Seems like a pretty good day to go read that fantastic Henry Abbott article from last year:
http://espn.go.com/espn/feature/story/_/id/11717596/is-kobe-bryant-reason-los-angeles-lakers-downfall
A taste...
IF ONE COMMON denominator has persisted throughout Bryant's tenure with the Lakers, it is this: The blame lands elsewhere, and usually with teammates. O'Neal -- at times a mentor to Bryant, at other times freestyle-rapping to a packed club in Manhattan, "Yo, Kobe, tell me how my ass taste" -- is one in a long line of Bryant's teammates who've struggled to stick to a single script in describing the singular man. Bynum, Gasol and Howard have each been at turns coy, reticent, warm or biting. And, in turn, each has taken massive doses of blame in the media without Bryant meaningfully coming to their rescue.
"I've had a lot of clients in the last five years, good players, who didn't want to play with Kobe," says an agent who has had numerous NBA stars. "They see that his teammates become the chronic public whipping boys. Anyone who could possibly challenge Kobe for the spotlight ends up becoming a pincushion for the media. Even Shaq."
Sometimes the words come straight from Bryant's mouth, like when Bryant told Jim Gray in 2003 that O'Neal -- a perennial MVP candidate and repeat champion -- was "fat and out of shape" and intimated that Shaq threatened to play defense only when the offense suited him. More often, Bryant sidekicks have been assailed by stories attributed to "sources" on the team. Bryant-as-truth-teller is how it's typically framed, but few around the NBA see it that way. More common is the assessment that he undermines anyone who threatens his supremacy. One Lakers insider remembers a time in 2012 when Bynum -- about a year after declaring that the Lakers had on-court "trust issues" -- was due for a contract extension: "Andrew's question in contract talks was: 'How are you going to rein in Kobe?' We couldn't give direct answers. My immediate thought was, Well, he doesn't want to play with Kobe if we can't answer that question."
"I just never felt like the Lakers put as much effort into the building-the-team part of it," says an agent who once had a free agent decline a Lakers offer. "I saw some things in the players' parking lot. Conversations between Bynum and his people and some people with the Lakers. It got pretty rough and heated."
"It's horrendous. It's evil. It's a hard drug to quit when you're winning," says a front office executive from a rival team who knows everyone involved well. "Kobe has cost the Lakers dearly in human capital. Kobe has hurt a lot of people. In some cases jeopardized careers."

It does no good to sign players like LMA & Howard, and Jordan. It's money thrown away. When you're done signing them, you still can't get there. Makes no gd sense. Why they went there today is our shame, my shame. And I'll shoulder it. I got no other choice.

“Most guys don’t want to play with Kobe. He gets in this thing where he doesn’t pass and then overpasses and then tries to get triple doubles every night…that’s why I think it will be a while for the Lakers to get good because they’ve got no stars. I would be surprised if Love goes there.”
- Jared Dudley
Not that its true but The reality is that any scrub nigga that don't want to play with Kobe is a loser....5 rings bitch..that's it..these lil niggas can spout about whatever but if they're ringless they're meaningless....it further illustrates they don't know how to market themselves to make money...totally clueless....

It does no good to sign players like LMA & Howard, and Jordan. It's money thrown away. When you're done signing them, you still can't get there. Makes no gd sense. Why they went there today is our shame, my shame. And I'll shoulder it. I got no other choice.
Kobe the business man fighting for the rights of players takes all he can from LA and is praised for representing the working entertainers getting back at owners. "The evil white guys whupped us with the current CBA, but I showed the way with my 48.
And Lkfn still loves Kobe for what he gave them via the puppet master? A stupid trophy? 5 of them for Kobe.
Lkrfan sees no disconnect.

A brief history of Kobe Bryant helping people decide they don't want to play for the Lakers
LaMarcus Aldridge (http://www.sbnation.com/nba/players/21819/lamarcus-aldridge) came away from his meeting with the Los Angeles Lakers not wanting to play for the Lakers. (http://www.sbnation.com/nba/2015/7/1/8880343/lamarcus-aldridge-los-angeles-lakers-nba-free-agency) It was widely speculated he wanted to play for the league's marquee franchise throughout the free agency process, but he reportedly felt the meeting focused too much on "outside opportunities" -- COME TO L.A.!!!!!! WE HAVE MOVIES!!!!! -- and not enough on basketball.
He also reportedly "didn't gel" with Kobe Bryant (http://www.sbnation.com/nba/players/199627/kobe-bryant), who made a strange, strange, strange pitch:
A team official insists Aldridge's apparent decision to snub the Lakers isn't Bryant's fault (http://www.latimes.com/sports/lakers/lakersnow/la-sp-ln-lamarcus-aldridge-lakers-20150701-story.html). That seems likely. Other teams have better assets, and the Lakers (http://www.sbnation.com/nba/teams/los-angeles-lakers) tried to hide that behind glitter and glitz. Aldridge had good reasons not to choose the Lakers, Kobe regardless
.
But it seems Kobe didn't help. And if so, this is not the first time Bryant has been... well... less than tactful with a potential target or a teammate. In fact, at this point it seems to happen pretty much every year. (And let's not even go back to the whole Kobe vs. Shaq feud. That was rough.)

