Was actually coke. One of his players told some school official he'd always show up high as a kite.

Yeah I could see how he would get wasted after losing to his former school

They also say his divorce has been very tough on him.
He needs to get his life back together. I'm not sure if the USC elite weighed the downers when hiring him.

That's it for him, that simply won't work at a school like USC. What parent wants their kid in that program? He might land a job at some NAIA or DIII school, but he can forget being a head coach at a major University anymore.

Yeah, he's done. That's a shame.

I think he is most likely done at USC as well, but if there is an FBS program that gets desperate enough, they could hire him. I didn't think bobby patrino would land a good job so soon but he did.

Officially out, per Haden, who likely needs to be packing his shit, as I type.

Need to go after a non-USC guy this time, imo.

As an alum, I think they could've showed a tad bit more compassion to his situation. I know firsthand that alcoholism is a serious disease and the affliction is exacerbated by a divorce or any other alleged issues that may have pushed him to the edge. For him, the hope is that he comes out ready to change his life for the better. Not to pleased with Pat Haden. For a Rhodes scholar, he's not good at making moves that are working. His head should roll as well.

Did Haden hire Kiffin? I know he fired him. Fired O'Niell and the baseball coach, too.

USC prints their own money and should dominate in all the major sports. If they aren't in any of them, the AD has to be accountable.

Aggie donors turning pockets inside out...

When is Sumlin's contract up?

They just re-upped him iirc. Wasn't he involved in USC rumors last time too?

I had it on good authority he was their guy. And Sumlin had interest. Problem is the USC thing is like the Michigan thing in that they, for whatever reason, want USC guys coaching USC so Haden went Sark.

After the Kiffin (USC) and Sark (USC) failures, my guess is they might revive Sumlin talks.

But I've also heard they will still push for USC folk like Del Rio or Jeff Fisher.

I have a feeling Sumlin and A&M wouldn't mind a mutual split at this point.

What a weird transition/search with Helton.

USC was throwing out all the usual names, plus talking NFL types like Gruden, Payton, Fisher, Del Rio, but settled on the little named, but familiar Helton. Not sure if this is the death knell for the Haden era or a shot in the arm. He's certainly coached the team very well since taking over under difficult circumstances.

But considering they were as recently as last week linked to Les Miles and Jon Gruden, this feels woefully underwhelming.

So much talent in the SOCAL region of the country, must be 500 HS's from LA to San Diego. If Helton could just get 25% of that talent to stay put, USC could roll.

As a human, I wish Sark the best in overcoming his demons. I can see both sides of the argument but I think in the end Sark loses based on the prior warnings not to come to work drunk. Now, is this the end of the Haden era? It might be. He has whiffed badly on coaching hires and though they love him at Troy, his time has come. But then again, we've settled on retaining Clay Helton. Not sure how that'll work out. However, with Wilcox gone, it might work. Jury is still out though.
