Anyone seen it yet? Just got back from watching it with the wife and its the best movie I have seen in a long time. Can't remember the last time I left the movies so satisfied, Gyllenhaal was fantastic as well. This and Nightcrawler were both fantastic performances by him.

Yea not a movie that needs amazing writing though imo. They did a really good job of keeping the audiences attention, my wife usually cannot stay awake through movies and she was super attentive the whole time.

I usually leave the movies feeling like I didn't get my moneys worth, this was one of the few times I have thought "wow, that was worth every dollar".

I found the ending both emotional and mind bending. "Southpaw" is realizing his world around him, especially for his loved ones, is descending into chaos and darkness. He realizes this alternate universe can only be fixed if he goes through the wormhole and accepts the fatal knockout punch. It's ultimately about love and sacrifice imo.

Hmm, that is odd. Gyllenhall is probably one of the best actors under 40 at this point tbh. Maybe Donnie Darko gave him nightmares as a child?

Funny thing is I haven't even seen that movie, nor will I but there's no denying Jake has been on the raise as of the last few years.

Have you seen Prisoners? A very underrated movie that you dont hear much about but it's an excellent watch. Hugh Jackman is in it too and he's also great in that.

Yep prisoners is really really good, I mean if you look at the difference in roles between Prisoners, Nightcrawler, and southpaw it really shows off his acting range. Impressive he can play all of them different roles so well.

So I'm was finally watching southpaw today and was thinking damn this movie is pretty good. I remembered this thread towards the end. I start glancing through and read the post above and was like, awww shit I just ruined the movie and wth he effin dies?! What kinda screwed up ending they trying to pull? I put my phone down before reading the rest of the thread. I kept waiting for him to die in the fight. :lol

This was maybe the first movie in 10 years I saw that I couldn't even make it through. It just bored me and for some reason I didn't find the acting all that convincing. Maybe the payoff at the end would have made it worth it but I couldn't wait for it. Good think it was only $2 on Blu-ray at Redbox.
