Old greats can never have a younger player better than them. Diego has failed in so many areas of life you can't question his football prowess versus a kid from his own country (his coke coaching self being a giant scar) It's all he has got left from the public. Old competitive guys just can't possibly man up if they fail at so much else.

messi is a GOAT-level player but maradona is just superior. Sure he is a coked up half retarded asshole, but his world cup resume is miles better than messi's. And the WC resume is what really matters... Ok then, fck club football.

Son quit being an idiot. Asshole isn't great, it means manning up and not drifting when challenged. Messi is a great player but he has a tendency to drift when challenged. Maradona didn't give a single fuck, straight up man.
Both duncan and kobe played like men, imo duncan > kobe all time.
And it's easy to talk about club success with that barcelona team. Still, they choked alot and a better leader would've won more (yes, more) with them. Maradona wouldn't lose to atletico madrid. And let's not talk like maradona didn't have club success, with MUCH LESS talent than messi.
Older legends aren't always better: platini is overrated as hell, pele is also overrated (not enough club competition) and so on. On the other hand there was nothing overrated about maradona or zidane.
The way you post you just generalize things and make yourself look like a dumbass tbh. Clearly not knowledgeable. Even the argie fans will tell you diego was better.

Just a more rounded up leader, and better passer, IMO... he wasn't humble at all, he knew he was the best and on the pitch, he was... He did more with less, and he really went all in for whoever he was playing (Argentina, Napoli, etc). He's the kind of guy that cried when he came up 2nd in the 1990 World Cup. He was outspoken as a player and person, if he didn't like something, he'll just blurt it out, for good or bad. That's why his stay in Barcelona was short.
That doesn't make Messi bad or any lesser player, just vastly different personalities...

He can do it all like I'm assuming Maradona was capable of doing too.
I'm gonna watch Maradona tapes to better inform myself, watching Messi every time he plays might have made me a little bit bias. In my opinion Messi doesn't really need to have that type of personality Maradona had, Messi can take over games based on his sole footballing qualities, but I guess a lot of people prefer the outspoken types that could back it up.

How's Maradona a better passer? Messi is the greatest assister of all time (stat, not an opinion, tbh). Those "above the defense passes" Messi makes like 3 or 4 times per game is something that I have never seen anyone else do (at least not with the insane regularity Messi does).

They both have the same aura, in that whenever they get the ball, it's mesmerizing... frankly, since Diego retired I've never seen anybody else other than Messi being like that. And Diego loved to show off, even when he wasn't the fastest guy anymore, he could still do magical stuff with the ball.

Look, Diego had a hand on his left foot. He was actually way, way better passer (and free-kick taker) than anything else (scorer, etc). That doesn't mean Messi isn't great either, and to be frank, he's actually improved a lot on that in the last few years. Those "above the defense passes" Diego used to do every game. His precision on those kind of passes was amazing. He also had this thing where if he would be in the wing, he could pull a cross ALWAYS. And I mean ALWAYS. Not blocked, not matter who the defender was, and what was he doing, he could always deliver a good cross.
I love Messi, and I hate to compare because they are different players. Messi is way more of a scorer than Diego ever was.

Passes, free kicks, crosses. You haven't named a single thing Messi doesn't dominate, tbh. If Maradona always made those "above the defense" passes then how come I can't remember anyone. I've seen hundreds of Maradona's assists and I don't remember many of those kind of passes, tbh.
I sometime think people argue stuff like "Maradona was a way way better passer" just because the assists stats from back then aren't as precise as nowadays, so that's the only thing they can argue for without getting stats thrown at their faces. If goal stats were the same, I'm sure more than one would be saying "Maradona was a way way better scorer than Messi".
I seriously doubt Maradona was a "way way" better passer than Messi. A passing robot with swiss watch precision wouldn't be "way way" better than Messi at passing, tbh.

