I guess we'll see...they were a Kobe injury from the playoffs last year. I believe there team is stronger this year...better coach, better system, Odom playing the 3, Kwame (obviously a big ?, but I see at least 14,9 from him)

Mem’ries,
Like the corners of my mind
Misty water-colored memories
Of the way we were
Scattered pictures,
Of the smiles we left behind
Smiles we gave to one another
For the way we were
Can it be that it was all so simple then?
Or has time re-written every line?
If we had the chance to do it all again
Tell me, would we? could we?
Mem’ries, may be beautiful and yet
What’s too painful to remember
We simply choose to forget
So it’s the laughter
We will remember
Whenever we remember...
The way we were...
The way we were...

For what it's worth the lakers will be in the playoffs next year. Probably an 8th seed.
1. spurs
2. phoenix
3. houston
4. denver
5. sactown
6. dallas
7. seattle
8. lakers

What about Utah? What about the T-Wolves? You forgot about Golden State too. I don't see Seattle making it this year. I see teams like Golden State, Utah, and Memphis surprising people this year. The Lakers have their work cut out for them. I am not saying they won't make it to the playoffs this year. I'm just saying that other teams in the West might give them a run for their money.

Lakers are a borderline playoff team. As Medvedenko pointed out Kobe's injury could well have cost them a playoff berth last year, that's with Rudy and Hamblen coaching. What that tells me is that if Jackson can't get the Lakers minimum into the playoffs he's vastly overated.

The Spurs are the team of NOW. This we can all agree on. In fact, They should be for the next couple of years but I still think in my honest opinion that the Lakeshow WILL be back? When? I don't know? But hopefully soon so that we can once again have those great WCF games. Those were great games.
You have to admit though. The Lakers are one of the greatest franchises of all time.
Mr. Holt and R.C. Buford are solely responsible for making the Spurs one of the premier franchises though.
I will say this. It's great to hear Spurs fans give my man Magic Johnson a standing ovation everytime he's in town. Most Spurs fans that I know loved showtime.
How can I hate back?
Peace.

I am calling the Lakers as my 8th seed in the playoffs.
As much as I do not like the guy I think that Phil will bring the leadership and system that they needed last year. They have some talent they just need someone to put it together. I mean I will admit I did not even have seattle making the playoffs before last season, and they did pretty well.

The Lakers were a bunch of arrogant, self-serving asses that fell from grace..... hard.
They deserve everything they're getting now. I hope they're mired in the dregs of the league for a long time because they lacked a lot of class and respect for the competition when they were on top.

Yea i really do miss that rivalry. There are no longer two "elite" teams in the west. I miss the energy that the games against the lakers used to bring. Don't get me wrong that energy was there in the playoffs, but I did not go to a regular season game last year that had the energy that the lakers games used to put off.

All I know is I can remember going to the games when the spurs sucked. And as hard as it is to believe the spurs will not always be this good, we to will fall from grace, and there will be a lot of other NBA fans that will be happy to enjoy it.
I Travel a lot and I can tell you that perception is not always that were are classy. It is also that we are arrogant and smug. I don't agree but I do know a lot of other spurs fans that portray that image.
They lakers are not great right now, but that orginization is like the cowboys, they will be back, the owner will do everything he has to, to insure that they will be back. It is arguably the most celebrated basketball franchise, rivaled only by boston, who has lost its luster as of late.

Phil is a great coach and a playoffs master, he will push the Lakers to 4-th, 5-th seed and second round exit probably after giving great fight. Kwame will catchup some defense, and he and Kobe will anchor their defense well. McKey is not that good PG, but triangle offense is not demanding for PG's, and maybe their last year pick can help them. Odom is a border line all-star and a very versatile player. Kobe is a legit NBA star. Mihm in not bad center either. And they have a couple of good players in the bench.

Medvedenko, your team might have had a chance getting back to the playoffs this year, but now since you brought back Philiph, you screwed yourselves. Godd luck with all that!
The Lakers this year will make the playoffs, barring any injuries. But I'm thinking theyll be beat by a tough San Antonio/Houston team in the first round.

I consider the Spurs franchise accomplishments in many ways to be far, far greater than the Lakers’. The Spurs have amassed the best record in the NBA, in sports even, since 1997. They have been a consistently winning franchise since the late 80s. They have been a top title contender for seven years and won three titles in those years. They’re a favorite to win again this year and look to be a top, if not the top, contender for the next three or four years. This is all coming from a small market franchise, an achievement unmatched in the modern basketball era.
You say, “sure but the Spurs were lucky. They got first Robinson and then Duncan in the draft.” Well a few other teams had franchise players. The Knicks had Ewing, the Bucks had Alcindor/Jabbar, the Magic had Shaq to mention a few. So what happened to them? Well as we know a couple of them had their franchise player poached by LA. The Spurs were able to retain their franchise players, no mean feat in view of needing to rebuild on the fly. No mean feat when you witness the Carters, Hills, and TMac. In fact the current Laker brain trust is counting on the LA sun and starlets of LA to allow them to poach someone else in ’07. Not sure I can give them a whole lot of credit for much of their “glory” for this. That’s why I’m not as impressed with the Lakers’ achievements and, as a franchise, feel the Spurs accomplishments are more impressive.
Thank God the Lakers don’t have the brains of Pop and RC to go with the sun and the beach and those horny starlets and the opportunity to film Kazam II.

Very well put...and if my intention was to diminish the Spur's org. than I don't know ball. The spurs are very successful and their records and rings show it. Maybe at one point in time and history they will be referenced in the same breath as the Celtics and Lakers. At this time, I can't see it...small market or not. Yes, having a team in LA holds some promise, but remember how many teams are in California....what about the Clips, Golden States of the L...never won shit. RC et al are great at what they do, I realize that. They are light years ahead of Mitch Cupkake and even rival Jerry West.

the reference to LAKERS is the state motto of MINN. Land of a thousand Lakes. Hope I was able to help.
The Spurs are on top. End of story. Give them their props that are due. R.C. has pretty much out-manuevered all the GM'S in this league and it's paying off.
Mitch Kupchak is a complete Shmuck and miss the hell out of Mr. Logo (J.W.)
And in all fairness, The Lakers have been around alot longer than the Spurs so yeah, we better have more rings. But I digress, wonder what would have happend if the Spurs would have been around just 10 years earlier? Hmmm. One will never know.
3 rings. 3 almost different rosters. Yeah, I have to admit. pretty impressive.
Like I mentioned on a earlier post. I love hearing the old veteran Spurs fans prop my showtime Lakers. I know many of you in here that can remember those days will agree.
Those where a classy bunch of guys. I know many of old lady Spurs fans that went ga-ga over good ol Pat Riley.

Showtime certainly was the Lakers' highwater mark, not only in play and class but in astute front office moves. West didn't do much his last few years in LA, Shack and Kobe were gifts. Lakers' fans have to worry and wonder if Mitch Upchuck can ever get it done again.
