Kool, it's all show, egged on by LMA's agent. He's locked into San Antonio. He's a gone goose. And he would not have been comfortable in LA. Christ, he ain't been comfortable for a decade in Portland. He'll finally be home and among an homogeneous group who will nurture him and extract his bounty. Kool & Buddy - this is exactly what I have been saying. This is a massive off season for LA. Right now they are hanging in the balance. It's too early to dig their FA grave, but Pau leaving money on the table followed by Dwight set the table. People are wondering if the days of LA being LA are over.
If they swing and miss this FA, it will be shocking and a sign that things have surely changed. Like that tweet said, it's all about shutting down the notion that LA is no longer the FA it once was.

You're full of beans, Deeps. This FA session is all about symbolism. There is scant substance TRULY available. Love is locked in Cleveland. James is locked in Cleveland. Gasol is locked in Memphis. Jordan is fool's gold. LMA is as unmitigated disaster waiting to happen anywhere but San Antonio. There is nothing for us to swing at. Silver will make LMA & Jordan play the free agency game, but, there will be no heart in it.

Time Warner: Hey Jimbo... I know you guys suck right now... but do you think you can keep Kobe around?
Jimbo: Let me get back to you on that.
Jimbo: Hey Kobe... here's a 48 million dollar check for the next two years... just show up and play a game or two... make a tweet here and there.
Kobe: Sure!
Jimbo: Hey Time Warner... what's my cut for keeping Kobe around?
Time Warner: Three billion... is that ok?
Jimbo: Hey Jeannie... we just got gifted 3 billion and we don't have to share any with the rest of the league.
Jeannie: Good boy.:toast

The point is - Kobe's deal goes directly against the narrative Thread is pitching. He's hedging because of what missing out means. It's why the OP has that in the tweet and what many others have discussed.
Dispite what Thread is preaching, it doesn't jive with what the FO has done and is doing. They are going after FA, many of which "don't deserve" money. It's not a dog and pony show. If they miss, it's not because they didn't want it - its because things have changed.
The damn thing about it is, it will work out better too. It will force LA to adjust to the new world. It will also prevent them from making the mistake of going after a max guy now that isn't worth it to them.

due to the new cba every player thinks he is worth it. Lakers are going to throw crazy cash at anyone who is somewhat respectable because it's a players market. (This is all opinion I might add). Especially with the cap space going up, it's going to be a blood bath. But I hear ya.

Not for us. San Antonio can get straightened out if Aldridge signs on. Transcends them immediately back to supremacy.
Us? We'll just have to keep sluggin' along with '10 drifting further out to sea.

Green would be a loss, definitely, but, Splitter is pedestrian. And you won't physically miss Manu. And by the playoffs he'll be forgotten except in a legendary fashion. He is a drag on your team.

LMA is going to be a faggot and sign with the Spurs...i would prefer Deandre even though he's a loser...we need a defensive presence....if we cant DA then a front court of Greg Monroe and Ed Davis would actually be very good..infact...Greg Monroe at Center and Ed Davis at PF is probably a lethal defensive combination with all of our youth and speed....if we Land Greg Monroe it will offset you guys landing LMA who's only an offensive player.....
Do it mitch....if you cant get DA then Monroe and resign Ed Davis....

Im with El and Amb on this. Aldridge will help bolster the front-court but at what cost? And if he signs a 1 + 1 deal as Cully says it will be with the thoughts of getting a huge increase down the line. I think it is great that the Spurs are now willing to spend as the Duncan window closes but spending on the right pieces is key and I am not sure I Trust Aldridge as a franchise pillar.
I guess what I am saying if Aldridge is not ready to lead the Blazers to a title then you are left with Duncan having to do it again maybe Aldridge will be enough support to do so but I doubt it. I think the 2014 Finals will have the same effect the 2010 had on the key lakers ...they wont win again with this core and I have been the longstanding advocate of dont count out dem Spurs. I think the "nut" was busted in a way that a shot of Aldridge level viagra wont be enough to get it and keep it up especially if they lose the pieces El points to.

With the way things are going, I think it's a lock Lebron James will sign with the Lakers. They will then add Marc Gasol, and LMA, both of which will sign for the minimum because, you know, it's LA, and Kobe.
And yeah, Monroe and Davis. Even though Monroe had below average defensive player through his career so far, I expect him to magically turn into Bill Russell 2.0 because, you know, he's playing on the Lakers. Same with Ed Davis. We saw improvement because Davis played with the Lakers last year, he will improve even more, because he's playing on the Lakers.
That will be a wrap for the Lakers, and they will win the next 5 championships, easy.

I am truly baffled how we can have conversations and you just don't get it or refuse to acknowledge the real point. Blows my damn mind.
I get your point but I just disagree with it. Let me ask you this? If Spurs land LMA does that mean the Spurs are now a FA destination? What if Mavs sign Deandre? After missing out on all their other targets? I just dont think one off-season changes the barometer one way or another. IF we missed out on Pau and Dwight because times are changing ... (Which if you are truly honest how can you factor Pau when the reasons he left had nothing to do with the Lakers as a draw but more to do with the shitty way we treated him) is it because Kobe is the cancer that many on here say or could his contract act as a deterrent since teams cant "buddy up"? Arent those factors to consider? Either way my point is you cant make the conclusions you are trying to make when you factor those things in because circumstances are different. If the Lakers had a Pop level coach, and as much cap space as say Dallas and a player was down between us and Dallas and chose Dallas ... then I would be concerned ...especially if FO turmoil was stated as the reason a FA chose another destination. But with the current climate and composition of the team Dwight and Pau are poor examples. Even Melo was never a good example because he was about the money not winning or anything else and if he wanted to win right away why would he choose us? If someone is offered the same exact money and similar situations and choose to go somewhere else that is when your conclusions would make sense. Dwight chose to play with Harden Melo chose the max deal/years. Pau was dicked around so much so that he told his brother not to consider us. A
All i am saying is this off season means little for any team except maybe the Knicks tbh. They have the ringmaster, ac oach who carries respect and a a supposed star for player to join near his prime. if they swing and miss you have to question them. Most other situations you need to judge over time and the past two seasons are not enough for me. Next year's FA when Kobe's millions come off the books is where I will judge the FO, not this one.

As long as Tim is there, it might work out. But Tim is only going to be there for another season or two, and I think LMA is not the guy you want to have as your centerpiece going forward, especially if you're losing the young talent you should surround him with. That said, realistically speaking, the Spurs don't have many options, tbh...

LMA is 30 and we are offering him 20 mil a year? Idk how i feel
about that, in all honesty is rather give that money to Jordan.
Thank you Cully don't buy DPGs bullshit I don't think this year of free agency will change shit ...not a true difference maker available and all the teams with space enough to chase more than one fish pretty much suck. And I hope Aldridge stalls Kiwis development as a star ...he worries me more than Aldridge.

Went to Germany, came back and went again on an impulse.
Good times, but I've had enough of being away from home for now.