Just google "maradona best passes" and head straight to youtube... there's hours and hours of those "above the defense" passes. I mean, you can find from his days in Argentinos Jrs, Boca, Barca, to Napoli, to the World Cup... if anything, it's unbelievable how many goals were missed wide open by his teammates (dos de Ramon Diaz en 1982, para matarlo al pelado). After you posted that, I went looking for them. Don't tell me you can't find them. There's one from Barcelona alone that's like an hour long, just passes.
And I'm not saying Messi doesn't "dominate" those areas, but Messi was nowhere near the passer he's today when he was younger, same with free-kicks, etc... Diego at 15 years old in Argentinos Jrs, was just ridiculous hitting the ball. Those goals against Gatti, just ridiculous. Besides dribbling and fakes, that was Diego's biggest asset. He was the kind of guy you though had eyes in the back of his head. He knew when to make a pass, the open space, and 90% of the time, he put it right where it needed to be. Bochini was like that too. I miss those #10, there's fewer and fewer of them.
In hindsight, today's ARG fans are pretty spoiled when it comes to talent, IMO. Even if we haven't won shit in a while, we're way more clearly stacked than back then (very few exception, like Batistuta). The only thing that was way superior then was the defense. But when you had a guy like Diego, that's all you really needed.
I don't know why some people think that praising Diego means automatically some sort of slight against Messi. I like them both, they're both magical in their own ways, and we're lucky that we had both. Like almost every other country would kill to have those two 20-30 years apart.

I had the chance to watch both of them play, and itīs deja vu. No better way to say it.
The difference between the 2 is clearly their personalities. Their games are similar.
I donīt know if "personality" is a measure to say one player is better than the other, but with Diego I felt like he would die on the court if that meant to win the game. He played with a passion that represented the fans on the court.
His will to win was unmatched.
I just donīt feel like that with Messi.
Maybe Messi is better. Or has better stats or whatever. But I identify myself better with Diegoīs game. Itīs subjective I guess at this point.

It's like some guy telling me "Jerry West was a way way better shooter than Curry", I can't obviously tell for sure 'cause I never saw West play regularly but I pretty much doubt there has been a better shooter than Curry in the history of the NBA, much less "way way" better, tbh.

That's what I said. Just that Diego had that talent from the get go. Some players have "it" and some players have to work hard to get it. Messi worked hard and he's really good at it now. Diego just always had it. With that, I'm not saying that Diego is better than Messi, all I'm saying is that Diego always had a great touch, and IMO, always was a great passer. One of the best passers I've seen.
I don't think that praising Maradona automatically means a slight to Messi, tbh. But when you say "Maradona was a way way better passer than Messi" I can't help but wonder. It's like some guy telling me "Jerry West was a way way better shooter than Curry", I can't obviously tell for sure 'cause I never saw West play regularly but I pretty much doubt there has been a better shooter than Curry in the history of the NBA, much less "way way" better, tbh.
No, it's more like taking Kevin Durant and Kawhi, and saying that because their shooting % are now comparatively the same (and I haven't looked, tbh, just an example), we can't say Durant was the way better shooter. Kawhi couldn't hit the side of a barn in college, he worked really hard at it, and now he's an excellent shooter. But, if you ask me who the better shooter is, well, Durant always has a natural talent for it, he's done it for longer. It's not crazy to say he is the better shooter.

I mean, there was no YouTube back then, not everybody kept an archive of every game or highlights. I used to watch the games.
Comparing Kawhi and Messi isn't fair. Messi has been scoring free kicks and making those assists for like 7, 8 years now. Kawhi just this season started to hit shots at the clip he does now. If he keeps this up and ends up his career with better shooting % than Durant, while proving he can make them in a different kind of ways (not just spot up), then it would be perfectly fair to say Kawhi was a better shooter than Durant. It doesn't matter than he wasn't a good shooter in college, tbh.

