It's a trade off but that's how science works.

I felt something similar when I learned that scientists would go into the jungle and smoke out a tree killing all life therein to count the diversity and look for new species. There are just ask sorts of decisions in life where short term gains are weighed against long term ones. Those are hard decisions.
