https://31.media.tumblr.com/accd11182b013cdec89af9b65be51eac/tumblr_mjvp3cT07b1rv7ug4o1_500.gif

He's not going to stop shooting, but he cant drive to the hoop or work his way in to better spots because his body isnt what it used to be. So he takes a lot of bad threes that might go in during the first half but are way off in the second half as his body gets tired.

Remember when Byron Scott made the idiotic statement that 10 three point attempts AS A TEAM was "a good mix" of inside/outside game?

Ya, I echoed the comments of many that believed he could be a useful contributor in a reduced role the past 2-3 years, but that boat has sailed, tbh..he just doesn't have anything left anymore..no lift, no lateral quickness, no ability to blow by defenders..even his post game is useless now, since he can't create enough separation to get the shot off..

It's exacerbated by the worst coach in the NBA, too, that still plays him big minutes and puts him in situations where he's allowed to shoot as much as he wants..

Players like him want to stay on top because of competitive nature and it's hard to take a lesser role, when it's obvious he needs to let the youngins step up now and take a lesser role.

Kobe's actually shooting the ball just fine inside the arc, 45.5 percent which is better than last season. His 20.7 % shooting beyond the arc is what's killing his percentage. He wont stay at 20% eventually he'll catch a nice streak and bring it up to respectable levels. Key of course is health.

Brah, obviously he has to work really hard to get his shot off inside the arc that's why he's settling for so many threes. He has no lift and has to throw about 10 pump fakes before getting his shot off...up the volume on them and those 2 PT FGs will quickly go sub 40% as well.

Kobe's game is hard to predict even at this point of his career so it's hard to make any projections since he's an emotionally invested player which is one of the reasons analytics hates him. He certainly needs to take a back seat and there's a good indication this season could finally be it.

I wasn't suggesting we'll see an incremental spike but rather pointing out he probably won't stay at 20% beyond the arc, unless another season ending injury stops his season short. His usage rate (so far) is already at it's lowest for the past 15 years and this is with him crazily jacking up shots at an unprecedented rate beyond the 3 pt line. He ranks fourth among touches per minute in his team and if restrictions remains the same, it's not a wild idea to think Kobe can actually bring his percentages at a more respective level, given his circumstances.

Logically, this makes the most sense but like I said it's difficult to make an accurate projection on someone who dictates his game plan based on emotions...

"I get held to much higher standards than most of my peers," Bryant told Yahoo Sports on his walk out of the Barclays Center. "If I have a bad shooting night, it's, 'He's in the grave. He's in the coffin.' Look around the league, and other players have bad shooting nights – and it's just a bad shooting night.

"But the expectations that they have for me, they're actually something that I appreciate. Achilles injury. Fractured knee. Torn shoulder. Twentieth year in the league. Thirty-seven years old. All that, and the expectations are that I average 30 points.

"But I appreciate those standards, because it's something that still pushes me, still drives me."

He laughs and nods in agreement with himself.

"Let's see what I can do," Bryant said.

Ya, I remember the Jeter criticism only coming from hardcore fans and non-mainstream media:lol..

I guess the difference is that the basketball player has a more prominent role..

I don't really feel bad for Kobe, after thinking about it..he doesn't give a fuck about the opinions of the media or fans:lol..nigga is getting paid 20+ million per year to shoot as much as he wants, the road fans pay to see him and most casual Lakers fans still go to the games to see him, as well..sucks for hardcore Laker fans since he's clearly killing the growth of their young guys, but it's not like having Byron Scott is any better:lol..

I'd pay $20 million for a big name star to ruin their legacy, sell tickets, periodically injury their teammates, take the ball away from the young talent, destroy their confidence, and teach them how not to act.

We might never know when the Lakers decided to go and pull a Philly like multi year tank, but they've been pretty successful about it. Now you can criticize the picks, but you can't criticize their tanking successes. If they can keep the pick this year they should win front office of the year or something.

How bad has Bryant’s start been? Historically bad. No player in the shot-clock era has shot as poorly as Bryant is shooting on a similar number of attempts per game. In fact, you have to go all the way back to 1951-52 to find a minutes-qualified player who completed a season with a worse efficiency/volume combination.

:lmao that article is hilarious, I'll go ahead and post the rest of it here so everyone can laugh without clicking the link

How bad has Bryant’s start been? Historically bad. No player in the shot-clock era has shot as poorly as Bryant is shooting on a similar number of attempts per game. In fact, you have to go all the way back to 1951-52 (http://bkref.com/tiny/O7bl2) to find a minutes-qualified player who completed a season with a worse efficiency/volume combination. That man: “Jumpin' Joe” Fulks, one of the NBA’s first high-volume scorers and a Hall of Famer who is credited with popularizing the jump shot.

Fulks shot just 31.2% on 17.7 attempts per game for the Philadelphia Warriors (http://www.si.com/nba/team/golden-state-warriors)that season, a rough showing that nevertheless managed to land him on the 1952 All-Star team. (:lol just like Kirby) “When I was hot, I was really hot,” Fulks said, according to his official Murray State University biography. “But when I was cold, sometimes it was bad.” Hmm… who does that sound like?

To fully comprehend the scope of the Bryant/Fulks comparison, here’s a “highlight reel” of Fulks’s deliberate set up and wonky two-handed delivery in glorious black and white.

bDzfNbS_LbU

While Fulks was on the cutting edge of his time, pioneering a form of scoring that would change the game forever, Bryant looks to be reaching back to a past that is gone for good. Everything looks difficult this season: Bryant is throwing up an uncomfortable amount of airballs, he’s settling for three-pointers at a career-high rate, he’s not consistently getting to his spots off the dribble, he’s generating little offense in the basket area, and he’s regularly beaten back in transition. Nevertheless, he’s still posting a 28.7 usage rate, tops among Lakers rotation players, and he’s leading the Lakers in shots per game.

Take that all together, and Bryant has been one of the league’s most damaging shooters this season, falling far short of his long-established standard. Lakers coach Byron Scott has repeatedly said that Bryant is the “last guy” he’s worried about. Scott really needs to rethink that position, especially if he actually believes it. The age-related trend in Bryant’s shooting, influenced by three straight season-ending injuries, couldn’t be clearer.

While it might not stay quite this bad over the course of an 82-game season, it’s hard to envision Bryant orchestrating a remarkable turnaround. No one wins—not the Lakers, not Scott, not Bryant, and certainly not young building blocks like D’Angelo Russell and Julius Randle (http://www.si.com/college-basketball/player/julius-randle)—when Bryant takes and misses this many shots.

:lol Jumpin' Kirby Fulks

I hate the Lakers but this is just sad. Kirby has an unbelievably shit attitude and Scott is just abysmal for endorsing it.

Feel bad for all the other players on the Lakers roster for having to put up with these two massive faggots.

Still pretty hilarious though.

He should take less contested fade-away shots. He can't hit them like he's 27... He's 37 now, the lift and the explosiveness on that shot is now diminished.

Good game tonight though, 17-8-9 tonight in a win is a good thing.

if you add in some transition dunks(and a lot of free throws), his game is pretty much the same as the rest of his career..

There is no chance in hell Kobe retires this year. He's much to egotistical to simply "call it a career" at the end of a year.

When its his last year, we'll all know. He'll make sure of it.
