Better not be close tbh. They are saying it could maintain it's strength right up to landfall because the waters are so warm.

Now, I'm sure EVERYONE down there knows this monster is coming. Yet, there will likely be numerous deaths. Why people hang around when they know storms like this are on the way is beyond me. 200mph, Patricia is coming with the strap-on. Hide ya kids hide ya wife

The frijoleros should consider packing up and saying goodbye to their homes in the area, plenty of time to not die.

Biggest hurricane in History.

Incorrect. That record belongs to Typhoon Tip. This is actually a relatively small hurricane for a Cat 5 storm.

This hurricane, however, does have the strongest (confirmed) sustained wind speed in history.

Maybe they are making the distinction between the use of "hurricane" and "typhoon" as to the different hemispheres?

Weather guy just said the size is actually pretty small, but the conditions just made it ripe for category 5 intensity and pressure.

it's crazy that it went from 60mph to 200mph in a span of 30 hours.

benefactor
10-23-2015, 12:03 PM
Yeah...all the record references have to do with strength and not size. I believe it set a time frame record for low to high intensity too.

I still have satellite shots of Hurricane Ike. Now that was a big fucking storm.

Yes. By comparison here is the largest storm on record, Typhoon Tip, which also possesses the worldwide all time record low pressure on planet Earth of 870mb.

https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/7/7a/Typhoon_tip_peak.jpg

This is at his peak, where sustained winds inside the eyewall were 160mph... over a 10 minute period of time. Which is just beyond insane.

Since there is no land in that photo to compare sizes to, here is Tip superimposed on the United States:

Hope everyone makes it safe..How often are these kind of Hurricane?

I remember living as a Kid and having to experience 4-5 typhons ever year..House was always under repair every year...every few years or so someone I know dies.

Really hoping everyone evacuated...

LOL...

She's a legal citizen. In her 60's and been here most her life.

She would not be employed where I work if she wasn't.

She probably make ~ $90k annual.

No. Then we lived in bricks and it didn't last either..

tougher wooden houses are more safe in extreme conditions....
