Sup, EL. If it wasnt for the haters I would wish you well on a good season. El, you throw your shots at Lakers/Kobe. But you don't go overboard with the ridiculous and make good game thread posts. you are cool in my book even if we disagree from time to time.
Ok enough with the pleasantries. I look forward to watching my nicca Russ dunk on the SPURS front-line come Wednesday, For durant to drop 30 on Kiwi And The Sege to swat Tony and slap his member on Tony's forehead in the aftermath ...

You guys got some pieces at least to make the games watchable, tbh, which is much better than what it's been the last couple of seasons, IMO.
Good to hear you're doing well, and yeah, as the season starts.... FTL :lol :toast

It's all good, El. Weird that neither of our teams playing opening night. Most years since 1999 SPurs or Lakers were defending champs and even when not one of us (usualy us) was playing opening night. Should be a great season if we still arent very good. Last year was disgusting. Im hoping I can leave the "tank" at the base all year. she has been really busy the past two seasons ...

I suspect the Spurs will come out of the gate a bit flat, tbh... might play great some games, but suck terribly on others... it's gonna take some time to assemble everything...
That's a departure from previous seasons where we used to use the familiarity we had to start off with a great record. I think this season we're more like most teams that take a while to figure things out. We have an exciting roster though...

I know the excitement is tied to LMA but as a somewhat neutral party I think Kiwi is the bigger and better story. he just won DPOTY and was ranked 7th by ESPN insiders even over Blake Griffin who was a top MVP candidate just a few seasons ago.
IDK, I really like Kiwi but that is pretty big role as a top player on a title contender for him to mature in to and the 7th best player in the NBA. (he was just a high level starter when he won Finals MVP). I think so far he has met or exceeded expectations but now the pressure to be a possibly a #2 or #1 ... it will be interesting to see how he adjusts.

Damn. well Davis can begin his MVP campaign by hanging with the champs. I think Davis will put up video game numbers but you guys needs to get a top 4/5 seed in West for him to win it ...

Well, they are still stacked talent wise, but with Kyrie injured and Dela not being that good, Mo has to play. Mo will be a fine back up IMO. He's not a defender, but his ability to score is very, very useful.

I agree for the most part but he wants max and he is not a max player ...but with all the money spent i dont blame him and no guarantee they repeat ....
I think Bogut will be the odd man out, since Iguodala is quite important off the bench in today's perimeter oriented NBA. Big men who can be serviceable defensively especially against PnR, should be attainable through the draft or free agency.

The Pelicans have improved their offense with Gentry, but old habits die hard and they have injuries.
What is up with AD? He sucks! He is a matador on defense, out of position, and hangs out on the perimeter on offense. Why isn't he posting up Draymond every trip down? So, so not impressed.

What does a regular season game mean in the scheme of things? Anyone can beat anyone, it doesn't make them a good team. What matters is how much winning a team can do (like lottery amount of wins, but nearly 60). Spurs swept GS last year, does that make them the champs?

Paul is probably a better individual player, but his style of play will never win a championship..the best part about Curry is that he draws more attention than any player in the league even without having the ball in his hands, which is a colossal advantage that you don't get from anybody else, including Lebron..

I'm saying that in this new NBA, if you didn't hear the word "max", paying Barnes 12-13M wouldn't draw such ire. I don't think he's worth it, but that's the world in which we live.
Bay's warmup uniforms and jerseys look really great this year. Did they update them. Their logo fits those rings very well.
Golden State looks extremely polished in their game thus far. Simple plays have become effortless. Anthony Davis looks disinterested already in the mist of all this. The Warriors still are young and they can continue to have a dynasty. Curry is locomotive that keeps the energy of the team up during the course of the game. The Warriors stagnate in very rare instances. They always seem like their having fun and constantly are making ground breaking plays. Their fan base adds to this.
This is New Orlean's test..but I feel this is wayyyyy to early for them to encounter the Champions who haven't lost a beat and are fresh. They may have a tough schedule. I know Pelicans fans don't want their guys to have their confidence crushed early. I sincerely doubt they win this game.
-------
Chicago still goes through offensive woes during areas of the game where they are up but can't put the nail in the coffin. Their offense is what continues to hold them back. Their defense is absolutely fine. Their offense always manage to go cold mid game and they turn it up just enough in the end to edge a win. It hasn't cut it for them for nearly a half a decade+ in the playoffs.
Cleveland signed a variety of team cancers in JR Smith, Richard Jefferson, and Mo Williams. These guys are going to be placeholders in the playoffs because honestly, everyone should know how 4th quarters will be by now. Now they have an extremely overpaid bench player on a max contract who didn't even break 30 mins tonight or double digits. Hell. He had two points.
The delusion will stay alive as long as LeBron is a cavalier. If his presence were to ever disappear, it would take 4 years for them to completely clean up that mess. Worst case scenario..a decade, from waivers and having to rebuild AGAIN because honestly, how bad were the Cavaliers before LeBron came back?
------------------
Detroit was going to be better than the credit they were given. Stan Van Gundy has a career in coaching Dark Horses. All their starters scored 15 or more points and by their lenovo stats, they put in all the work. I haven't watched Detroit much myself. May have to change that.
Atlanta did what I thought they would. They seem to have lost all confidence in themselves instead of building confidence. They lost their best defender in the off season to the Raps.
Its only one game but they should have been prepared, regardless.

