Bonner will probably be back as our 6th big...can't complain about that :lol Hopefully the FO still tries to go out and find a legitimate center. Even if he's not worth a damn, we really need someone who can at least play spot minutes there. Hell, they might just bring over Milutinov this year.

Was planning on saving some money by passing on league pass and watching spurs on online streams. That plan is out of the window.
My bro is a Knick fan living in ATL
I'm a Spurs fan living in NY
Buying NBA.com LP instead of the cable version is definitely the way to go
We split the cost n simply stream to our TVs via Xbox, DVD players etc

Cannot be understated. I hated him when he was mean-mugging Matt Bonner in NO, but stuff like this instantly makes me like the guy.
I agree, couldn't stand him when he was in NO because of how tough he played against us, but always one of the players you would love to have on your team.

Current roster projection stands as follows:
Parker, Mills
Green, Ginobili
Leonard, Anderson, LJC
Aldridge, West, LaLanne
Duncan, Diaw
Three spots left. One for a vet PG who can run an offense and who can stand sitting on the bench most nights. One for a wing who's looking to rebuild his career. And one for a young seven-footer who has long-term potential with the team.

And I'd be absolutely thrilled with Dorell Wright, but I highly highly doubt he comes here. He was already making $3+ million before this year. Don't see him taking half of that to play for the minimum.
I'm for Jimmer as 3rd pg. Cheap, young, and can shoot (except for last year). HE won't gripe for lack of playing time. Yes, he can't play D, but neither can Parker or Mills.

You think LaLanne has a good chance of making the roster?
And what about Bonner? His days are over?
GTFO... nobody walks away from $10M per year. This is like some kind of Twilight Zone thing. West is a pure badass. He is potentially the Mario Elie tough guy that this team has needed since, well since Mario Elie left.
Daaamn, this has to be the best offseason any team ever had.

with all these bigs that can hit the Mid Range Jumper + Danny / Mills / Kawhi / Manu / Boris from three that's some fucking awesome spacing right there... the other good news should be for Parker, less responsability offensively, lots of penetration and dish opportunities, space to operate inside etc..

I definitely think they want some young legs with their entire big-rotation being 30 or over by the start of the season. I think they should have two guys 25 or younger just to balance things out, but they could take an Okafor, seeing as the fifth big is likely to play a good number of minutes.

I just hope they go out and get a legitimate center. As great as this offseason has been, I still feel a little uneasy about the idea of Duncan being the only guy who can really go up against guys like Dwight/Marc/DJ/Asik/etc. Aldrich or Withey would be perfect for that.

Aldridge is going to be shooting way more 3s this season IMO, based on comments he has made about making it the next step in his evolution..
I think we'll see a lot less of Leonard being a spot-up shooter like he often was with Duncan/Splitter clogging the lane(his offense usually improved significantly with Diaw on the floor)..

If we want the Timmy that showed up against the Clippers (18pts/11reb) in the PO next year, there is no way you are going to run him into the ground like in like the brutal December of last year, he will be 40 by next April...This is a tremendous signing in that regard..My guess TD will be around 25/26 mins this upcoming campaign..

I think he's currently best suited for small-ball four. But I don't think the Spurs look at the third-string SF spot as one that LJC can't hold this season. He has the body for it, and he's possibly the third-best perimeter defender on the roster.

It is refreshing to see a player like West walk the talk. Said what he meant. Too often players talk about wanting to win at all costs and often we have seen them associated with coming here only to bail and sign for money elsewhere.
He really put his money where his mouth is. He's giving up at least $5 million after taxes.

Agree on Withey. HE was a volleyball player, so he can jump and block shots. I know this will get me pinked, but I actually would swing for the fences with Larry Sanders given how deep we are and his youth and talent on defense. No telling if he wants to play, but with all the veterans and the excitement around this team, maybe he turns his career around. He did say he wanted to play this year.

David West turning LeBum down for SA. When I read this news, I literally cried. It was almost like winning 5. Not just the fact that West came to SA, but the fact that he turned down THE NBA to come to SA... It means more than a title or player pickup, and more significant than signing LMA. Brooks and Green aren't taking the veteran's minimum, Green isn't Spurs material anyway and Milutinov isn't coming over.
I guess Withey could be an option, but he's rail thin. A wide body would be preferable, to bang with B. Lopez, Jefferson, Howard, Pekovic, Vucevic, Okafor and Cousins.

Hasn't Brooks taken the min two years in a row? What's one more? And no one on that list concerns me defensively. Not because they aren't good players. But they aren't likely threats in the post-season. We'll see on Green and Milutinov. I think the team will want to keep a couple of roster spots open or at least openable because they're bound to get a least one more ring-chaser.

This is true, but we do have Green and Kawhi and Duncan was pretty good last year too. I don't think LMA is a terrible defender, just not an elite one. And same goes for West. I do think we would do well to get another shot blocker, if possible. But Pop will coach this into a top 5 defense. An NBA defense can be better than the sum of its parts if they play as a team.

