Connecticut's top court on Thursday ruled that the state may no longer impose the death penalty, saying that under the state's constitution, it amounts to cruel and unusual punishment.
The New England state is the latest to back away from the death penalty, after Nebraska this year and Maryland in 2013. Thirty-one U.S. states still allow for executions.

Stupid decision. Let's see how much we *save* by keeping these murderers in prison for the rest of their lives now.

was the decision a monetary one?
Shoveling taxpayer $Bs to the PIC, esp by mandatorily jailing non-violent offenders, is fundamental to the American judicial system. Is blood-thirsty you outraged by that?

The only way anyone should get the death penalty is if they are caught red handed in the act.

save money? :lol
a death row inmate waited an average of 178 months (roughly 15 years) between sentencing and execution.[1] (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Death_row#cite_note-Journalist.27s_Resource.org-1)
Nearly a quarter of deaths on death row in the U.S. are due to natural causes (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Death_by_natural_causes).[2] (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Death_row#cite_note-2)

15 years x 12 months x $30K/month = $5.4M prison costs PLUS legal costs, on average! :lol

ehh, don't really have a problem with this, but their cruel and unusual argument is pretty silly. Its certainly not unusual, and for most crimes its not cruel.
Pros:
Some assholes deserve to die.
Research shows it is a deterrent.
Cons:
Very costly, with good reason.
Chances of executing an innocent.
Disproportionate amount of minorities executed in relation to crimes committed.
Really have no problem with a state that bans the death penalty, but come on, it is not unusual, and in relation to the crime committed...very rarely cruel.
