“The Houthis don’t have fighter jets,” he said. “[The Saudis] keep saying that it’s somebody else... the Saudis yesterday, for instance, denied it was them, that it must have been the Houthis. For god sake, the Houthis don’t have fighter jets. Nobody is conducting airstrikes but the Saudis... The UN and the international community need to directly condemn the Saudis for these attacks, they need to take harder line.”

I'd understand capitulating to their medieval bullshit if we were still chained to OPEC, but since we've become more-or-less energy-independent, I'm pretty foggy on why we still bother calling them allies.

I would guess many in Obamas administration (as with previous) are from Oil families

It's dying out and people are more informed. Support for Saudis and Israelis is far lower today than 15 years ago

Support for Saudis and Israelis is far lower today than 15 years ago Israel has zero to do with our energy policy or even the broader topic of Saudi Arabia, but you're a Nazi, so I guess it's to be expected.

Iran used to be our ally and puppet from 1953 to 1979(26 years) it was basically a US territory. We installed a king, our puppet and a secret police that killed thousands of Iranians who would speak out.

The Iranian revolution kicked us out and the Ayatollah closed the doors to all teh West (with good reason)

So the US picked the next best thing at the time, the Saudis. It's not about being energy independent, it's about having influence in the area. After all everyone needs oil and US makes a few dollars for every drop of oil sold by Saudi.

Half a million Yemen children face severe malnutrition: U.N.

http://www.reuters.com/article/2015/10/16/us-yemen-security-children-idUSKCN0SA28W20151016

More than half a million children in Yemen face life-threatening malnutrition as a risk of famine grows, a senior official of the U.N. Children's Fund (UNICEF) said on Friday.

The figure, a three-fold jump since fighting erupted in March, reflects depleted food stocks compounded by a failing health system unable to care for hungry children or vaccinate them against disease, said Afshan Khan, director of UNICEF emergency programs worldwide.

"We are facing the potential of a huge humanitarian catastrophe ... The levels of malnutrition that are being reported for children are extremely critical," Khan told Reuters, saying more data and hard evidence was needed to declare a famine.

At least 5,400 people have been killed in the conflict in the Arab world's poorest country where an estimated 10 percent of the 23 million population are now internally displaced. The death toll includes at least 502 children, UNICEF says.

Yemen, which imported 90 percent of its food before the crisis, is subject to a Saudi-led blockade imposed on commercial vessels, which are inspected by a U.N. verification mechanism.

"We are allowed small passages of goods where the papers are clear," Khan said. "We have been unable to sufficiently replenish medical supplies."

And Obama:

Almost 2,500 now killed by covert US drone strikes since Obama inauguration six years ago: The Bureau’s report for January 2015

given the 90% innacuracy drone rating, that makes 2,250 innocent civilians killed by Obama

Starting a war is much easier than stopping a war, esp Global War on Terrorists (vengefully retaliating against USA Imperial Crusaders), as Obama has found out with the huge pile shit the Repugs bequeathed to his Presidency.

And in any case, like BigFinance, BigMIC is untouchable, unstoppable.

sure. but Obama officially owns the highly inneficient (90% civilian casualty rate) drone war and forever will in the history books.

he's stuck continuing the MIC's Global War On Terrorism.

How do you propose that Obama, or Bishop Gecko, or McLiar actually reel in the MIC's GWOT?

by signing or not signing things. CINC authority isn't imaginary -- it's spelled out clearly in the US Constitution. one might say it's the Presidential power, par excellence.

No they aren't tied, but the momentum of the Repug botched, illegal war is unstoppable, pushed hard by the Repugs and MIC (and MIC investors).

So what is Obama to do? Just leave Iran and Afghanistan, after the Repugs broke both of them, to the Taliban and ISIS?

What order would you have him give to stop the drone attacks?

What would you, as President, replace drone attacks with re-invading Iraq and Afghanistan, as if that option slaughtered no civilians?

and are you not equally worried about the 700+ US military installations, some clandestine, around the planet, remote outposts in the Imperial USA?

SOCOM/BlackOps murders people every day, probably more than drone killings.

Again the momentum and "curve" of the Repugs GWOT, after they willfully refused to defend America on 9/11, wanting a pretext to invade Iran, is unbendable.

globalizing drone attacks is one of Obama's most distinctive foreign policy acheivements.
