View Full Version : NBA: Players who got inflated reputations because they had HOF teammates/great system

The current most obvious case is Rondo...I would say Ben Wallace without McDyss/Sheed frontline in Detroit would probably flop like he did in Chicago or elsewhere..

Any other cases of players who made it multiple allstars game, not role players, who weren't probably that great and had their flaws masked by playing alongside HOF teammates or evolved in great system?

Have to disagree about Ben Wallace. He was a great player on his own until his knees gave out in Chicago.

Scottie Pippen
Anyone who played with prime Magic Johnson
Anyone who played with prime Jason Kidd
Anyone who played with prime Steve Nash

Richarcd Jefferson-- though never been an All star-- was putting numbers like one mostly slashing his way to Jason Kidd assists..HE was completely exposed once he got out of the Nets. He wasn't even that old when came to Spurs 29yo..

Kobe, Shaq and Jordan

Phil is #1/2coach of all time, depending on how you view brown. I guess you can put Duncan up there for being with pop, he's a few ranks below Jackson but still a great coach.

Enrique tbh, he would've probably gone back playing in Europe by his 25th birthday (never sniffing significant minutes in NBA like V-Span) if he hadn't got such a great coach like Pop who developed him into an all-star PG.

Ben Wallace was a 1st team All-Defender way before Sheed and McDyess showed up.

Ray fuckin' Allen,,,that dude has won rings because of teammates in different cities.,,,hell, dude couldn't hold Seattle above water and they moved to Oklahoma,,,but he did hit a huge shot against the Spurs ending their title hopes, so he is another Horry but with a bigger rep that isn't warranted,,,

ray allen was a monster in milwaukee and seattle... just had poor rosters. best teammate he ever had as a #1 was rashard lewis.

ray allen was a good shooter but does not warrant the type of rep he gets. I would take Scottie Pippen over ray allen every day of the week,,,and its not even close,,,Scottie Pippen took the Bulls to the ECF's with Toni Kukoc as his best teammate when Jordan was retired,,,

Jim is the obvious answer. Failed to win olympic gold outside Pop's system even though his team was stacked and playing against 3rd world countries.

When are you going to stop claiming those titles from Minneapolis as your own?,,,

i know this is a troll answer but im gonna reply anyway. FIBA basketball have a few things that difficults for centers, the court is smaller (at least was back in 02/03 dont remember), and the defensive players are allowed to be in the key all the time.

everybody knows my take on about enrique the coatrider

if he was good, how come the years the spurs were ousted in the playoffs elimination games he was never to b e seen...

this pos loves the attention when the spurs are winning and shit, but nowhere to be seen at the of a loss...
