Yeah...I heard part of his press conference today. Damned shame. Didn't agree with some of his policies and decisions but never doubted his integrity and sincerity. Good dude.

Doesn't look good for him. He said he is at peace -- and he has definitely lived a full life. Hopefully, he'll continue to fight on hard though.

By all appearances, he had a great life for 90 years. Of course the Repugs HATE the guy and screwed his attempts to free the hostages.

I wouldn't bother with many $100Ks in treatment and suffering. Try to beat the pain and go quickly.

Whatever his faults as a President may have been, President Carter has used the platform of his fame and power to do very good things for a lot of people. His post-Presidency should be a model for others who follow him into that spotlight.

The signs of his mortality are saddening.

I hope that whenever his time comes, others will pick up his mantle and continue the good works of his life.

President Jimmy Carter's amazing last wish

President Jimmy Carter has spent the past 30 years waging a war to eradicate guinea worm — a battle he has nearly won.
This make's Carter's wish at a press conference today — to discuss a cancer (http://www.vox.com/2015/8/17/9163717/jimmy-carter-great-leader-outsider) that has spread to his brain — especially poignant.

Dr. Sanjay Gupta (https://twitter.com/drsanjaygupta)
(https://twitter.com/drsanjaygupta)✔@drsanjaygupta (https://twitter.com/drsanjaygupta)

"I hope the last Guinea worm dies before I do." Pres Carter reflecting on the work of the Carter Ctr.

Guinea worm is a debilitating parasitic disease that in the mid-1980s used to infect millions in the developing world.

But thanks to the work of the Carter Center, there were only 17 cases of guinea worm counted in the first five months of 2015, a stunning public health victory.

Ted Cruz Chooses Perfect Day To Be A Dick To Jimmy Carter

Sen. Ted Cruz, displaying the warmth and basic decency that have made him a legend among near-human beings, chose the day after former President Jimmy Carter announced that he has brain cancer (http://wonkette.com/593145/watch-jimmy-carter-laugh-at-his-cancer-smileyface-emoticon-here) to natter on about how terrible a president Carter was (http://www.bloomberg.com/politics/articles/2015-08-21/ted-cruz-slams-jimmy-carter-day-after-wrenching-talk-on-cancer), (http://www.bloomberg.com/politics/articles/2015-08-21/ted-cruz-slams-jimmy-carter-day-after-wrenching-talk-on-cancer) but at least the man only had a single term before Ronald Reagan Saved America.

Less than 24 hours after the former president said, “I just thought I had a few weeks left,” and thanked God for his “exciting and adventurous and gratifying existence,” Cruz mounted the Des Moines Register’s candidate soapbox at the Iowa State Fair on Friday and shared his own take on the significance of the dying former president and world peacemaker, who helped negotiate a peace treaty between Egypt and Israel:

“I think the parallels between this administration and the Carter administration are uncanny: same failed domestic policies, same misery, stagnation and malaise, same feckless and naïve foreign policy,” Cruz said. “In fact, the exact same countries—Russia and Iran — openly laughing and mocking at the president of the United States.”

Cruz then paused and asked, “Why is it that that analogy gives me so much hope and encouragement?”

“We know how that story ended,” he continued. “All across this country, millions of men and women rose up and became the Reagan revolution.”

your obsession with Cruz

You Lie

Christian supremacist Krazy Kruz made Carter's cancer announcement an opportunity to say Repugs beating Dems in 2016 would be like Repugs beat the Repugs' hated Carter in 1980. Just in case you Repugs forget how fucking nasty, sadistic, inhuman YOUR politicians are.

Jimmy Carter was a very nice guy that was way out of his depth as President. The metastasized brain stuff killed my sister...it wasn't that bad a way to slide out.

I assume he's a dead man walking.

My bball team's center lasted 7 months after diagnosis and after a few $100K of futile treatments, radiation, chemo, whatever. That was after he went into hospital for a hip replacement, caught MRSA, and laid in the hospital for months while MRSA ate up his butt and headed for his spine.

End-of-life metastatic (brain) cancer care is a huge scam in nearly all cases. And that's w/o even mentioning the huge decline in quality of life, pain, sickeness from the treatments.

Carter was a more bold president than anyone that's been at bat post Reagan, certainly more intelligent than Dubya and Nobama.

immunological approaches are promising but it's still very early, and of insanely expensive.

marijuana is here now and worth a try for any short timer like Carter.

I think targeted chemo delivered by nanoparticles will be more immediate, or targeted nanoparticles locking in to cancer cells and then heated by magnetic or other wave energy. Cancer is very sensitive to heat, as in killed at lukewarm 110F.

Listening to him, he sure sounds lucid and articulate for being 90, let alone having brain cancer.

This is a big ask. It's still incredibly difficult to target ONLY cancer cells. And even bigger is We know we miss some of the cancer cells because they are displaying normal antigens during certain phases. Killing identified cancer cells is not a problem.

If you can kill most cancer cells, "debulking", then cancer can be treated, and re-treated, as a "chronic" disease rather than as a fatal disease needing immediate treatment. This a recent approach to cancer by some docs.

Molecular medicine, nano-medicine, immunological medicine are still new, developing.

Doctors are wildly guessing most of the time, they don't really know shit, ignorance is rampant.

The Case for Teaching Ignorance

http://mobile.nytimes.com/2015/08/24/opinion/the-case-for-teaching-ignorance.html?_r=0

and so many docs gave up on independent practices are now nothing but revenue centers for large clinics, hospitals. America is fucked and unfuckable by its for-profit medical system.

In some cases you are going to die from the big void left by "debulking".

But it in some types this seems reasonable. And I would agree that some docs are being led around by pharmaceutical companies in an absolutely disgusting manner.
