In 2013, conservative reality TV star Josh Duggar—of TLC’s 19 Kids and Counting fame—was named the executive director of the Family Research Council, a conservative lobbying group in D.C. which seeks “to champion marriage and family as the foundation of civilization, the seedbed of virtue, and the wellspring of society.” During that time, he also maintained a paid account on Ashley Madison, a web site created for the express purpose of cheating on your spouse.

In May 2015, Duggar was forced to resign after In Touch Weekly reported that he had molested five young girls (four of whom were his own sisters) beginning in 2002. When the accusations became public, the family went into crisis mode, insisting that Josh had reformed and that the media covering the claims was intent on “exploiting women.”

Josh himself took to his family’s Facebook page to absolve himself of his past indiscretions and assure the world he was back on a righteous path:

Twelve years ago, as a young teenager I acted inexcusably for which I am extremely sorry and deeply regret. I hurt others, including my family and close friends. I confessed this to my parents who took several steps to help me address the situation. We spoke with the authorities where I confessed my wrongdoing and my parents arranged for me and those affected by my actions to receive counseling. I understood that if I continued down this wrong road that I would end up ruining my life. I sought forgiveness from those I had wronged and asked Christ to forgive me and come into my life. I would do anything to go back to those teen years and take different actions. In my life today, I am so very thankful for God’s grace, mercy and redemption.
And his wife, for her part, certainly seemed to believe it:

And when you, our sweet fans, first met me when Josh asked me to marry him... I was able to say, “Yes” knowing who Josh really is - someone who had gone down a wrong path and had humbled himself before God and those whom he had offended. Someone who had received the help needed to change the direction of his life and do what is right. I want to say thank you to those who took time over a decade ago to help Josh in a time of crisis. Your investment changed his life from going down the wrong path to doing what is right.

But data released online in the wake of the hack on Ashley Madison’s servers certainly seems to show otherwise. Someone using a credit card belonging to a Joshua J. Duggar, with a billing address that matches the home in Fayetteville, Arkansas owned by his grandmother Mary—a home that was consistently shown on their now-cancelled TV show, and in which Anna Duggar gave birth to her first child—paid a total of $986.76 for two different monthly Ashley Madison subscriptions from February of 2013 until May of 2015.

Shocker. What next, a congressman railing against the "gay agenda" getting arrested for soliciting a male prostitute?

While I love it when hypocrites get exposed, it still makes me uncomfortable that a majority seem okay with the massive invasion of privacy that this leak was.

This was no leak it was a hack attack. Obviously a felony if the hackers are found.

Okay.

Regardless of semantics, sucks for all of the regular Joe's and Jane's who may have their lives turned upside down despite not doing anything illegal (and in a lot of cases, with complete permission from their spouses.)

If they had permission from spouses they should have nothing to worry about

If not then :lol them. Stupid enough to enter personal information on a cheating website :lol

Feeling vicariously threatened?

That isn't semantics either. If the hacker get caughts its a felony. It's not like he is going to get Snowden sympathy.

I'm not concerned with what happens to the hacker, I'm concerned with the public's lack of concern about the hack because of all the juicy gossip.

And moreso if voicing that concern means I must be cheating on my spouse.

So youre concerned about the public's lack of concern over hacking. I dunno there have been several high profile government, banking, and other hacks that have led to all manner of media attention, law enforcement response and legislation. They've been making shitty movies about it for some time too.

How is it not a privacy issue?

Privacy is if someone or the government got a hold of your data via "legal" means.

This is plain old robbery

So youre concerned about the public's lack of concern over hacking. It's the lack of concern over certain hacks. The public is generally okay with this hack and a lot are cheering it on. A hack is a hack and private information is private information.

Sure hackers are a concern. Just like robbers are. Don't mean we can't laugh at some idiots

Of course, because those hacks typically involve people's credit card info and there is more of a "that could have been me" perception.

With this one, on the other hand, it's all fair game because these people deserve it or something. As though they give up their privacy when they engage in legal activity that we have decided is immoral.

Sort of like the Pro Life argument that it's okay for the law to require you to carry a pregnancy to term because "if you didn't want a baby you shouldn't have had sex."

I'm waiting for someone to say theres a hit out on the hackers..it will change the global hacker game when they know someone is hunting them....

The executive director of the Louisiana GOP spent $176 on Ashley Madison, a website for people seeking affairs, but he says he wasn’t using it to cheat.
Jason Doré acknowledged that his name is on the list released by hackers this week, according to The Times-Picayune (http://www.nola.com/politics/index.ssf/2015/08/louisiana_gop_ashley_madison.html). But he said he used the account strictly for “opposition research.”

It's very important, in puritannical, prurient America, where the govt, BigCorp, and everybody must know everything about you. Sex is only trumped by money.

Josh Duggar set up a phony Facebook account he used to contact strippers and lingerie models

Radar online reported (http://radaronline.com/celebrity-news/josh-duggar-cheating-scandal-friends-arkansas-strippers-facebook/) that the same email address Duggar used to set up the Ashley Madison accounts was used to set up a Facebook profile for “Joe Smithson” (https://www.facebook.com/joe.smithson.9028?fref=ts) — whose friends are primarily women who live in the Arkansas area.

The account lists just a few “likes,” including Miss Michigan 2011 Elizabeth Wertenberger, porn actress Danica Dillon, and the MTV show “The Hills.”

Most of “Smithson’s” 31 friends are young women, including a dancer at Sensations Gentleman’s Club in Arkansas, a lingerie model, and a boudoir photographer.

Ten women sue Duggar homeschooling guru for rape, sexual abuse and cover-up

http://www.rawstory.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/09/Bill-Gothard2-800x430.jpg

A lawsuit filed this week by ten women accuses Bill Gothard, founder of Institute in Basic Life Principles (IBLP), of rape, sexual abuse and harassment. The Duggars and other Christian homeschooling families attended Goddard’s Advanced Training Institute to learn his teachings. Goddard’s IBLP was also where Josh Duggar was sent by his parents after he admitted sexually abusing five girls, including four of his sisters.

According to The Washington Post (https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/acts-of-faith/wp/2016/01/06/new-charges-allege-religious-leader-who-has-ties-to-the-duggars-sexually-abused-women/), which obtained a copy of the lawsuit, Gothard is accused of raping at least one of the ten women.

The Jane Doe plaintiff said that IBLP refused to go to the authorities after she reported that she had been raped by her father and other relatives. She also told IBLP that her father had sold her through human trafficking.

The woman said that Gothard contacted her father to ask if the allegations were true. The father denied the charges and Goddard threatened the Jane Doe for not obeying her father even if she was being sexually abused, the lawsuit said.

Gothard and another counselor at the IBLP training center forced the woman to have sex without her consent, according to the lawsuit. The woman said that she notified IBLP through an email in 2003, but nothing was done.