All of that is absolutely true, and Barnes is an above average overall player, but I don't believe it would be that difficult to find an athletic wing that shoots 36% from 3 for his career in the playoffs(on mostly open shots), and is probably a slightly above average defensive player..
I can't even remember noticing him in the playoffs, last year, yet they still cruised to a title..

There is going to be such a large jump in the cap that I don't think it will be an issue at all for GS. No way GS loses Curry. The Luxury Tax line is 84M this year and GS is at 78M. No danger

I'm saying that in this new NBA, if you didn't hear the word "max", paying Barnes 12-13M wouldn't draw such ire. I don't think he's worth it, but that's the world in which we live.
64 divided by 5 (isnt that max years you can offer) quite a bit more than 12-14 million? Im no cap expert or mathematician but i think in new NBA that is still crazy.

KD owns the Warriors & they can match the Warriors small ball lineup by playing Ibaka at center. Westrbook would be the X-Factor: Good Russy vs. Bad Russy.

There's no need to moneyball at this point though. Cap jumping up huge eliminates the need to do that. Especially with the salary floor being so high, might as well have a player that is well liked, young and fits your role.
Can he be replaced? Absolutely, but he still has room to improve. What if he morphs into a 40% 3PT shooter? Changes the variables. It's the Draymond question (although Draymond is a way better defender). They really are a sum of their parts (bench included).

Barnes is valuable for their system b/c he has the size/strength to guard PFs on defense when Draymond is playing center. He was the one guarding Z-Bo when Bogut was benched. Otherwise, he isn't a scorer like Klay to be his replacement; teams actually put their weakest defenders on him or leave him open to double Curry. Livingston/Iggy/Barbosa made up for Klay's lack of scoring in the Finals.

He's no where near the scorer Klay is, but like you said he was able to do a few things. You have to have the flexibility if you can't trust Klay (which they probably do) which is what I meant by that.

They don't have the cap space to sign an equivalent player from the FA market. They can go over the cap to re-sign him b/c they have his Bird rights. His agent can play hard-ball knowing they are willing to overpay him for his services, that's basically what Tristan Thompson did since the Cavs were capped out.

Curry does so many things right that its hard to believe he's just a point guard. He's on every play and on every area of the court. His scoring greatly overshadows his point guard ability and his point guard ability is elite. This is the type of player Chris Paul couldn't' ever be.

Also, I think we are discussing two different things. I know how bird rights work and their financial situation - when I say they can replace him, I'm referring strictly to quality of player/talent. But I think GS will have a lot of cap space next year with the jump anyways. They have all their main guys locked up for at least next year and a bunch of FA (lower end) next year.

You are right, I didn't put Dray's number in there. Even with that, they are at roughly 76M with a potential 90M cap. They have plenty of opportunity to shake things up if they want to - while it's not a guarantee, the potential is there. If they don't bring back Ezeli and know they want to replace Barnes, they will have plenty of money.
However, even with 8M, I believe they can talent-wise replace Barnes. That would basically be a high end MLE contract which for Barnes actual on court production is probably a fair talent replacement IMO. But I do think the end up keeping Ezeli and Barnes spending their money that way. I was just speaking in a bubble about his talent level.

They OBVIOUSLY wanted to keep him & didn't want to risk competing w/ a ridiculous offer sheets. They were hoping to sign him for 16 mill per or less but it looks like his agent believes that he can get more than what Tobias Harris got from Orlando.
