View Full Version : Leonard's sacrifice to a wait is what made this LA trade possible.

Gotta hand it to Kawhi..

Making financial sacrifices at the age of 22..

While some assholes are making crazy money whilst being a shitty player and shitty ballhog teammate.

TD, Kawhi, Manu have sacrificed more than any other spurs in the last 15 years...Amazing. Real Legends.

No way PATFO low ball him on a team building pitch. They are scared shitless he'll bolt, not saying he would but they would be fucked and they (and he) know it. And Kawhi sure as hell ain't offering a discount up of his own accord.

Can you or op state what this thread is about?

Like, where did kawhi sacrifice? This is his first non rookie contract right?

I will readily admit Duncan is a better teammate than Parker. But really This is kool aid level logic...

"Tony Parker is shotty for getting paid market rate for a starting pg " = "Jim Dugan left $25 mill on the table this Kobe> Dugan"

Anyway, as a player fan, contracts aren't my thing. You get what the market says your worth. Kawhi about to get his. It ain't sacrifice is cba. Gross up ya guys.

OP has a great point (for once). Yes, he stood to make a little extra by waiting but also took huge injury risk (don't forget he had been somewhat injury prone). While you have crybabies like Butler in Chicago and others elsewhere, we're lucky to have gotten his buy-in. But it does start from Tim, Manu and Tony having taken less at points in their careers. Yes, Tony is overpaid now but his past contract was well under market.

TBH...After Leonard' agent words last offseason I thought the same, or at least that he would sign a short term offer to hit the market in two years like Buttler wants.

If Kawhi signs a short-term offer next weeks forcing the Spurs to match the offer before they signing Aldridge could be disastrous for the franchise.

Good to know that Kawhi is the type of Spurs' player willing to make sacrifices for the team and wait to lure a big-name free agent, even when that could impact negatively his own status on the team.

Team-first and a great kid.

Other players in his situation signed a QO or they want to sign a short offer to hit the market in 2017.

Other players who want to be the centerpiece of the team wouldn't allow the franchise to sign a high profile free agent.

God thanks for Kawhi.

By holding off contract negotiations last year for a maximum contract this year..? Hmmn

Well, he's deserving, no brainer despite lackluster 1st round vs Clippers playoff performance because of his potential, but come on...

Harlem, you know basketball, where did kawhi "sacrifice" it looks like he just played his contract. Of course he's massively underpaid, like green and Duncan. This is a weird team. But op is fundamentally wrong to say Leonard chose anything. He chose to keep his mouth shut about wanting the extension. Anyway, good for kawhi. Bad for op and Harlem to stoop to this level of trolling.....

He could have made a stink about it and threatened to sign elsewhere, thus forcing the Spurs hand. Instead, he said he talked to the Spurs and they made it clear what they wanted to do and he was on board with it.

That's why you don't "guarantee" things so early, and claim absolute certainty because you have a "source." But clearly, you have problems honoring the claims and guarantees you make.

If you go back to last year, many of us, myself included wanted glad Kawhi waited b/c it put the Spurs in a spot to nab Gasol or LMA this offseason. Just might happen, but I was never in doubt he was going to get the Max. It was just all about the timing of things.
