It is about that time, should start hearing names that are playing on the Spurs summer league roster. Kyle Anderson will be the marquee player for the Spurs, probably gets the "Kawhi" treatment.

I'll miss the JayMychael Green Spurs Summer League and DLeague talk, he was my favorite Toro but he has played his way onto an NBA roster (the Griz), I am happy for him. He flashed more than Austin Daye or Fat Head ever did at that level. He just didn't fill a need on our roster. Not athletic enough to backup the kingslayer at the 3 and not what we need at the 4. I'll have to find a new favorite Summer/D League Spur.

Foot work can bail him out of a lot of situations if he's improved on that or anticipation of where his guy is going

Spurs will have to live with the fact that Anderson needs to play point.

Cojo is a serviceable guard, but he just doesn't have the IQ to setup the offense, he's tried, but he just can't see what's going on.

In fact, maybe a little tweaking of the lineups:

G: Anderson
SG: Green
SF: Leonard
PF: Aldridge
C: Duncan

2nd unit:

G: Parker
SG: Ginobili
SF: LJC (?) Caspri(?)

Only first rounders get guaranteed contracts according to the rookie scale. Second rounders don't count against the cap until they are signed.

I'm mildly surprised that Deshaun Thomas isn't included. I guess he's a fairly known commodity at this point. Still think that going back to Barcelona is the best option for him right now unless he gets traded.

You don't like Wayne Blackshear or Treveon Graham?

I know nothing about them. But I mean a guy whose rights they own. Denmon and Hanga are about it for guards, maybe Dangubic if you count him as a guard. Having SL guards that aren't already in the Spurs' pipeline means we're going to see another year of scrubs and sub-scrubs hogging the ball trying to show the world they can play. It was insufferable last time when only Anderson, Daye and Thomas were front-court players of note. But this is the first time many of us get to see LJC and LaLanne.

It's his unilateral decision. He's already said he was coming over (though that was in late 2014), so I think he'll be on the team regardless of what he does in the summer league.

Interesting...would be nice if he's a capable backup SF at this point. Saves us having to go out and find someone for the minimum. I guess they'd try KA at the 2, although him guarding SGs could be problematic.

Also saw that Nate Wolters will be playing with us...he showed some signs of promise in Philly, no?

It is a little weird though that the spurs still have/allow Hanga to come train for a week or two every summer at the practice facility and yet never play in the summer league.

Is this some kind of long term play to eventually use him as a scout/liaison for these developing euro countries like Hungary? Or is he still a faint possibility?

Maybe based on merit, but the Spurs have a number of open roster spots and no money allocated to fill them. Someone has to be the third PG if Cory moves on. They'll need another two-guard even if Manu comes back. Fifth or sixth big? I think at least two of these guys will get camp invites.

Ayres is 31st pick... that's pretty high for someone with his lack of skills. I can't believe he didn't improve in the 2 years he played for the Spurs.

Hope Lalanne has enough length to make an impact. Here's an interesting stat... Lalanne standing reach is 9'2.5" with 7'5" wingspan.... Splitter standing reach is LESS at 9'1" and wingspan of 7'1".

Leonard's reach is 8'11" and wingspan of 7'3". Greek Freak's wingspan is reported to be 7'3" to 7'4".

So there is no doubt that Lalanne has length. Let's see if Chip can make him into a 3 and D dude!

That's definitely what I want to see as well. This is where Slo Mo takes the next step. He has to become a contributing member to the rotation. There is no reason why he shouldn't as he looked promising when given minutes. This summer he should be filling the stat sheet flirting with triple doubles every game. 15 ppg 8 rpg 8 apg are the stats he should have. Obviously, every one will be focused on his on ball defense I'm hoping he improved there we'll see.

Jarrell Eddie had a good game today, tbh. 4 threes... Spurs should give him a shot he can be better if not as good as Beli

Spurs should sign him up! That's of course if ... if he can play defense.

Baynes was undrafted Ayres was like the 60th pick. They were able to contribute and Lalanne should be able to as well.

I never get the point of these wise ass about late picks not worth considering. That's the entire fun of Summer League!! Trying to find a diamond in the rough.

What's the point of jumping into this thread and remarking, 'anybody playing is not worth looking at'? That's what this thread is for, to examine players!!!

Besides... Baynes wasn't drafted. Neal wasn't drafted. Manu was drafted 56th. Danny Green was picked 46 and was waived by several teams.

This is the Spurs folks... picking up discards like this!

If Eddie can find his shooting form from early last season before injury, he might be a poor man's Marco replacement.Eddie went 4-6 from the arc today. If he keeps that up, hopefully the Spurs actually get to play him before he signs with someone else.

[EDIT] Oops, I see someone already mentioned it.

They think they have the only legitimate opinion about talent. And unfortunately, they align with the people of power.

Think of it in real life terms. If you go to the doctor with a problem, he tells you what your problem is. Your family tells you to take his advice. You yourself may have doubts, but you really should defer. You could do your own research influenced analysis, and develop your own course of action. But you probably aren't that wise, especially if you couldn't relay enough information for a proper diagnosis, from your doctor, in the first place. And even if you did, that course may actually be criminal for you to follow.

Better just to accept common practice, most of what you'll find in the dumpster is trash. You should realize that what you've found in the dumpster, is likely trash. If you found something of value, it probably won't stand up to the pretty designer alternative. It will probably contaminate the designer alternative, so shun. If somehow your trash makes it to the golden cirlce, it will still not compute. It has no recognition. It must have come from the dumpster. Gold doesn't come from the dumpster, talent doesn't exist in the kiddie pool. "Good day sir," at best. "Security, remove this drunk," most likely. Tweet encouragement to the player. If you get crap for hope, imagine what he deals with.

Caddy Lalanne speaks with a level of maturity higher than the typical rookie. I guess that's because he spent 4 years in college like Duncan.

Spurs took a gamble with Aron Baynes at 26 years old, I wouldn't be surprised if they gamble on Lalanne at 23.

He's a good project, length and confidence to take the 3 (without much success though).

Ezeli is bigger and has more bulk, a true center.

Lalanne's standing reach is 2.5" higher than Ezeli, but curiously he's an inch shorter.

I just don't see them as the same kink of player though. Unfortunate, Spurs need more bulk inside.

Happy to see Wayne Blackshear on the roster. Big Lville fan so nice to see him get a chance. With that said not sure how much I expect from him. He is a streaky shooter, he does have legit nba size though at the two though with a big wingspan and is a decent defender because of his wingspan and strength. His biggest obstacle to overcome will be shooting consistency. Hoping he can find his shot though, if he can would be a nice fill in for the absence of Marco.

UNLV is tough to beat as the two gyms they use are right next to each other with concessions and merch in the hall in between them. Free parking or good bus/cab access and all the rest to do in Vegas.

Austin would kind of suck for several reasons.

Why do you think Austin would suck? Main reason I could think of is obviously the horrible traffic, but Austin is a really young hip city though with alot of things to do, I would think that would be a positive. Being in close proximity to three major cities in the form of Dallas, SA, and Houston would help attendance and make it easy for people to get there I would think.