Chris isn't nearly the twat Kobe is. I think basically any team in the league would want Chris Paul, and any player would play along side him. It's just that he commands too much salary so it cripples your chances. You look at SA, you have a core group still good enough to get to the playoffs even in a bad season and none of them are close to being max players. They have young guys who are more than adequate and a rising star defender who's offense is only getting better. Now you have LMA as well.
SA is getting looks now they haven't gotten since Gervin played for them. It's wide open.

Meanwhile, Tim the master recruiter...
Sixth title: LaTim lands his successor
They were sitting around last week, at the first meeting in Los Angeles, and the Spurs were telling LaMarcus Aldridge about the young guys on their roster. This went on for a while until Tim Duncan interrupted.
“Hey,” he said, “I’m still here.”
Everyone laughed, including Aldridge. But maybe no statement meant more.
The Spurs did everything right. They carved out cap space with a precise strategy built on risk-reward, all while maintaining a championship-level roster. They targeted Aldridge early. And then they sold him their vision, closing with Gregg Popovich at his best, which is with a wine list nearby.
But the Spurs wouldn’t have landed LaMarcus without LaTim.
Give Aldridge this and more: He accepted the challenge of following one of the greatest players in league history. This won’t be easy.
The Warriors, the defending champs, will make sure of that. So will the Thunder, overlooked but still scary if healthy. And when the Spurs stutter early next season, trying to find their way even with the best starting lineup in franchise history, Aldridge will feel the pressure that comes with expectations.
Aldridge is well aware of what he has signed up for. He asked pointed basketball questions Wednesday, and followed up with phone calls to learn more. That’s a reason he and Popovich met again.
Aldridge likely realized something else. The same Popovich who was so charming in a posh Beverly Hills restaurant is the same Popovich who will someday scream as if the veins in his forehead are about to explode.
Aldridge should also be prepared for this on some January night: He will be called soft.
But Aldridge also knows he fits, and this is where the Spurs got lucky. The free agent they coveted happened to be a low-key, native Texan.
He would have made any team better, but this team plays to his talents and his temperament. He can win now, with most of the roster that held the trophy just 12 months ago, and he can win later.
Back to the talk about the young guys — Kawhi Leonard and Danny Green offer the possibility of lasting success.
That is why Saturday’s news felt as if the Spurs had won a sixth title. They hit the reset button. With only one losing season since 1989, the Spurs reached a remarkable and unparalleled position for a franchise that has been successful for so long. The downturn still remains so far in the future that there is no timeline for it.
But this doesn’t happen if Duncan, once a free agent himself, had chosen Orlando in 2000. This doesn’t happen if Duncan had refused to change his role years later, or opted for the couch instead of taekwondo, or wasn’t as effective at age 39.
This also doesn’t happen now, this month, if Duncan wanted his rightful salary.
Duncan instead remained who he has been. Not coincidentally, that’s the kind of person Aldridge said he grew up idolizing.
Popovich reportedly sold as much to Aldridge during their Saturday meal. From ESPN’s Marc Stein in a tweet that same day:
“Sources say pitch LaMarcus Aldridge got from Pop today about playing with Duncan AND taking over when Timmy’s gone resonated strongly.”
There are several layers to this, and one is basketball. Duncan makes everyone better, and he will make Aldridge better next season, too.
Duncan’s influence on Aldridge will also be felt in the locker room. Duncan can be quiet, and Aldridge took that further in Portland. Reports suggest he could be distant and insecure.
Duncan, always a nurturing leader, can fix that. His nature has always set a tone among teammates. He expects a certain professional behavior, and he gets it. Aldridge should be drawn to this.
And then there’s the byplay within the Spurs that Aldridge has observed from the other bench for nine years. Popovich coaches Duncan as he does everyone.
This is Aldridge’s new Rip City: When Popovich rips into Duncan, Aldridge will understand he’s not immune.
If Aldridge simply remains what he’s been, the Spurs should still celebrate. They can win a title with the Aldridge who played in Portland.
But if LaMarcus is to eventually become LaTim, someday centering this franchise as Duncan has, remember who is responsible.
He’s the same one who was responsible for the previous 18 years, and he’s still here.
