back in the day, this was GOAT discussion. I loved this show. But it doesn't stand up today. The jokes and feel seem very era dependent. Maybe every show has this to some degree but some hold up better.

Really the first successful show where none of the characters was actually likable. Somehow that show shone a mirror on society without any one person watching realizing the show was about him/her.

That's a cartoon. Cartoons are like reality TV,,,done only to go on the cheap and save $. I'll do neither.

It's my religion.

Its been in reruns for 17 years and now you say it sucks...shows don't last forever. Helluva run.

I'll watch on rare occasions, but once you've seen an episode two or three times already. ..

Although, it still brings the funny just as much if not more than a lot of the shit on tv these days...

I've always hated it, I couldn't stand any of the characters, the "jokes" were unfunny and I couldn't stand the sped up pen music that they used for the show.

I enjoyed Frasier from the same time period

C'mon how can anyone not laugh their asses off at episodes like "The Marine Biologist" or "The Red Dot" to name a few?

I love the show.

You could argue Seinfeld perfectly dissected our society at the time. It made light of corky social norms etc. That is how you pull off a show about nothing.

But this is also why re-watch ability is so high. To this day Seinfeld reels in monster ratings. Because you could click on nearly every episode and it stands alone. Meaning no need to know side characters or even main plot lines.

I'll still click on an episode late at night and it's still good. Really good.

I used to love the show but seems like when I watch it now, it's not as good as I remembered. Maybe I was too hard on it.

Seinfeld = Beatles

May not be the highest climax but it is the most consistent quality. Very few scenes of mediocrity in this sitcom. When people ask me of the best show I have ever watched, it is Seinfeld

As a Black man, there's nothing for me to relate to in Seinfeld, tbh:lol, but I still think it's one of the best written comedies of all-time, and I actually think it holds up pretty well today, at least compared to other shows from the 90s and earlier..

Generally speaking, comedy(of all types, shows, movies, stand-up, etc) ages worse than any other facet of entertainment/sports, tbh..

Seinfeld has always been the show that tells you if someone is able to laugh at themselves and society in general. People who can love it, people who can't think it's a dumb show.

Dont really have one. Hard to like one consistently.

I like Seinfeld, dont get me wrong but I just dont take sitcoms as anything worth having in a list for.

I would say The Office from season 1-4 is my favorite though.

I thought The Office went way downhill when Jim and Pam hooked up. The writers on the orginal were smart enough to not have Tim and Dawn hookup until the last 15 minutes of the series so that it went out on a high note.

Their humor is is dry as fuck. Also could barely understand and identify the funny words they use.

I liked that they could tell dirty jokes in the original version, since they don't have the level of censorship we do.

I couldn't get into the original The Office either in spite of the fact that I love Britcoms. I don't know if you've heard of it, but my favorite britcom is The IT Crowd----highly recommend it, it's pretty good. I believe there are 4 seasons on Netflix.

Best Britcom is Peep Show, also on Netflix. It's like Odd Couple meets Always Sunny In Philadelphia.

I don't know man, do you have any examples of it being era dependent? Right off hand the only episode I can think of that probably wouldn't work now is when they're at the mall and looking for their car in the parking garage, since who goes to malls now?
