“We are using our constitutional right to protest peacefully against some criminals that took everything from us! We’re launching an appeal to all the law enforcement authorities to maintain public order. The dictatorship doesn’t sleep, the dictatorship trembles. They mobilized all their forces to stop people from coming to the protest”, declared the political analyst Valentin Dolganiuc, one of the leaders of the Civic Platform “Justice and Truth”.
The people gathered in the “Piața Marii Adunări Naționale” are chanting messages against what they see as an oligarchic regime: “We are the people!”, “Resign!”, “Down with the mafia!”.
Another leader of the platform, Vasile Năstase, declared that by the end of the meeting, the protesters will ask for early elections and the resignation of the president, Nicolae Timofti, “who is not the president of the Republic of Moldova”. The protesters will also ask for the withdrawal of the MPs immunity, so they could be tried just like everyone else.
Vlad Plahotniuc, the oligarch that’s being acused by the protesters, has supposedly fled to Geneva before the meeting. Another political leader, Vlad Filat, is currently in Frankfurt. Dorin Chirtoacă, the mayor of Chișinău, is currently on a trip with his girlfriend in Barcelona.
The Red Block, a leftist party led by ex-communist Grigore Petrenco, is currently protesting in front of the General Prosecutor’s Office. The protesters wanted to install tents on the building’s front steps, but were stopped by policemen with helmets and bulletproof vests. Some of the protesters were arrested.

The protesters are installing tents in front of the Government building, intending to protest there non-stop until their requests are listened to.
