Joseph leaves the San Antonio Spurs (http://espn.go.com/nba/team/_/name/sa/san-antonio-spurs), where he backed up Tony Parker (http://espn.go.com/nba/player/_/id/1015/tony-parker) for the first four years of his career.
The deal was made possible after the Spurs pulled a qualifying offer to Joseph Sunday, making him an unrestricted free agent in an effort to generate cap space to sign LaMarcus Aldridge (http://espn.go.com/nba/player/_/id/2983/lamarcus-aldridge).

You can call it what you want. Toronto overpaid for a career backup by making Joseph an offer he couldn't refuse. It's that simple.

And you overpaid Kiwi... a career role player that will never make the allstar or be a leading man. As far as defense goes... he's about as overrated as Marc Gasol when he won the media award. If he was so good he would have stopped Paul from bouncing your lilly asses out in the first round.

I'm not sure the Spurs would have paid him that much regardless of LMA.

But having LMA to pick up Joseph's slack is a decent bonus.

Combined salary of Cojo, Baynes, and Beli this season - $20.5 million.

Salary of LMA - $20 million.

Yeah, such a terrible deal the Spurs made. A starting big man who will play 35 minutes a night for three guys who were combining for about 20 on a good night.

But, those 3 actually won it.

LMA? He's been up there for a decade worried sick about everything. Now Pop & Duncan grant onto him the team. Got to hope it blows up like an M-80 right in your faces.

Actually the Spurs can take this hit. That's the point.

Put in perspective, if the Spurs were to lose Kawhi, it'd be like getting a leg and a nut chopped off.

Losing Joseph is like getting slugbugged in the arm. Just a bruise.

Meanwhile, the Spurs grew a second nba=fucked dick when they signed LMA

That's a gross oversimplification and you know it. Come on, man. You can craft a narrative that's a little more clever than "hurr durr rings".

It definitely could blow up in our faces. Or maybe LMA just won't be good enough to put us into another Finals. But you would have done the same thing, without pause. There was no hemming and hawing to be done here. You get a legit big man still in his prime, you pull the trigger.

The raptors let go of sixth man of the year Lou Williams signed by lakers for 21M/3 years for 30M/4 years of Cojo? Even Rodney Stuckey got 21m/3 years. Lin would probably not get that contract.

Really hope Cojo will live up to that contract.

Cojo is a talented kid... probably much better than D'Angelo Russell at this stage, but he was our 4th PG, tbh...

He's earned that fat paycheck, and I hope he does well in Toronto...

Yeah, it's not terrible for them to get a decent game manager, solid defending pg for that price.

But it wouldn't have been a good deal for the Spurs. This we know. Cully knows our should know.

In order for that to happen it'd have to be along the lines of 30-6-6...plus.

Joseph is overrated, decent system player who's gonna struggle to make ends meet playing a bigger role elsewhere (like Udrih when he left Spurs for bigger pay). Toronto is paying him twice the money he's worth imho.
