Gregg Popovich has repeated the same theme for years now, and he did again last week on a Bay Area radio station.

Then, he called himself “a kind of pseudo-basketball person.”

Popovich has been well compensated during his NBA career, and he loves to coach. But he has always insisted he has other interests, from politics to wine to travel, and that he was going to experience them without a 24-second clock marking time.

Good article, of course he is more than just basketball, wine expert, military background that means lots of knowledge about geography, people etc.
Looks strong to me, at least strong enough to kick Phil Jackson´s ass so there will be Pop for a long time.

His hip surgery had gone well, but there was a hiccup with a heart condition that was not unlike the atrial fibrillation that Fab Oberto had. Popovich underwent a procedure, and, after he had done everything the doctors had asked, palpitations returned.

Brown says the episode occurred during the preseason tour in Europe. That eventually culminated with Popovich missing two games in late November for a second procedure.

“I really believe he was close to retiring then,” Brown said.
:wow :wow :wow :wow :wow :wow

Holy shit.

No shit, if Pop is having heart problems he should have retired and eased the stress in his life. I mean I fucking love having him coach the team, but he's gotta put his own health first.

Well, I don't know if any of you guys remember him saying in one of those after game interviews - "Kawhi is just so damn young.." or something to that effect, probably eluding to the fact that he can't coach Kawhi for his entire career. This next four years may be, IMO his last. The emotional and physical toll in coaching may just be a bit too much.

This. I'd miss him like crazy but his health must come first.

I agree with you 100% that health shoud come first. I guess he is willing to risk his health to do what he loves for $11 million per year.
