player on the floor.

Does he deserve to be the first player since West to win FMVP despite being on the losing team? If not, who deserves it?

If curry goes supernova even one it'll be his to lose. If iggy stays a starter maybe. But yeah I remember talking about this in the days before 6, when people thought Danny green had a chance.

Lebron is shooting 39% FG. Terrible. No player has jacked up and missed more shots in the Finals than Lebron.

Iguodala has been the most consistent player on the court

14.8 PPG
5.5 TRB

for comparison:

Kawhi's FMVP
17.8 PPG
6.4 TRB
2.0 AST
61%
58% from 3
Kawhi also had twice the steals rate and block rate, better ft%, but worse on turnovers/game

He was going to, if we finished the job.

I still can't believe we didn't.

And to OP, yes, LeBron deserves it if he restores himself back to Game 1-3 status for the next few games, if not, Iguodala deserves it unless Curry suddenly starts making a difference on the court.

The FMVP goes to the most important player on the winning team. Shaq had a good series against Detroit in 2004, better than any Piston, but they lost, so he didn't deserve FMVP.

I agree. I mean, how can you acknowledge their value when they lose? At this time Iggy deserves it more than anyone else. He's by far the most valuable player for the Warriors.

If the Cavs win the mvp should be Kevin Love tbh. He has a monstrous impact on the team, and his absence has been absolutely pivotal imo

Probably, but if Steph shows up in even one of the next games, he will win in on the popular vote alone.

Same thing probably could have been said last year.

Kawhi had a solid streak of three games at the end though. GSW has yet have a person of that impact so far.

That said, Kawhi was pretty bad the first two games.

Kirbs Kryant 2008 and 2010.
Of course he had an All Star frontline to rebound his chucks.
Plus when Kirbs chucked, missed, and got bailed out by rigged reffin that did not go in the stats as a shot attempt.

People bring up LeBrons shooting percentage but don't bring up the rest like his rebounds and assists and the fact he is carrying a 7 man rotation of rejects,,,,last time Kobrick tried to carry a team of rejects like smush parker, odom, mihm, ect,,,,they missed the playoffs.

The only reason that anyone is considering giving it to a player on the losing team is because that player is Lebron.

Imagine if this was Cleveland against OKC with Cleveland up 3-2. If Westbrook had 36.6, 12.4, 8.8 (on less than 40% shooting) and was losing, and Lebron had 36.2, 5.0., 5.8 (on almost 45% shooting; Curry's numbers through 5 games), everyone would be talking about Westbrook having numbers that look really good, but there would be no doubt that if Cleveland closed it out, Lebron would be Finals MVP.

It's only ever happened once and you can tell from the NBA's body of work that it was a mistake that one time. Finals MVP is no longer who was the best player in the finals but has been REDEFINED into who was the best player for the winning team.

But obviously Lebron has been the best player in the series.