Yeah, but despite slumping down the stretch, he had a good season overall, clearly re established himself as a rotation player and in this financial climate, virtually none of them are taking the veteran's minimum. West was obviously an exception, but he's old, desperate for a chance at a championship and has made a lot of money.
They may not play on teams that will be threats in the post season, but still, it would be best to have a big body to throw at those types, for insurance more than anything. Plus, there's injuries and giving Duncan games off to consider. It doesn't make sense to only carry one C.

He's a smart veteran who you can count on to always give his 100% effort. He's not an elite defender by any means, but I'd say he's above average. He was a main piece on an Indiana team that consistently ranked at the top of the league defensively, even this past year when they were missing Paul George. He's a solid defensive rebounder for his position.
His mid-range game is definitely what excites me the most though. He shot over 50% from 16-23 feet last year...that's Dirk-esque (ignoring the difference in volume, of course). Saw someone else mention Manu/David West pick-n-pops...should be a really nice wrinkle to the offense.

$87 million or so isn't bad. But forgoing $12 million could be a swing of 10% of his net worth.
That said, he could look at this as an opportunity to (1) play with someone he's admired, (2) win a title, (3) save some mileage on his body and (4) better position himself for post-playing career.

When Indiana Pacers power forward David West opted out of the $12.6 million final season of the five-year contract he signed with the Indiana Pacers in 2011, he vowed that a chance to win an NBA title was more important than money. On Monday, West, 34, proved he is a man of his word, agreeing to play for the Spurs next season for the veteran minimum contract worth about $1.5 million.
“It’s amazing, but it’s true,” said Jeff Austin, West’s agent. “When David opted out of his contract, he told me this could perhaps be his last year, and he was not going to let money be the factor in determining where he plays. He was going to make his decision based on the best opportunity to win and the best fit for him.”
Numerous teams, including the Eastern Conference champion Cavaliers, inquired about West early in the free agency process. West bided his time, waiting to see what other players would do and where the free-agent dominoes would fall. When Spurs captain Tim Duncan announced he was returning for another season and LaMarcus Aldridge, Portland’s All-Star power forward, chose the Spurs over other numerous other teams that tried to recruit him, West knew he wanted to wear silver and black.

Wow...
West could be the first ever to turn down $11 mil
But in the better position to win a ring ahead of his former teammate in New Orleans, the barker(according to DeAndre Jordan), Chris Paul. :lol

“That’s why he waited,” Austin said. “He looked carefully at all the rosters, who was coming back, all that.”West’s commitment to winning over money is believed to be unprecedented in its scope. Veteran front office executives, including NBA vice president of basketball operations Kiki Vandeweghe, couldn’t recall another player choosing to give up as much money as West forfeited — $11.1 million — in the pursuit of a chance to win a championship.
“Never,” said Vandeweghe, who will replace Rod Thorn as the league’s President of Basketball Operations when Thorn retires in August. “Amazing.”
A two-time All-Star with career averages of 15.5 points and 7.2 rebounds per game, West’s selflessness might have opened the floodgates to the Spurs for other veterans looking for what they believe to be their best chance to win a championship.
West’s addition covers one of the roster spots left vacant when the Spurs traded Tiago Splitter to the Hawks, and free agents Cory Joseph, Marco Belinelli and Aron Baynes agreed to sign with other teams. More importantly, it positions the Spurs as a “superteam,” with appeal to other free agents.
Because Aldridge is to get a maximum, four-year contract from the Spurs, starting near $19 million for the 2015-16 season, the Spurs are limited to minimum contracts for the players they’re trying to lure.
They aren’t apt to find another player willing to give up as much as West did to accept the league minimum.
“It was never about money for him,” Austin said. “Having given up $12.6 million what it was about was finding the best fit for him. Obviously when he decided what the best team was we looked for the most money but his choice of team was paramount. Period.”
West played only 66 of 82 regular season games for the Pacers last season, and his scoring average dipped from 14.0 points per game in 2013-14 to 11.7 points per game. A solid mid-range shooter, he has a career field-goal percentage of 48.9 and a career free throw percentage of 82.0.

Spurs won't have Bird Rights, but the cap increase should get them the money to pay him his true market value next summer.

So Pop's master plan has finally kicked in. Infiltrate the rest of the league with former Spurs brass. Have the media sing the Spurs praises as the best organization in sports. Unleash the "Beautiful Game". And now, take over the NBA with unprecedented free agent signings. Great to be a life-long Spurs fan!

I'm still kind of freaked out that West actually signed. The more I looked at it, and the $12.5M he had passed on, the more sure I got that he wouldn't settle for less than about $6M. He was looking like another one of those guys you'd love to see on the Spurs, but know you never will.
This has been the most amazing few days. I know a lot of things still have to go right to win the whole thing, but damn they've won the first battle convincingly. I'm really anxious now to see how the fill out the rest of the roster.

A person with knowledge of the deal tells The Associated Press that the veteran forward is taking a one-year, minimum salary contract worth $1.4 million to join the San Antonio Spurs. The person spoke on condition of anonymity because the deal has not been announced.
