I was reading this article about the development of Jeff Teague over on Bballbreakdown(http://bballbreakdown.com/2015/08/13/jeff-teagues-development-helps-hawks-take-flight/) and they had some interesting stats from last season..

http://bballbreakdown.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/08/Parker-Teague.jpg

It was obvious he lost a step or five last season, due to nagging injuries, getting fat, or what have you, and we saw him struggle to blow by big men if got the switch in the PnR, or to finish at the basket when he got there. Witnessing that, you would assume he ranked pretty poorly in the PnR but apparently not. If he can regain a little foot speed it would bode well for him and the team with the extra spacing we're going to have in the starting lineup this year.

http://bballbreakdown.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/08/Drives-Teague.jpg

Likewise you would assume, after all those horrible layups he missed at the rim, that he would have an awful FG% on drives when in fact he had a higher FG% than all other elite guards.

After the terrible season last year, it's hard to imagine he'll regress or perform similarly. What are your expectations of him this year?

He looks great right now playing for France, tbh. Diaw is spreading the floor just like LMAlpha will and it helps him tremendously, just like it will for Leonard. It also seems like his 3P% last season wasn't a fluke.

Tony and Timmy's pick and pop game has been weak these last couple of seasons, so expect that to be a huge weapon for us with Aldridge replacing Timmy on those. :tu

If he isn't more athletic than last year he'll settle for too many 38% mid-range shots and play even worse defense. If he was truly hurt then he can be better than last year otherwise it will be garbage from here on.

he doesn't need to be athletic. We have young talent. He needs to take enough of the 38% midrange to make himself a threat and feed the ball to our new midrange specialists. Those mid ranges he took open it up for the 3 pt shooters. Just having him run the damn offense is enough to earn his new "MAX EXTENSION" salary

Among PGs who played more than 10mpg in the 2014-2015 season, Parker ranked somewhere around 18-22nd in Win Shares, based on your personal definition of PG.

He ranked around 25th of PGs in defensive win shares

Around 44th of PGs in BPM

Around 45th of PGs in VORP

~20th in assist percentage

~50th in steal percentage

~36th in offensive rating

~25th in defensive rating

~25th in PER

http://bkref.com/tiny/euHhI

And those numbers just become worse if you are more loose with your definition of PG and include more combo guys and shooting guard playmakers. It's almost impossible to make an argument that he was not a bottom 10 starting PG last year, let alone top 10. He will turn 34 years old during the playoffs next season, and will be expected to go up against the likes of Stephen Curry, Russell Westbrook, Chris Paul, and Kyrie Irving, if he wants to win a title, at an age when most players Rapidly Decline (http://wagesofwins.com/nba-players-age-like-milk/)

What is my personal definition of a PG? Where in my post did I define PG? I never denied that Parker had a bad season last year, stop derailing the thread. :nope

He needs to make it at around 45-50% to be respectabel and actually help the offense. When he's bricking them 62% of the time, the defending big can sag off and protect the drive/pass to rolling big man. OTOH if he's attacking the basket and forcing the hand of the defending big, it will leave the LMA/Tim open for the pop/roll more often than not. IMO

I think TP is going to come back strong this year. The paint should be wide open for him with the new look Spurs. The big question to me is can he make it through the season without pulling a hamstring yet again.

That graphic made it seem like he was on par with Jeff Teague, when in reality Bill Parker wasn't worthy of drinking Teague's ball sweat last year.

If you're looking for a prospective analysis, see the article linked at the end.

:lmao Trying to make reasonable posts now. Anyway, if what Ive seen from him in eurobasket is any indication of what we can expect to see from him next season then Im excited af.:flag:

The graphic was to show where Parker ranked in the PnR. That's it.

The author of the article was comparing Teague to Parker, so you can take your agenda to him.

I think he will be fine because he will have a smaller burden. Kawhi and LMA should handle the heavy scoring burden. Tony should have lanes open to drive and dish, occasionally also look for his own shots, he needs to continue to be a threat to score to keep his man occupied.

where are you watching TP and Diaw play? FIBA games don't start for another month at least no?

Parker was bad last season. There are so much "advanced" stats that you can find some good ones for him but it doesn't change the whole picture.

To me, the main reason to have some optimistic is that Parker's struggles are directly related to injuries. Last season, when he was fully healthy (in November and in March) Parker was playing well. He was a 17/6 player last season before starting being injured. If he can stay healthy this season, I see no reasons for him not to be back at about that level.

Yes, this might be part of some small tournament ... but everything that's not Eurobasket or qualifiers is friendly for me.

IMHO that would mean a Spurs championship.

I'm optimistic that a leaner Parker will do better than the prior year. And I'm hopeful that Pop can reign him a little more as well.

The spin at 1:53 is vintage Parker. Unfortunately, so is not hitting the open teammate in the corner or on the drive at 1:43.

Parker and Aldridge are going to dominate on pick and roll offense. Everyone else needs to be there to feed off scraps. I'm sure Timmy is willing to accept role to with sixth ship.
