View Full Version : Lakers: Kobe To D'Angelo Russell: “Ask why -- why did things happen?”

This is why the media hates Kobe because he proves time and time again why he's smarter than them by literally being the smartest guy in the room. :toast
Two days after the NBA draft, during which the Los Angeles Lakers (https://espn.go.com/nba/team/_/name/lal/los-angeles-lakers) selected three players, Kobe Bryant (http://espn.go.com/nba/player/_/id/110/kobe-bryant) said he has one thing he wants them to do.
“Ask why -- why did things happen?” Bryant said Saturday night at the BET Experience held at the Nokia Theater in Los Angeles during a sit-down interview with ESPN's Jemele Hill.
“I think players nowadays have become conditioned to do x, y and z. So you have coaches at the high-school level, college level, then the professional level, they tell you, ‘Do this, do that, do this, do that,’ as opposed to teaching players what questions to ask.
“So when you’re watching the game or playing the game, and he runs a pick-and-roll and all of the sudden the man is open in the corner and he hits the man in the corner and he knocks down a shot, you don’t want to just have that thing happen on accident.
You want to know why that happened.
“So you want to be able to read defensive packages and say, ‘OK, when I come off the screen-and-roll, the big did this, the weak side did that, therefore that’s open. And if I come here, now they make an adjustment; now that’s not open and that’s why that’s open, but now that’s not open and that means this one is open.’ It’s to get them thinking why things happen. I think that’s the most important thing for young players to understand."

Great decision maker his entire career. Why? Why did he made the most bricks in the history of the league? Why is he the only player to shoot 37.3% from the field while scoring more than 20ppg in the last 60 years? Why do you shoot tripled team when two of your teammates are wide opened?

Weak argument considering Duncan already had a similar experience with the '02 Spurs when he had to play with a washed up Robinson and Steve Smith, rookie Parker, offensively challenged Bowen. That was the spurs starting line up that year and they still won 58 games.

Right and my point is Duncan in his prime would have won 50 plus wins with those guys. Its not Kobe's fault he needs an all-star team to win over 50 games not everybody can win 50 games in this league with rosters that are not stacked.
Like asking "why did all these Lakers fans feel inspired to share their feeble thoughts after..oh..2008 or so?"
Answer: Pau Gasol

How? how would Tammy have won?.....How would we ever know of such a scenario with Tammy when his entire career he's played with 2-3 Allstars and some of the greatest defensive players ever....
Your answer is?

From '01-04 Duncan had zero all-star teammates. He was the only spur to go to an all-star game during that time period. '01-'02 spurs won 58 games, '02-'03 spurs won 60 games and the championship, '03-'04 spurs won 58 games. For those 3 years Duncan's team on average won 58.6 games and he managed to win a title during that stretch. Kobe had a similar stretch from '04-'07 with the Lakers of having zero all-star teammates and lets look at their record. '04-'05 Lakers win 33 games and a lottery appearance, '05-'06 Lakers win 45 games, '06-'07 Lakers win 42 games. During that 3 year stretch Kobe's team won 40 games on average and missed the playoffs along with 2 first round exits. It's clear Duncan is the superior player because he was able to do a lot more with zero all-stars during his 3 year period versus Kobe's 3 year period without all-star teammates.

Again you lack reading comprehension. List a teammate that Duncan played with during '01-'04 that made it to the all-star game? On top of that Odom's stats from '04-'07 or better than Manu,Parker, and Robinson's stats from '01-'04. It shows Kobe had more help than Duncan during his 3 year stretch and still failed miserably.

Yeah... but he couldn't defend his title playing with a bunch of HOF'ers. Kobe dragged pussy Pau and a bunch of losers to the finals 3 straight years.

Fear. Kobe, against his better judgment acquiesced to Kupchak's plea that Kobe come in at the last and Dutch uncle Howard into it. Kobe, in street clothes, a smidge above how Duncan showed up in Federal Court came in to Staples on his day off, sat the fool down and instead of the Dutch uncle read Howard a riot act like Magic read Jabbar, Worthy, Scott, Jerry West, twixt Junes of '84-'85. Sure, West kept drivin' around LA County during the 6 games just a little over 30 years ago but, the other named fellows grabbed the jacks & timbers that Magic set aside and the whole kit and caboodle started back down. Howard? Excused himself to use the lavatory, then slipped out the side door & onto the arcades at Venice Beach. Ran into an old man on vacation from Phoenix trying to beat the Space Invaders Game.

Kobe Bryant challenges Dwight Howard in meeting

When Los Angeles Lakers star Kobe Bryant (http://sports.yahoo.com/nba/players/3118) spoke to Dwight Howard (http://sports.yahoo.com/nba/players/3818) on Tuesday, his words to the free-agent center resounded an unmistakable and unflinching message: Let me teach you how to be a champion.

"You need to learn how it's done first, and I can teach you here," Bryant told Howard during the Lakers' presentation (http://sports.yahoo.com/news/nba--dwight-howard-finally-gets-his-choice-as-the-nba-waits-082430862.html), witnesses in the room described to Yahoo! Sports.Bryant didn't come to Howard's recruitment meeting in Beverly Hills to appease him, but to challenge Howard to stay and embrace the burden of the franchise's culture and embrace Bryant's demanding disposition. :lol
Bryant invoked Michael Jordan's hard-driving ways as his blueprint, and how it pushed theChicago Bulls (http://sports.yahoo.com/nba/teams/chi) to six titles.
Bryant, a five-time NBA champion, insisted he wouldn't retreat in pushing Howard every day, that as much as the Lakers needed Howard, Howard needed Bryant and the Lakers, too.
"You have to learn how it's done," Bryant told Howard, witnesses described. "I know how to do it and I've learned from the best – players who have won multiple times over and over."
"Instead of trying to do things your way, just listen and learn and tweak it, so it fits you," Bryant told him.
Howard has retreated to Colorado for a few days, surrounded by representatives, to make a decision on his future. The Lakers are fighting frontrunner Houston, Dallas, Atlanta and Golden State to sign him.
At times in the 2012-13 season, Bryant and Howard clashed over decidedly different day-to-day approaches to the game. Away from the floor, Howard's lighthearted tomfoolery clashed with Bryant's relentlessly serious-minded way.
Bryant is rehabilitating a torn Achilles, but is expected to be back early in the Lakers season. Before the Lakers ever traded for Howard a year ago, each player had reservations about playing together, about how they would blend. As the Lakers struggled, the construction of a relationship was clearly strained, but there were times when they found common ground.
If this was goodbye between them on Tuesday, Bryant had gone out the way he had come into a relationship with Howard: telling him his basketball truths, his beliefs, his way.
"You have to learn how it's done," Bryant told Dwight Howard on the way out of the Lakers, or maybe the way back into them.
Only now, Dwight Howard gets the final word.
:lol
I know why he ass rapes the Spurs
Again with this. Only one team has made Kobe cry, then he congratulated them for it.

GD rights. "the burden" --- says it all. There is no joy in a title climb. Just work and more work, and then still more work. It never ends. There is no joy in winning it. Just joy in not losing it.
