Former overall #1 about to be bought out by the Timberwolves. Obviously he's a huge bust, but in a better environment could he be a serviceable backup?

Yeah, yeah, I know the cap numbers don't easily work. Just wanted to see if anyone thought Pop and crew could turn him into a player.

Zero chance they waive a guaranteed contract for this scrub. Besides, he's a 4, he won't get a single meaningful minute on the Spurs anyway.

He's most likely going to Toronto.

Dejuan Blair 2.0
Undersized PF, decent scorer and rebounder, can't defend.

Pass.

I'd rather bring back Blair and hire some mad German scientist to do experimental surgery on his knees...if he still has any.

Bennett is the reincarnation of Alfredrick Hughes. No thanks.

He's terrible, but he's only 22 years old or so, most teams will and should take a flier on him IMO..

Obviously he will never live up to the expectations of being a #1 pick, that boat has sailed(he hasn't even shown flashes, which is troubling, at this point), but man still has talent and upside, there's no reason for a team not to give him a shot in a new environment..

Spurs aren't really a realistic option, though..while it makes sense to join the most structured organization in sports, he's better off joining a mid-tier team with a little stability that can also give him some playing time, too..

This is a guy you knew was a bust on draft night. I saw him play in college quite a bit and was shocked when he went #1. Blair is a good comparison...except not as good as DeJuan.

I'm not sure how good fansided is as a site, but this guy paints a pretty horrible picture of what the Wizards have in Blair:
http://wizofawes.com/2015/09/19/washington-wizards-2015-2016-player-previews-dejuan-blair/

So if Bennett is the next Blair he can practically trip over the bar Blair has set with his career.

I think he'd be a good pick-up. However, don't we already have six bigs signed? What's the roster limit, 14?

Even on a minimum deal it wouldn't make sense considering how loaded the frontcourt is. He definitely should go to Portland or Toronto.

Maybe a good fit for Austin.

Good points all!

Our frontcourt is loaded now, but in a year or two max Timmy and Bonner will be gone. Boris and West are also up there in years. So, soon we will need some youth up front. I'm not saying Bennett is that guy, just that the logjam we have now won't last too long. So, we should consider any young guy with talent available. A young player, especially one willing to go to Austin, could work with the team a year or two before being a required part of the rotation.

I still remember on draft night when the Cavs front office shocked the world by unexpectedly taking Bennett, and all the "experts" on the internet lauded them for making such a bold move. :lmao

Even when someone points out that the obvious joke is coming, some still can't help but make that obvious joke.

Hell will freeze over the day Bonner is gone from the Spurs.

He's lazy. Already has Shawn kemps body the year he retired. But this kid is young and Shawn Kemp had a decade plus of alcoholism, drugs and not maintaining himself. He's a chunky Michael Beasley. Pass.

Not likely to work out considering he asked for the Wolves to buy him out so he can get more playing time. Not a lot of playing time available in the Spurs front court.

The cavs are so dumb for not trading down for Bennett, or just drafting Oladipo. Almost as dumb as trading Wiggins for Love.

Better question, you are ufa Bennett.... What contract do you sign... One year? Crazy money out there but a bad time right now.

Getting bought out of your rookie contract has to qualify as biggest bust. Your team is going to pay you to leave? Damn.

Bennett is on the upswing, he showed great improvement in his 2nd year. he could top out as a borderline all-star. The Spurs should grab him now and prepare for the post Duncan era.

FACTS:

* Assist/TO ratio three time better 2nd year.

* FG% broke 40% 2nd year, up quite a bit

* blocks + steal up, fouls down

Was injured and out of shape as rookie, still recovering to his former # 1 form.

no 2013 was the worst draft of all time. Anyone taken #1 would have been the worst bust in history. I could have declared and been picked in that draft.

He would have been better served to be a player that dropped in the draft. It might have made him work harder.
