Coming from NJ, David West was a Spurs and David Robinson fan as a kid - at age 14, the Admiral was in his prime. West than attended Hargrave Military Academy - where he polished his integrity and focus. This dude may not be "Admiral II" in skills but he is there in mental toughness and character. (FYI: I attend USNA with DR - he is the real deal)

I really, really look forward to this year.

I really like David West. He's just one of those guys, even before he signed with the Spurs, you see him in interviews and you think, "He would be a great fit with the Spurs". Great to finally have him on our team!

Having the same first name probably also influenced his admiration for the Admiral. David is a very common name, however how many Davids do you find in the NBA?

My girl says I'm not sensitive enough but she never saw me reading about D-West in the past months, that USAToday's article... :cry...I LOVE David West, so glad he's on the team.

I can see West being a fan favorite pretty quick.

Exactly. As an Eric, this is why I've modeled my life almost entirely after Erik Estrada.

Gotta Watch this: David West on how Hargrave Military Academy helped him through the Pros: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1d7-4nGJeCE

Learning sacrifice and discipline at that age carries through - and you have to WANT to be at a place like that. Very little free time.

True Joint Force: DR - Navy, Pop - USAF, DW - Hargrave/Army, San Antonio - home to several bases.

David West is a true Spur IMO. He should have been on the team years ago. I'm happy to have him here now though.

I kind of found something funny - In that Youtube video, the description mentions Josh Howard went there the same year David West did. Doesn't look like Josh learned much discipline while there if his time with the Mavs has anything to say about it.

I hated him before actually esp. during that 2008 stint. Never thought he was a Spurs fan before. Thanks for sharing! :toast

"the description mentions Josh Howard went there the same year David West did'

Ironically, so did Larry Brown - and a host of former Military and Corporate leaders....

Hargave is also 3 hours from DR's hometown (Manassas VA)

This move was indeed "destined"
