Even when the Lakers were the strongest team in the league, the Bobcats had their number every year. There will always be a team that has your team's number because they play a style of basketball that your team is not prepared to defend against or just can't for whatever reason. Those teams are normally not going to be in the Finals however because other teams out there are indeed prepared for them because they play the same style of basketball just better. The Spurs will not meet the Wizards in the Finals, that you can be certain of, but if they did they would destroy them in a seven game series.. All we need to worry about is beating Oklahoma City, Golden State, Clippers and whatever other wildcard like Houston might show up. That's it.

Seems like a number of teams have the Spurs number..... Think the Knicks and Utah too.

And the bucks.

Spurs have owned the Bucks as of late. Really since they got Kawhi.

This is true, some teams just match up better against others, even average ones like the fucking semi final in the East ceiling - Wizards.

Like the Warriors fail against the Spurs :downspin:

The wizards game wasn't about matchups. We played a very careless/mistake ridden game. We are not winning many games against anybody decent that way.

Nah, we haven't lost to them at home in forever, so it's not a really good analogy.

A better analogy would be the Bucks from like 1999 to 2007. They REALLY had our number during that era, big time....... I was a youngster for most of those but I still recall all the lost home games to them, and the road games were even worse...the OT road loss where Tim missed a bank shot that would have forced double OT... the road loss where Tim had a game-winning dunk at the buzzer waved off because it was *allegedly* still in his hands... the road loss where Bogut made a lucky catch-tip-prayer with 0.7 seconds in OT... a bunch more examples like that.

The Spurs game relies on them setting the pace. They let the Wizards set the pace and tried to play run and gun basketball with them. That works okay when you have a core group on the floor and you are accustomed to playing together but when you get new faces, fast brakes don't work well because people don't know where they're supposed to be.

committing 20 turnovers against a run-n-gun team is never a winning strategy

Playing style had nothing to do with the past two losses vs Washington. Last year we got couple of guys injured (including Kawhi) and this year the Spurs committed 21 turnovers. With more than half totally unforced. Just careless out of sync basketball.

If you're so desperate to rationalize the loss, it's pretty easy. First half regular season Wizards is a top 3 team in the East. In fact, they almost looked like the best team in the East last year during the first half of the season. The Wizards will run out of steam later. The Spurs, on the other hand, suffered losses such as Splitter, Marco, Baynes, and Cojo and is trying to integrate a ball dominant Aldridge. Plus for some reason, Pop is okay with Leonard shooting 20+ shots per game, which creates another new thing that the Spurs have to adapt to. Hopefully the easy stretch in November can give the Spurs some easy wins and boost their confidence in the new system.

Wizards don't have the Spurs number. Losses happen when teams play mediocre; especially on the road. We can't have much of this if we want HCA, because the Warriors are bringing it every night.

And the bucks.

Man I remember them seemingly always beating the Spurs when I was growing up. Michael Redd and Ray Allen days. Not the case these days tho.

Wiz have a good team. They should beat the Spurs on their home court when the Sors are coming in on the 3rd game in 4 nights.
