I had almost forgotten about this thing. 11 E / 10 C seems kind of late, but I'm glad it is, or I would've missed it.

Hooray! Basketball to watch (that isn't WNBA)!

Should be a lot of fun... I'll be taping the game since I'll be at work during it's airing...

Wish some more youngsters like Iguodala and Livingston were included, though.

NBA Players Hurricane Relief Game takes place in Houston Sunday
Kenny Smith Hosts Benefit Game

Sept. 7, 2005 -- TNT basketball analyst and former two-time NBA champion with the Houston Rockets Kenny Smith will host the NBA Players Hurricane Relief Game, to help aid the victims of Hurricane Katrina. The game will be held Sunday, September 11th at 6 p.m. ET (5 p.m. CT) from the Toyota Center in Houston, Texas, and will be televised on TNT at 11 p.m. (10 p.m. CT). Players participating in the game will donate over $1 million to hurricane victims. Throughout the telecast public service announcements will be made encouraging fans to support the relief efforts through donations to the Red Cross via redcross.org, or by calling the Red Cross help line at 1-800-HELP-NOW.
( See video of Kenny Smith calling on NBA stars for assistance ).

“The game is a show of our support and solidarity for those affected by this natural disaster,” said Kenny Smith. “As professional athletes we’ve been very privileged. These are the types of communities where we come from and this is one way we can help take care of our own.”
Prior to the game on Sunday, players will distribute truckloads of their donated goods and supplies to shelters throughout the Houston area. Items will include food, clothing, water, toiletries and other basic necessities.

TNT’s broadcast team will include analysts Kenny Smith and Charles Barkley, host/play-by-play Ernie Johnson and sideline reporter Craig Sager. Tickets are available for purchase, with all proceeds being donated to charity, for $300 (includes floor seats and player meet/greet) $25, $15 and $10 (see attached ticket information). Special ticket arrangements will be made for Hurricane Katrina victims.

Kenny said they had to do some "trades". I guess they didn't have an equal amount of players for each team and maybe something with positions.

And they wanted flashy players who would get them money and attention.

so none of the spurs would've qualified.

It might.

Kenny Smith said he called only the people in his "phonebook."

Whether any Spur was listed in the book is another thing.

The best part of the game was Charles Barkley and Kenny Smith. It was nice to see the guys out there, but it was so All-Starish that I never really got into the game. But Charles and Kenny were funny as hell.

I couldn't watch this game... I tried... but , well.. it sucked too much.
I agree with Gummi - the best part was Sir Charles and Kenny Smith.:tu I've missed them these last few months.

But the "game" wasn't really a game.. I couldn't get behind it at all....they were too rusty to pull off the flashy snazzy moves they were attempting. There was zero to little defense attempted outside the circle (and i mean the tiny littel cirle that the ball goes in :lol).. it was just ... boring.
It was like watching a really bad tennis match. I think the camera man must've got dizzt rom all the back and forth back and forth.

After a few viewing tries I just gave up, called the RedCross so they'd get the donation during viewing time, and switched over to a Law&Order SVU rerun.

I agree with the other guy about the wrong time.

Maybe TNT did a regional thing or something but i was watching Football when i remembered and then quick switched it over to TNT. It was 10 central something then. I saw the last couple minutes of the game and that was it. Very disgusted.

Maybe the Gov or the Mayor of NO moonlights as the progrram director for TNT?