I'm just going to disagree on the 7, 8 year thing. He's been shooting free kicks for a long ass time, but IIRC, the first he actually nailed for Argentina was 4 years ago against Paraguay. And his passing has come a long way too, but I don't know about 7-8 years. He's definitely excellent now.
It's just my opinion, I really value and appreciate people that have certain innate talent for things. IMVHO, I rank them higher in those areas because of that. If I had to single out one thing Diego had that was better, it was that. It was effortless for him. Just like Messi has that innate ability to be at the right spot at the right time (and I think that goes a long way explaining why he's such a great scorer). Diego had great awareness for the pass to the open spot, but didn't have that knack for scoring. He was more of a set-the-table guy.
They're both great in their own ways, both dominant on the pitch. I just hope Messi wins something for Argentina, hopefully this Sunday it is. I just think he deserves that as part of his record book.

Diego on a diet and coke free... he reaches goat status by 25, by 30 he scores 1,000 legit goals and one more WC
If Messi played for Spain, he would find the system who fit him the best but still would shrink under pressure and maybe Spain is light one WC

son we both know that messi and spain means a big fuck you to the rest of the footballing world. They'd legit win back2back2back euros and back2back world cups and the messi cock sucking would be historic. Imo messi brings exactly what spain misses, a goat talent who can play me first and team ball. He'd get so many great balls from xavi/iniesta/frabregas/silva/alonso/biscuits that he'd probably score for the NT like he's scoring for barcelona. thank god this didn't happen or we wouldn't even sniff 14. this would-be spain team would undoubtedly the GOAT team, I mean not even close.

Damn, Diegoat going IN on the Argentina Federation...
"They left Messi alone and I don't want to leave him alone. That's why I want to talk to him: to fight against those that left him alone, from the first to the last manager, from Segura to Veron, whoever it is", Diego said. "In my opinion, he said what he said to cover the complete mess that's Argentina's Federation. They make the kid put his face to cover all the disasters they've been making, and today we're talking about him instead of them. And to cover, also, that we lost two consecutive finals against Chile, who, with all the respect in the world, it's not '74 Holland. Honestly, at this point I don't believe anybody. I have the feeling that they sent him to say that stuff: 'Go out there and say something to save us'. We were a disaster and they left him alone"
...
"Messi has to continue with the National Team, he has to continue!. He has to go on because he has a lot of talent for a while, and because he's going to get to Russia with every chance to be a World champion. He has to find strength among those teammates that can help him move the team forward and less on the people that tell him he has to go. Take away from him the people that don't even let him cry! They don't even play, and they don't let him cry. Because those that tell him to quit, do it to cover up the disaster that's the Argentina's Federation".

Lol everything pretty much, one of the biggest laundry money machines around here, corruption etc etc...
We had a corrupt old fart for 36 years now that he died everybody wanted to be AFA president and now that the lack of money and bad management came to light things are bad also add the fact that the new government is controling whats going on now suddendly nobody wants a part of it.

Basically the previous corrupt president died after 23843298432 years of being president (also FIFA vice-president, friend of all the corrupt FIFA guys that the FBI nabbed, this motherfucker had to die like 3 weeks before the busts).
Now there's a power vacuum, politicized, they're dead broke (players were complaining during the Copa they didn't even had dinners ready for them after the long flights).
FIFA was going to send a "commission" to normalize the situation, but now a judge jumped in, so Argentina might actually get kicked out of FIFA for a while. It's a mess, tbh.
Some people actually wonder if Messi didn't step aside so this shit gets sorted out. There's no way FIFA kicks out Argentina for a while with Messi the marketing money machine, but now...

BULLSHIT
i think germany will beat those spain/barca midgets, dodgy fucks selecting all midgets in their lineups to get the benefit of the doubt playing high balls without jumping to contest with a headbutt, but instead clock their neck back for a fake foul cause the taller player is already in the air with a arm/elbow upto the midgets neck....fckn barca/spain midgets is no different to the italian divers
