Awesome, final piece to the offseason puzzle that included signing:

Tim Duncan, LaMarcus Aldridge, Kawhi Leonard, Danny Green, David West, Boban Marjanovic, Jonathon Simmons + trading for McCallum.

oh and Coach B

It's not a surprise to anyone who's really watched TP. Sure, last year was horrific and clouds everything, but he's always been a way better than advertised defender for his position.

Not a surprise to me for sure, but to many on this board obviously.

But not surprising to look back at the NBA's last 10 years and which team had the most success when you see that list.

Not to pour cold water on this thread but it'd be nearly impossible for Ginobili NOT to have the highest NetRtg of the Big 3 since of the three he by far has played the highest percentage of his minutes alongside the other members of the Big 3.

Simple math, tbh.

but having more minutes with porker would drag him down, so it only makes his numbers more impressive

Not surprising that one of the minutes leaders on the team with the best defense over the last decade would have an elite DRtg, one of the reasons why that stat sucks. But..

Very true. When he was engaged, Tony could guard his position (even though people don't realize it as with the 2014 WCF). I'm not confident he could check elite PGs now, though, even if he gets healthy.

DPG21920
07-20-2015, 02:25 PM
Ya - there is no way, even if healthy, that TP could check Curry, Westbrook (who can tbh..), but he just has to find a way to not be a massive negative. He has to contribute by holding down the guys they hide him on. It can't be a "whomever TP is guarding, go at him" type scenario all year.

Hopefully.

Stats like plus minus, on/off, five man lineups, etc., don't mean much without context.

Right, but for the majority of his career, he's been a legit star mostly going against true bench players and doing so with managed minutes. That's a big advantage.

Right, but for the majority of his career, he's been a legit star mostly going against true bench players and doing so with managed minutes. That's a big advantage.

Out of his 28627 total career minutes (playoffs and regular season), he played:
- 18415 mins with Duncan (64% of the time)
- 16647 mins with Parker (58% of the time)

The perception that he played the majority of his minutes against bench talent is not really true.

He played a lot more than the typical player of or above his caliber.

He also had his minutes managed, which obviously helped him play at or near capacity and not have to concern himself with pacing.

Let's say Manu would have started instead of coming off the bench, do you really think his numbers would have changed so dramatically to prevent him from still toping that list? Manu's netRtg in '05 when he started the whole season is 16.6 :lmao
