As the new season fast approaches, all Spurs fans should take a moment to count our blessings, and to celebrate the true greatness which has enriched our lives.

By true greatness, I mean, of course, our great Spurs point guard.

I'm talking about a man of skill, and a man of dedication.

A man of integrity, a man of honor.

A born leader!

Probably the most underestimated, underappreciated, and undervalued point guard in the history of the NBA.

A player without whom the Spurs would have languished in the doldrums, instead of ascending the mountaintops.

A man of supreme talent, who has, through his hard work and dedication, achieved the highest the NBA has to offer, but still, a man of humility and modesty.

A man we all admire, and the man for whom we voice our loudest cheers!

Here's to you, Tony!

Let's hear it for Tony Parker!!!

A true Champion!

Say it with me, all together!

Thank God for Tony Parker!! Thank God!!

Bullshit, Malone neutralized Tim, pushed him out to the 3pt line, and Phil shut down the lane for Tony's drive and/or kick, and the whole team sorta died after 0.4.

The whole joke with church threads is for marginal players. You see parker is hall of fame candidate. It's kind of insulting to church thread him. Because a church suggests exclusivity. Fuck that. It's beyond faith that parker was the best spurs guard for many of their most successful years. You don't get to faith that. You can't argue. You must accept Tony was the pg of the San Antonio dynasty.

PS .. Feel free to bump my "it's ok to love Tony parker" thread.

I figured y'all would Gino me and idgaf. Some people like Gino> parker. Most people like both though. You can't really use Gino to shit on Tony because they don't play the same position, don't play the same style, and don't directly compete. I maintain that parker had the better career, Gino better player. Thus my original statement is correct. Parker is the better spurs guard since he played a more central role in the offense. But I'll give you 2005 etc as Gino years. Basically, parker has a longer prime period and was more dependable.

FkLA
08-28-2015, 10:45 PM
You need to learn the meaning of most. 2003 they were both really inconsistent but I guess you could give the edge to Rique, after that Manu was the better player up until a couple years ago simply due to the fact that Manu aged. So best guard on the team, boiled down it's:

Manu: 9-10 years
Rique: 3-4 years

FkLA
08-28-2015, 10:50 PM
I don't care about all-star selections. You know who else has more all-star selections than Manu? Guys like Joe Johnson, Al Horford, Deron Williams, Shawn Marion, etc. Bunch of non-elite players that racked up a bunch of all-star selections because of systems that inflated their numbers just like Rique. None of them came close to having the impact Manu did.

Steve Nash?, Jason Kidd?, Deron Williams?, Chris Paul? Russell Westbrook, Rondo?, Lin.....hell Steph Curry just got his first ring.

Many of the Parker haters are like Tiger Woods wanting a hotter wife. Is he the best, maybe not but he's been pretty darn good for us over the years (last year excluded). We have been very blessed to witness what we've witnessed and you still have people griping that it should have been more. How about we be thankful and look on in admiration because it's been a fun ride. The good, bad, and sometime ugly. I still appreciate what the Spurs have done over the last 15+ years. :bobo to Tim, Tony, and Manu.

That was a once in lifetime scenario. You can't expect the team to play that way every year and indeed this year the bench didn't bail us out much.

When he was out earlier Duncan picked up the slack. In the 2014 finals we had multiple people raising the bar.

If it were so simple that benching parker =championship then I'd imagine the coach would try that?

By played better you mean they won one game where he sat out for a half in overtime (almost choked away the lead in the 4th quarter), but won 3 other games in the series where he played the whole game. Good logic.

well it was his team during those years

you want to be franchise player with keys to the team comes with a responsibility...

if he wont accept the blame then u clowns are putting him on the same level as kirby who only blames team mates for every fail while only accepting all the glory

I have never subscribed to this notion of 'his or anybody's team'. Not even Tim's because nothing is forever. The success of this team past and present has always been its "TEAM" approach. Nor has been 'blame' been necessary or required because it really doesn't correct errors or mistakes made nor does it change what has happened when they occur. The success of the Spurs has been continuity and consistency over the long haul. It works in any sport from a Jerry Sloan, Tom Landry, Coach K, etc. It will work without a Tim Duncan as well. This team has had the fewest "lotto teams" since the ABA merger than any team in the NBA for a reason and has had its screw-ups as well but the culture of winning has been paramount to the 'individual' IMO. It's was a financial imperative in the past. As to "Kirby", any comparison to Tony is moot as their behaviors and play are opposite an so many levels but if "blame" has to be apportioned to float your boat, so be it. Failures generally speaks for itself and has always been self evident and a part of any sport. So mote it be. Agree to disagree.
