For some reason, my internet browser began using 100% CPU usage when I click on links. It is MUCH, MUCH slower than before. If I try to open multiple browser windows, they both usually freeze. This litteraly happened from one day to the next.

WTF is going on :cuss :cuss :cuss ???? Please, please someone help!

Thanks.

Are you on XP? Do a restore to a point at which it was working. You'll spend far too much time fixing it another way.

I was about to do that Manny. Then I remebered all of the praise I heard on here about Firefox. I thought I'd give that a shot since it appeared that the only time I was having problems was with IE. Low and behold, IT WORKED. It is faster than it has ever been!!!!!!! Wow, I should have done this along time ago!

Ah, I thought you were already using Firefox. I think it blows IE away. Wait untill you start using tabbed browsing, the quicksearch, and have 5 homepages. Then you won't be able to live without it.

I keep trying to use Firefox more regularly but I don't see anything special about it. I understand the security concerns of IE, but it's to the point that I get as many pop-ups and trojans attacking on Firefox as on IE. In fact, LJ has some virus on his computer now that he can't get rid of and he uses Firefox exclusively.

Firefox is a little faster for me, but so many sites are still not compatible with it. And all that tabbed browsing, etc. doesn't have any use to me for some reason.

To each his own I guess.

LJ has the WinFixer virus on his computer right now. And nothing will get rid of it so far.

As Firefox has gotten more popular, the pop ups have gone up big time. It's not a huge problem, but it still annoys the hell out of me.

That sucks about the virus. I don't usually visit any suspect sites, but that doesn't mean jack now adays.

For those of you using Firefox, here's a speed tip I found useful. If you're on broadband, I recommend it.

1.Type "about:config" into the address bar and hit return.
Scroll down and look for the following entries:
network.http.pipelining
network.http.proxy.pipelining
network.http.pipelining.maxrequests

2. Alter the entries as follows:
-Set "network.http.pipelining" to "true"
-Set "network.http.proxy.pipelining" to "true"
-Set "network.http.pipelining.maxrequests" to some number like 30. This means it will make 30 requests at once.

3. Lastly right-click anywhere and select New-> Integer. Name it "nglayout.initialpaint.delay" and set its value to "0".

Winfixer is some what of a virus not spyware. Upgrade your anti-virus condom and run it, you'll see Wu something or another virus.

BB, you're probably infected with RATware/adware/spyware/etc.

have you tried scanning with anti-virus, RegistryMechanic, CounterSpy, SpyBot?
and/or running ZoneAlarm as personal firewall?

hooking up continuously to internet unprotected will get your machine fucked pronto, esp running un-patched IE.

Firefox also has loads and loads of cool themes and extensions. IE and Firefox are not even on the same planet. You can customize the crap out of firefox.

Let me get a screenshot of pimpzilla theme on firefox...

Yeah, I run spybot regularly as well as McAfee. It removed some viruses I had but did not fix the slowness.

Here's Pimpzilla with Bork Text extension on...phonetically sounds out everything on screen as Bork, the Swedish Chef from Muppet show would say it...

Pretty funny stuff.
