Of course the offense has changed.

If Manu can look this spry throughout the year (he won't) - that would be so big. Hopefully with managed minutes he has a shot.
The playmaking burden is reduced for him in that 2nd unit. I liked that lineup with TD and Boris, Kyle, Manu, Patty. Much less of a burden on Manu, he'll be good. He's so happy this season. I don't know, I think Kyle's youth was needed in the bench.

True. People forget that TP looked pretty damn athletic to begin the year. But that's why I have some hope that the injuries were legit and hobbled him. If it was injury vs physical decline (even when healthy) then that is great and best case scenario.

That's how it was. Parker started the season looking like a hybrid between 2013 and 2014. Spinning moves and all. I think his decline started when he sprained his ankle, next was his hamstring most probably as a side effect.

Chris

With Kyle it's two questions:

1) (Most Important) - can he have a consistent shot and find a way to use his skills off the ball
2) Mindset - he can't have a CJ mindset. He has so many great tools and he's already proven he can do some damn nice things even off the ball. Just has to be decisive and confident.

That takes success with teammates who believe and know him.
Takes time for that trust to evolve. I wish it would, the game is in his head.

The youth was definitely needed. But we had some youth last year. It's more about managed minutes and you are correct in saying it's about responsibilities. But with Manu, having legs impacts everything and I bet Manu's 3PT shot makes a comeback this year.

Butler is a rotation player but the last 2 roster spots are bench warmers/garbage time players so it won't matter much.

Bench:

West/Boban
Diaw/Bum#1(Bonner)
Kyle/Butler
Manu/Bum#2 (Williams or Simmons)
Patty/Ray

The youth was definitely needed. But we had some youth last year. It's more about managed minutes and you are correct in saying it's about responsibilities. But with Manu, having legs impacts everything and I bet Manu's 3PT shot makes a comeback this year.
I don't think we will see triple OT out there. He'll be managed better. Kyle will pick it up with other bench guys and we'll live with the result. I don't think Pop is pulling up what occurred in Dec. last year even if Tony and Kawhi are injured at the same time again. We have healthy Patty, RAy and Kyle. We'll live with what those guys can give. LMA should pick up more minutes if need be. I don't think Manu will go through the same as last year. He was never quite back the same after that bad stretch. He acknowledge publicly 20 mins he'll be good. If you need him for 35 for a game (OT or what not), he wont be good for the last 15.

David looks more old than lost IMO. Plus I think he is putting himself too deep into the paint on offense. Not off any screens either. He's just sitting in the paint and I think if he operated a little further out it would be better but we will see. His shot is off right now something fierce.

Yeah. And Pop cut his minutes tonight. It'll be interesting to see how much he plays at OKC.

Not a one that I can remember. He made bad decisions on jumpshots too. In past games, he passed up open 3s to drive and presumably dish, but it was bad results, from traveling, to TO in congested paint. Then he forced up contested shots, when he could have looked for something better. I used to like him a lot specially next to Anderson, mostly bc he's athletic and an unselfish player, but he didn't show anything, and he got a lot of chances. Pop has a tough decision. It could be confidence issues, but its troublesome if you need him at some point, and he doesn't have confidence.

Williams can actually shoot & is already a proven end of the bench NBA player (he made over a 100 threes a couple of seasons ago) meanwhile Simmons had a very good court vision/athleticism but can't shoot & has loose handles. If he was a lockdown defender like Tony Allen then he could have been a decent rotation player.

I was calling for the Spurs to bring him in this summer. He was a damned good Euro player, and a lot stronger than you might think. But I was still shocked when they got him - especially at that price. If he's making his rotations on time, he's got the ability to be a disruption in the paint. If you remember, Tiago picked up a lot of reaching fouls his first year (or two) because he was late getting there. Bobi has a high BBIQ, so nights like this shouldn't be a surprise. I think he'll be looked at as one of the bargains of the offseason. Not saying he'll be up for Rookie of the Year. But a hell of a good big off the bench, for what he's getting paid.

Yea, really no reason to keep Reggie Williams imo, especially over Ray. Like Storm said he is no more than a very end of the bench player and has proven that. Ray Mac on the other hand has alot of upside and is good insurance at a position where we have an injury prone starter on the downside of his career. Neither of them are going to get a whole lot of PT this year, so makes more sense to keep the guy who can be part of the Spurs future.

Ray can already shoot as well as CoJo & doesn't hesitate on offense. He has the same scorers mentality as Patty, he's just not as good a shooter. Defensively CoJo was a beast & that's not Ray's forte...maybe Simmons could figure it out & find a niche as a backup perimeter defender.

When it will be all said and done, Anderson will be a better player than Kawhi, TBH.
Kawhi is a better fit next to the Big 3, but Kyle will be better once they are done.
