There's no excuse for the Spurs...I really would like to consider them one of the great teams but to be honest they're really no better than the 94-95 repeat Rockets...failing to defend is a major disqualifyer...

I do give them credit for being consistent though so there is some redeeming quality there...they're just not in the same class as the Alpha teams...like the
A Teams

Lakers
Bulls
Patriots
Cowboys
Yankees
49'ers
Celtics
Pittsburgh Steelers

B Teams
Spurs (leader of NBA B teams)
Heat
Rockets
Colts
Packers
Red Sox

If you have won a title on any locked out year and also if one was part of a repeat effort then you automatically get added to B teams list...

The Spurs have never repeated as NBA champions because they are a marginal mediocre team at best, they only win the championship when something bizarre happens, such as the Suns suspensions and Dallas losing in the first round. The Spurs first championship was like this as well, they got a Portland team in the Conference finals in 1999 which shouldn’t have been there in the first place. If the Spurs would have played the best team in 1999, which was Utah by the way, than the Spurs never would have won the championship.

Only during their 2003 NBA championship did the San Antonio Spurs defeat the most talented team in the NBA to advance. In 1999 both Utah and Miami lost before they could face the Spurs, in 2003 the Spurs beat an often injured and changing Los Angeles Lakers but did not have to face the Sacramento Kings who were probably even better than the Lakers that year.

The Spurs 2005 title is a tad bit more respectable because the Spurs did have to go through Phoenix and the defending champion Pistons to win the crown, Both Phoenix and Detroit as some of the worst, best teams the league has ever had.

The Suns defend the basket much like the French defended Paris against the Nazi’s, and Detroit’s offense is offensive in more ways than one. Finally this year, the Heat, Pistons, Mavericks and Bulls are all eliminated before they can face the Spurs, the quartet of Denver, Phoenix, Utah, and Cleveland is about as easy of a road to the title as a team could ever get.

Calling Tim Duncan the greatest power forward in NBA history is just laughable, he’s an above average scorer, and defender who is playing in the weakest era of basketball since the 1940s. If Tim Duncan is so good than why is he 2-6 in playoff series against the only two big men of his era, Karl Malone and Shaquille O’Neal? Not to mention both those players where coming out of their primes when they faced the Spurs?

If Tim Duncan was playing 10 years earlier he would not even be on the NBA’s all 3rd team, he’s to slow and weak to be able to defend O’Neal, Malone, Hakeem Olajuwon, Patrick Ewing, or Charles Barkley, in todays NBA Duncan has to face Nene, Amare Stoudamire, Carlos Boozer and Drew Gooden not exactly the same group of guys now is it?

Tony Parker earning finals MVP is even more of a joke than when Chauncy Billups won the award in 2004. Neither of these guys are anything more than above average point guards who have earned name recognition because the league sucks so bad, and that’s the key to the entire Spurs so called "Dynasty".

The NBA sucks right now, so a decent team such as the Spurs can win championships because someone has to, that’s it they are not on the same platform as the 60s Celtics, 80s Lakers, 90s Bulls, their rank historically may be somewhere above the 80s Bucks, but no one calls the 80s Bucks a dynasty now do they.

Also for being an ABA team who were robbed of a championship against Washington during the first year of the NBA-ABA merger. The spurs have been highly successful.

D_Admiral

Furthermore 1 of Miami's chips was during a lockout season. Automatically disqualifies them from B list since they've won so few, and it was in defense for a back-to-back

Don't count those 2 series Duncan lost to Malone. Duncan was a rookie when he lost in '98 to the Jazz and Malone was the MVP at that time. In '04 it was Duncan vs Malone and Shaq so I throw that series out of the window also. If you want to play this game I can throw out the fact that Shaq-Kobe are 1-8 vs Malone in the playoffs.

In that 04 series, Malone shut down Duncan offensively in the last 4 games of this series. 38% FG combined in those 4 games and Spurs went 0-4 A 40 year old Malone lol

To say Jim is the best at anything is simply retarded. He is not in the top 5 of any major statistical category... (points, rebounds, blocks, assists, steals.) He failed to defend his title 4 fucking times while bringing back the same team, or better. He has never led the league in any statistical category... not even once! Out of 18 years he has only played a full season twice... and one of them was a lockout season. To claim this guy his the best at his position is much worse than saying Jesus is white, or Muhammad spread peace... or Jews are the chosen people of God. Its all lies and idiotic.

Kobe does not have less accolades. If we're going to truly compare everything that has ever been won by Jim and Kobe then you have to include Olympic Golds... Jim has none... All-Sar MVP's... Kobe has the most of any player... Player of the Months and Weeks... Kobe is killing Jim in this category. The simple fact that the league has awarded Kobe Player of the Month 17 times and Player of the Week 33 times compare to Jim's 23 and 3 speaks volumes. That's right... he only made player of the month 3 fucking times in his entire career.

The only knock you guys have on Kobe is he missed the playoffs twice in his career. Really three due to injury but check this out... even though Jim has never missed the playoffs in his career Kobe has been to the Finals more times. Chew on that. You want top 5 playoff stats? Kobe has more points, steal and assists than Jim in the playoffs and yet Jim has played 41 more games. And don't get me started on head to head... do we need to go there? I thought so. No matter how you slice it... Kobe is shitting on Jim.

The Spurs have not repeated, that is true. Oh well.....They still have 5 titles in 6 tries. They have either the best or 2nd best winning % in NBA history. During the Tim Duncan era, they have the best winning % of all the pro teams in the 4 major US sports leagues. They are the best small market franchise in the history of North America.

The Spurs have been good for almost their entire NBA existence, with only 6 losing seasons in over 40 years, and only missing the playoffs 4 times. Also, they have the longest streak of consecutive 50 win seasons.....which most likely would be two years longer, if not for the strike to start the 98-99 season. They won 56 during Duncan's rookie year, and then 37 in 50 games during the strike year.

Are the Spurs on the same level with the Celtics or Lakers, NO....and I am ok with that. I am happy with us being the 3rd best team in NBA history. Before you mention the Bulls, yes they had a nice run in the 90s, but aside from that decade, the franchise has been subpar. Even in recent years, they have done basically nothing in the postseason, while the Spurs, Lakers, Heat, and Mavs have been doing great things over the last decade.

So enjoy your Lakers, and I will enjoy my Spurs. While you have a lot of history to enjoy for your proud franchise, your present kind of sucks. It reminds me of the Spurs of the late 80s. Our present is pretty nice, and I will enjoy the last season or two of Duncan and Manu.......I know once they are gone, our success will probably drop off a bit.
