I don't know what to think.

One Hand
Him retiring makes sense because if he were coming back he'd announce it before the LMA meeting to add ammunition to what the Spurs can offer. By holding off until after LMA decides, he's doing the Spurs a favor to avoid being a downer during negotiations.

Other Hand
I would think they'd hold a press conference if he were retiring. And with Danny Green back and the possibility of LMA, he could fit into a comfortable niche with a bit of extra excitement added to the mix. Plus, he'd absolutely love doing pick-and-pops with LMA.

Logically, it seems more like he'll retire. But I'm hoping Manu plays one more year.

The fact that Manu hasn't made an announcement yet is extremely curious. It's highly possible that Ginobili has already decided on retirement, but that he's holding off on going public to help with the Aldridge recruitment.

Seems like Chinook nailed it when he suggested the FO would / should look at making LMA's deal a S&T. This would allow us to pay Manu a decent final salary instead of a min salary or the room exception. This would explain the quietness from both Manu and West. West would be hoping for the full MLE instead of the room exception.

Spurs will most likely renounce Ginobili's rights. Manu should just take Sept-Nov off and return December/January. I don't think he'll be able to play a full season of healthy basketball so the longer break should be good for him.

I don't think he'll be able to play a full season of healthy basketball so the longer break should be good for him. He was one of the healthiest players last year. He changed many things and had no hamstring problems or other stuff for the past two seasons. Still he is getting slower and his body cannot keep up with the things his mind still believes he can do. Thats why I am torn about him coming back. But if he does he should play the entire season about 15min per game and the occasional rest.

Exactly, reduce Manu's minutes, both to protect him for playoffs, and to ween the bench from being dependent on him. In short bursts he could actually be a monster. May see him less in crunch time these days, though.
