The 32-year-old spent part of last season with the Dallas Mavericks after being waived by the New York Knicks. Stoudemire averaged 10.8 points and 3.7 rebounds per game in 23 games with Dallas last season. The Clippers, Lakers, Suns and Mavericks are all said to be interested in Stoudemire.

However, Dallas came to an agreement with free agent center DeAndre Jordan on a four-year, $80 million deal on Friday. This likely means Stoudemire is done in Dallas and might sign elsewhere. If you recall last February, the Spurs were also linked to have an interest in Stoudemire when he was waived by the Knicks.

The Spurs may have to wait for Aldridge’s decision over the holiday weekend, but that isn’t stopping them from looking around the league.

Here we go again with the spurs name being floated out there. he will come here, but that's only if all the other teams turn him down.

Amare and West will provide more than LMA. Gives room for a decent backup SF. Let the Suns have him.

Honestly wouldn't be a bad addition for the vet minimum as a 4th/5th big. He is done contributing as a focal point but is nowhere near completely done imo. Stoudemire >>> Ayres and Bonner, tbh

Not bad as a backup. I don't give a crap about the past, I want to win now. Bring him and Ray Allen on, if he can still go.

PPG is not an indication of how well a big will do with the Spurs offensively, but rather FG % is. LMA is a career 48% FG%, and which is exactly what he had averaged over the last four years. he has averaged 67 games per season, and was injured at the end of last year.

Amare is two years older and was often injured the last four years, but is still more athletic than LMA. He could benefit from pop's minute management. He has averaged 50 games per year over the last four years, but is considered healthy now. His career FG% is 53%, while he averaged 54% over the last four years. He is far, and away more efficient than LMA, and Amare will have no problem playing center when asked

Add West to the mix, and I think you actually may have a better fit team wise than LMA. Splitter by the way is a 54% FG percentage, while averaging 54 games over the last two years.

West. Brings toughness Amare never had.

You can do a lot worse than Amar'e for the vet min. I'm not saying he'd be a game changer or anything, but I'd definitely take him over most of the available guys out there. He's still one of the best PnR bigs in the league, which is important considering Manu will likely be playing alongside him most of the time. The question will be whether he'd play for the minimum (doubt it), and whether he'd he fine with being the 4th big and playing pretty limited minutes. He played 16 mpg with Dallas last year, so I don't think that would be a problem.

People are going to have to lower their expectations a bit when it comes to the backup center. It's hard to find a quality big man for the MLE...much less for the vet min. Unless we get really lucky, our backup center isn't going to be too great :lol

Yup - he offers everything Amare does (he's maybe slightly less mobile) but has a great mindset. But I would be really happy w/ Amare too as the 4th big.

While we're at it, what's wrong with Jordan Hill? I've always thought he had unrealized potential.

Would he be the next Kevin Willis, Antoine Carr, Antionio McDyess, Naz Mohammed for us?
If we can get 10 and 5 from him in limited minutes, and he signs for the Minimum, then why not.
David Lee, Nene Hilario, Omri Casspi and those types are not coming through the door any time soon

Exactly. The Spurs always do better with tough old bigs desperate for a ring.

It's demanding prima donnas like LMA that disappoint. (Not that they ever come in the first place. :))

the spurs need someone who can defend as a backup center, TD and LMA already provided enough inside ofense. to me a great option would be Kendrick perkins but i doubt he would leave cleveland for what we can offer him.

If we don't get West, he's a good back-up plan at the 4 spot, but we still need a true center. It would be nice if we could land either Okafor, McGee or Dalembert.

Never understood why fans of a team think a guy like Amare with a reduced set of expectations on a solid team can't be a contributor. Look at Josh Smith, what he did in the playoffs. No one saw that coming when he came to the Rockets.

Veterans are important pieces, you need an enforcer, someone to put out there to put Klay Thompson on his ass.

We are ridiculously thin at center. As in. Timmy plays 25minutes, and then we put a poster up in the lane.
