This is one case where the obvious answer is yes, raise taxes and pay for enough public defenders. Try getting that past the Tea Party.

Turn on CNN/FOX et al, and you get to hear all about the Kardashians or whatever evangelicals want to be outraged about, but never any actual real problems like this.
