With Ellis leaving and half the roster being free agents, plus a Dirk that looks very much in decline, they don't look like a contender. Green is young enough that up and coming teams would pay him. And he's got a title. The biggest priority is getting paid.

Closing in on Kawhi. While the Spurs await official word that Tim Duncan and Manu Ginobili are coming back, their first order of business will be swift and simple: Re-signing defensive player of the year Kawhi Leonard to a five-year max deal, league sources told CBSSports.com.

Don't expect any big recruitment meetings, songs or dances when the negotiating floodgates open just after midnight ET Wednesday -- just a simple, quietly executed agreement that will keep Leonard in San Antonio well into his prime. The max deal is likely to have an early-termination option after the fourth season, sources said.

Leonard, who turns 24 on Monday, waited a year to get his commitment from the Spurs so the team would have payroll flexibility. He isn't inclined to do a shorter deal and take advantage of the rising cap next summer; there's injury risk involved, and Leonard will still be young enough to reap the benefits of the higher cap when he hits the market again in 2019.

With Leonard in the fold, the Spurs will immediately focus their attention on unrestricted free agent LaMarcus Aldridge, and there's a legitimate chance he ends up joining the five-time champions, said a person familiar with the situation. The expectation is that Duncan will be back for his 19th season, and that Ginobili will return at a deeply discounted rate, sources said. Ginobili will announce his intentions in a column he will write for an Argentine newspaper.

Supposedly there was a meeting or hangout between Chandler Parsons, DeAndre Jordan and Wesley Matthews recently. Matthews would actually be a decent option for them since they can lowball him cause of his Achilles injury and then get another cheap guard.

He could be a decent option. He has his flaws, but he's an athletic center with a long reach and good on defense. He's still a bit of a project since all what he knows on offense is dunking, but the Spurs could be a team to turn him around. Really young and can use a lot better guidance than Charlotte. And they could probably get him on a $3-4 million deal per year.

There is uncertainty about whether or not Tim Duncan (http://www.cbssports.com/nba/players/playerpage/6552/tim-duncan) and Manu Ginobili (http://www.cbssports.com/nba/players/playerpage/139066/manu-ginobili) will play another year, though, so it's hard to project how all of this will play out.
San Antonio's season ended extremely early, given how great this group is. There's no telling how similar next year's team will be, but Green definitely isn't the only one hoping that most of the Spurs stick together.

If Green leaves outright will the Spurs still need to unload Tiago to get Aldridge?

Assuming cap is $61.7, Aldridge + Parker + Diaw + Kawhi (cap hold ... QO is lower) + Mills + Anderson = $51.817. Splitter at $8.5 brings that up to $60.317. That's seven guys and assuming Duncan comes back, would need five minimum cap holds ($525k or so apiece) bringing that total close to $63 million. That would require Duncan to sign for around $4mm. A cap being $2mm higher would give another $1.5mm of room for Duncan. CoJo QO would need to be rescinded

They would still have room exception for Manu or someone else, and retain Splitter for a trade (Boston / Milwaukee) where they may be able to extract premium value after FA as opposed to fire sale price now.

Anyway, the ship is far from having left port on Danny. He'd be stupid NOT to take calls from other teams.
