View Full Version : Would have PATFO gone after Marc Gasol if he were available?

Gasol is the better defender to replace Splitter, but LMA is the more polished offensive player with a higher ceiling in the Spurs system (3pt potential ett..)..Do you think PATFO would have gone after Marc if the latter expressed a desire to leave MEM?

Personally, with Spurs not being able to count on Tony anymore to get you 18-22 pt on nightly basis, Aldridge made more sense as it would to saddle Kawhi with an offensive burden that could affect his defensive prowess (see the decline in Jimmy Butler's)...Also it didn't help that i watched Marc getting near-shudown by 6'7 Draymond Green :lol

Didn't RC in his recent interview say they kicked the tires on Marc, but knew he'd stay in Memphis? So the answer to your question is "Yes" but the PATFO were smart enough not to waste much time on it.

I head the same thing that they inquired about Gasol and after he stated that his preference was to stay with the Grizzlies they turned all of their efforts to going after LMA.

RC basically confirmed this during his interview at the last SL game... basically said they reached out and were told Gasol fully intended on staying put, so they moved on to LMA to avoid missing out on that one too

Gasol didn't even have meetings with anyone besides Memphis. He and his camp made it pretty clear that he had no intentions of leaving. There would've been no point in wasting time/resources into pursuing him.

$110,000,000 is a decent consolation prize. Also can't blame him for wanting to see if he can't take his own team to the Finals. Unlikely but sure can't fault him.

Maybe he's a loyal guy? And it's not like Memphis hasn't been winning. They've won 161 games over the past 3 seasons. They went to the WCF in 2013.

I think it's pretty stupid to accuse him of not being about winning just because he decided to stay in Memphis.

I think Mik was just saying that he wasn't going to chase a ring at the expense of moving his family and life. Not saying he wasn't trying to win or that he didn't care about winning.

Gasol is probably a little better than LMA right this second but I love the LMA fit. Gasol and Duncan wouldn't have been as great of a fit.

If you're building a team from scratch to win next season, you pick Gasol before Aldridge. But on these Spurs, their ceiling is higher with Aldridge because his scoring and spreading of the court will just enhance what the Spurs can already do.

You got it! most contenders think they have maybe 5% less chance to win than Spurs so they are not going to change their lives for that 5%.

gasol would have been a better duncan replacement, though LMA will likely coexist a bit better in the short term

You are not seeing the whole picture, Greg Popovich Duncan still producing 5 rings most winning franchise ever etc etc. Add to the mix Green Leonard Manu and blabla thats a hard offer to reject.
He doesnt have the same options in Memphis, he wants to win but he´s not dying to win a ring like David West, there are different levels of winning, would you sell your soul for some?

I just thought we needed a more reliable fall-back scoring option, and LMA provides it more than Marc..Now if his he hones that 3pt shot with Chip..

The Cavs have a much easier path to what you call the D league finals ya dork.
Tim is not all about winning. He ismore about loyalty.

Go go sit in the corner.
And you must miss the first 15 minutes of lunch.

When you get back you will write Boston Celtics on the board for each NBA championship. Yes, it hurts me as well.

Personally, i think Lebron is not about winning basketball, its about promoting his fragile ego which was started by the NBA

Lebron needs at least 7 humans to win games (four teammates and 3 refs)

Lebron is overrated,

Gasol is quite possibly the most overrated player in the league. He's the exact opposite of the perception of him and is closer to prime Divac or post prime Sabonis than he is the so called best center in the game. Cousins and Duncan are clearly better than him and if Howard could get and stay healthy for an extended stretch, he probably still is too.

He's a great complimentary player, but this team needs a foundational offensive player now and going forward.
