Ohio State TE gets 'hate' e-mails for dropped TD pass
ESPN.com news services

Ohio State tight end Ryan Hamby told the Akron Beacon Journal that he has received "a couple hate" e-mails after dropping a sure touchdown pass in the Buckeyes' 25-22 loss to Texas.

Hamby let an 8-yard pass pop off his chest on third and goal late in the third quarter. A touchdown and extra point would have extended the Buckeyes' lead over Texas to 26-16. However, Ohio State had to settle for a field goal and later gave up the lead.

Hamby, a fifth-year senior, wouldn't elaborate on what the e-mails said, when asked by the newspaper.

"Just dumb things," he told the Beacon Journal. "You almost want to go, 'In the scheme of life, you've got things going on around the world. It's just a game.' I didn't approach it like that, but it is and it happened. I can't do anything about it."

Ohio State, which entered the top-10 showdown ranked No. 4 in The Associated Press poll, dropped to No. 9 in the latest AP poll. Texas remained No. 2, behind top-ranked Southern California.

Yeah that's pretty sad that people do that......should Texas fans send him a thank you email?

He gets hate e-mails for dropping it? I'd like to see the fans who sent him the e-mail be in his postion and get a helmet to the ball by Griffin and see what they do.

I bet the same thing would happen to a UT player. Big time football programs take the games pretty seriously.

How could that kid have dropped that pass on such a critical play?

Sincerely,

I'm surprised it wasn't more than a couple.

Ironically, students at institutions of higher education can be really stupid sometimes.

So some nuts in cyberspace got a hold of Ohio State TE Ryan Hamby's e-mail address and said a few choice words about Hamby's dropped touchdown pass in the 25-22 loss to Texas.

You know what? Yeah, it was a big play. Yeah, he should have caught it.

But if you nuts want to blame someone, blame coach Jim Tressel. Somehow, super sophomore WR Ted Ginn touched the ball four times in the game. Two catches, one rush, one kickoff return. That, Buckeye nuts, is a joke.

How do you have one of the two most exciting players in the game, and throw the ball to him four times (two were incomplete) and run it once? How, in the name of Woody Hayes, does Ted Ginn not get at least 15 touches -- or more?

Forget about Ryan Hamby. He's a kid, and he made a mistake.

Send an e-mail to Tressel.

Crazy. I'm a huge OSU fan and I was obviously disappointed about the game but I didn't harbor any animosity towards the TE. Maybe a little towards Tressel :lol
We got outcoached and we got beat and we're still in the top ten. :elephant

It is just a game, it is not life or death.

You lost to one of the top 5 teams or whatever, you won't drop down that much.
