I was curious what group thinks of Caitlyn Jenner receiving an award tonight on the ESPN ESPYS. First of all he and or she has not been involved in Sports for 30 to 40 years! He will be awarded for bravery, courage, etc............... I am not against him being a transgender, Who gives a Fu_k! I just don't understand how this relates to Sports. Maybe Pete Rose should be awarded an ESPY when he finally admits to Gambling while playing baseball so many years ago. We should be awarding athletes that have and are making a difference in Sports and this world. People who are born transgender live a life of struggle, shame, and challenges. Mr. and or Ms. Jenner lived a privileged life with the best doctors in the world. Now he is a Media Whore getting liberal attention and launching a new reality show. I hope he gets booed and people walk out on him tonight!

Yeah...it's super courageous what he did. He waited until the PC pendulum swung far enough to the LGBT and decided to come out. Not to mention that he's going to make millions off of the transition and the public broadcasting of the whole thing.

the Arthur Ashe Courage Award? this is a pretty well know award.

Here are some past winners:

Jim Valvano
Muhammad Ali
Pat Tillman
Tommie Smith & John Carlos
Nelson Mandela
Pat Summit

For the last 2 years, they're giving the award to an LGBT for coming out.

Lauren Hill deserves the award, plain and simple. But giving Jenner the nod will generate higher tv ratings, more water cooler talk at the office, and more discussion on social media platforms. ESPN is a business, and they made a business decision.

Since op is wondering out loud what jenner winning it has to do with sports, maybe you can try to explain why Jenner or Nelson Mandela won.

Two people responsible for the Brucette selection explain why (as if we didn't already know).
ESPNs Maura Mandt.

% chance she is dyke and influenced her vote?

An article on how they made the selection here, with the caveat of course of:
Last week they agreed to talk about the process for the first time via phone. On a conference call with them was an ESPN PR representative and Ken Sunshine, a well-known celebrity public relations specialist who is a friend of Mandt’s.

Troy McClure trying to make a comeback dates Selma Bouvierr, just using her for a beard after his agent said a part calling for a family mnn was being cast.
Selma: Troy, are you gay?
Troy: I wish! Then I'd have no problem getting parts!

Since op is wondering out loud what jenner winning it has to do with sports, maybe you can try to explain why Jenner or Nelson Mandela won.

Jenner is winning the award because he happens to be a very confused, very rich man who likes to dress like a woman in a time when mental perversions are welcomed and applauded.

Mandela won because of what he did to try to reconcile white and black South Africans through the 1995 Rugby World Cup.

FYI though:

The Arthur Ashe (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Arthur_Ashe) Courage Award (sometimes called the Arthur Ashe Award for Courage or Arthur Ashe for Courage Award) is an award that is part of the ESPY Awards (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ESPY_Awards). Although it is a sport-oriented award, it is not limited to sports-related people or actions, as it is presented annually to individuals whose contributions "transcend sports".

Not sure how he fagged his way out of.....well i guess we are.
TMZ turned on him and showed something in his hand right before he murdered that gal in the car. (Right?). Was later said to not be a cell phone. Well then what was it?
Sure enough wasn't the phaggot seen a week later in a car on the cell phone?
Then he had the nerve to speak out against the relatives of the deceased for their civil suit against him.

Isn't it interesting how all of this was planned just for ratings and to be trendy? Give this human an award for being brave and have the shitty awards show on ABC instead of ESPN so everyone can tweet and facebook about it. Pathetic.

So if Jenner gets an ESPY for bravery then shouldn't Ed Wood get a posthumous honorary Oscar because he wore women's clothes? Or would that not be trendy enough?

'ESPYs,' Caitlyn Jenner score record ratings for ABC

The 2015 ESPYs, which culminated with Caitlyn Jenner (http://www.nola.com/tv/index.ssf/2015/07/espys_awards_caitlyn_jenner.html#incart_river) getting the Arthur Ashe Courage Award, drew a record 7.7 million viewers -- triple the audience (http://variety.com/2015/tv/news/ratings-espy-awards-soar-on-abc-cbs-big-brother-steady-1201541579/) the broadcast got last year on ESPN. The telecast was the most-watched program of the night, outdrawing CBS' "Big Brother" (5.97 million) and NBC's "America's Got Talent" (5.79 million).
Jenner received a standing ovation after her 10-minute speech, according to the Associated Press. (http://www.nola.com/tv/index.ssf/2015/07/espy_awards_2015_a_tearful_cai.html#incart_river)
"This transition has been harder on me than anything I can imagine," said Jenner, vowing "to do whatever I can to reshape the landscape of how transgender peopleare viewed and treated."

A huge part of that is it being on ABC instead of ESPN... Broadcast ratings still destroy cable ratings. But it still probably would have been ESPN's highest ESPY telecast.
