Seems to me Spurs are in the range to sign a max player (or close) each of the next 2 years when the salary cap explodes:

2016 salaries: $68 million (not counting Duncan $5.6 million which I guess is guaranteed even if he retires?) Include $3 million guaranteed portion of $6.5 million to Diaw. Cap projected to be $89 million. Better case here is get one more year out of Duncan and save cap space for 2017 when...

2017 salaries: $66 million. Diaw unguaranteed $7 million, Duncan not on books. Cap projected to be $108 million. This would probably allow us to get a third max player to pair with Leonard + Aldridge (& Green).

Hope we can get him resigned for a couple more years by then. By then his game will have probably slipped to where ginobilis was over the past couple years so we will need a starter but Tony could still be solid off the bench.

Kevin Durant, league MVP..... lets not pretend Kawhi could ever be the player Durant is . This doesn't mean we dont like Kawhi. Apples and oranges to me. Kawhi is a great defender with a monstrous Finals run on his resume. KD is obviously an incredible player, but doesn't need to be talking smack about anyone less he wants to watch repeats of his only Finals run. This 'system player' rub is funny to me because it is a system and a team and the rub is always used by those whose team accomplishments are small.

I've never cared much about the players individual prowess if their team inevitably loses. Thought KD's stat padding in the league MVP race was obvious and telling. To me guys like Manu Ginobili have the perfect careers. Great success on every level.

We still have the amnesty clause from 2011 don't we? We could easily amnesty Porker and have that much room.

Hell, Durant can be our PG as he's quick enough... he and Kawhi can take turns bringing the ball up when they're in the game... then you bring in Patty/McCollum/whoever off the bench, maybe Manu will come back for one more year, maybe he won't...

Really? I thought you can use it on ANY one player until the CBA runs out, then you get a new one. I didn't think that a renewed contract made after 2011 would invalidate the use of the amnesty clause. Correct me if I'm wrong?

Either way, would it be possible to trade Parker and a future second to a team with cap space needing a PG for say, a different future second and a bag of Doritos?

The contract would have to have been signed before the collective bargaining agreement In order for the player to be eligible for the amnesty provision for that CBA.

That's Tony Parker actually. KD has to do that in OKC: 1) Because Scott Brooks (who was fired) and 2) Because Westbrook. Ironically, you put KD in the Spurs' system and he will thrive magnificently. He probably will score a lot less points, but the easiness of his shots would be something insane.

Anyways, Kawhi would be the Shooting Guard w/ Durant playing at SF. Damn that's a pipe dream. TP, KL, KD, LMA, TD and Danny fucking Green off the bench to back-up Kawhi. Damn.

As much as Spurs fans hate KD's comments towards the Spurs and Kawhi for being a system player, keep in mind that come 2016, Durant will pretty much be in the same boat as Aldridge - having spent his whole career with a franchise that can't put him over the top. If he really wanted to ring, Spurs would be the realistic option. But if he's looking to get paid, he can always go elsewhere.

KD won't pick Lakers for the same reason that LMA didn't even consider Lakers: why stick a star in his prime along with a young developing core? It's almost counter-intuitive. The older stars are better off sticking together in one team to have the best shot of getting a title.

KD won't pick the Wizards for the same reason. Paul Pierce pretty much made the team a lot better during his stint, but really how big of an upgrade is John Wall to Russell Westbrook and Nene to Serge Ibaka?

Realistically, he's either going to retire a Thunder or better off joining a group of stars, whether it be the Spurs or maybe another stacked team.

I wouldn't be shocked if Spurs got a visit during the offseason with him.

I called it last off season from what I remember when people were saying that we wouldn't even get a meeting with Aldridge.

If Spurs win the championship this year, I think it would be extremely intriguing to KD tbh

He is really good friends with Lamarcus, and has a pretty good relationship with Pop from what I've heard.

I think he will listen, but I think he is staying OKC (60%) or going to Washington (40%).

Not a chance in hell. Realistically there's no way he would come to the Spurs, but at this point in his career, he'd be crazy to go to the Lakers to play with some kids who are still settling into the league. He's in the prime of his career, he's never won a title, and the Lakers won't help him win one. Unless his goal in life is to be Carmelo Jr., he'll go somewhere where he at least has a shot.

In the Annals of NBA history, the small forward is stacked with legends....

Bird, the greatest small forward who played the game

Len Bias, might have been the greatest talent, but alas, we will never know

Julius Erving, the most spectacular small forward in history

Dennis Rodman, as a small forward was the greatest rebounder, with possibly the highest bball IQ

Scottie Pippen, the greatest all-around defender

Paul Pressey, the man who originated the point forward position

Rick Barry, one of the fiercest competitors ever

Elgin Baylor, the best one-on-one forward the game has produced

and if you consider Dirk Nowitzki as a small forward, then second to Bird

--------------------------------------------------------

Kevin Durant is NOT in this class yet, he has NOT reached their level yet

-------------------------------------------------------

On the other hand, if Kawhi develops an offensive game to match his defense, and continues to develop, sky is the limit for him

-------------------------------------------------------

Conclusion: Kawhi has greater potential than Kevin Durant at this point!
