N.J. Attorney General will not investigate police response to cop's shooting of ex-wife
FREEHOLD — The New Jersey Attorney General's Office will not take over the investigation into law enforcement's handling of a Neptune police officer's fatal shooting of his ex-wife in the presence of cops last month.

On June 16 in broad daylight on an Asbury Park street, Seidle, 51, had fired off two rounds of shots at Tamara Seidle in the presence of Asbury Park and Neptune Township police officers who did not return fire. Seidle, a 22-year veteran of the Neptune Township Police Department, was well known to police officers and residents in neighboring Asbury Park.
At least one Asbury Park police officer was on the scene shortly after 11 a.m. when Seidle fired off the first round of shots from his service weapon at his ex-wife while she was in her car on Sewall Avenue, witnesses have said. Several more Asbury Park and Neptune officers had arrived before he fired a second round. While they all had their weapons trained on him, none of the officers fired at Seidle, witnesses said.
After holding police at bay while pointing a gun to his head, Seidle eventually surrendered to authorities.
A week after the shooting, acting Monmouth County Prosecutor Christopher Gramiccioni announced his office was conducting an investigation into whether the responding officers followed standard operating procedures under the circumstances.
Gramiccioni acknowledged the panel conducting the investigation – the Professional Responsibility Bureau – includes two former members of the Asbury Park Police Department. But Gramiccioni insisted their roles on the panel were not at a level where a conflict could arise.
On Wednesday, Gramiccioni said that when such an investigation occurs, his office is required to notify the attorney general's office within 72 hours and report any potential conflicts. He said his office complied with that requirement and received the all-clear to proceed with the investigation.
