View Full Version : Would 6 for TD be an asterisk in the eyes of NBA fans?

With all the talk of TD 5 and TOSB 5. If Duncan were to ring next year and plays a small role, would it be tainted in any way by the NBA fan? I can already hear the excuses tbh... "oh but he needed LMA to win 6" or " he couldn't of done it without LMA carrying his ass" IMHO no I don't think it would matter at all. Duncan has been great for so long and was instrumental to SA's 5 titles... He deserves a backseat to at least one imo. Don't get me wrong though, I wouldn't be surprised in the slightest if TD is the main reason (again) if we were to win 6

NO, no player wins a ring without out a 1-1A tandem. See: Kobe-Shaq Magic-Kareem Lebron-Wade. How'd Lebron fair without his 1A this past season?

He's was all NBA last season. Doesn't matter if he doesn't score 30 a game. He's vital to the team no matter what the roster looks like.

People kind of do that already. They say Duncan couldn't get 5 without Kawhi … I think each of Duncan's titles have been legit and any future titles he wins would be adding to his huge legacy.

Side note:

Who cares, as long as Duncan rings tbh.

Don't see any NBA fans putting asterisks on Kareem's 6th ring, despite him being horrible during that '88 playoff run.

I don't see how winning a title could tarnish someone's legacy. I mean it might not mean as much for his legacy as, say, his '03 title run...but it'll still mean something and add to his career legacy.

Having to listen to people make excuses about why your team just won the championship is the best problem in the sports world to have. I hope I have that problem many more times.

No once discredits Curry for what he did last year, even though Iggy won the FMVP. All that will matter is 6 > 5, and it will cement his place as the best of his generation. Did whatever it took to win, while eboK spends his last years in the lottery.

What the ... ? This forum has no room for maturity or optimistic statements. To answer your question: No asterisk will be associated with Tim Duncan's titles when his career ends. Phil Jackson mentioned an asterisk for the 1999 Championship because he's really a jealous little girl.

Spurs won't win a ring without heavy contributions from Duncan. Also, Duncan's willingness to take less money to resign made this superteam possible. He will be a legit 6 time champion, though I would agree that it wouldn't be the same as Jordan's 6, it will still be one of the top three greatest runs for a player in NBA history.

Keepin' it real
07-14-2015, 04:33 PM
If Duncan were to ring next year and plays a small role, would it be tainted in any way by the NBA fan?

Tainted is too strong a word, but I think OBJECTIVE fans would see that Jordan 6 > Duncan 6 if Duncan "played a small role."

Jordan was still at the top of his game and the best player on the court when the Bulls won their 6th. TD might only be the 3rd best player on the Spurs next season, so that would take a little bit of luster off, but only a little bit. Winning 6 is worthy of homage and esteem, no matter what.

the battle will be waged by the kobe nuthuggers. right now they are shitting their pants since the LMA rebuff and begging debacle not only because he didn't come, but because he gives Duncan a legitimate shot at 6. Even the lakerzground faggots have accepted that kobe isn't gonna get 6 and the only thing they have left is the war for the hearts and mind of the casual fan, who right now still thinks Kobe > Duncan. It's a closer split than ever as Kobe continues to cancer it up in the lottery, but they still have a narrow lead because after the "ringz" shit take, which when tied in 2014 was a major blow, points is all that's left standing. They know though that if Duncan gets 6 it's game over for Kobe's claim as the PMJGOAT. The "*" storyline will be promoted hard by the Kobestans including media Kobestans like Broussard, Stephen A Smith, Magic, etc.
