Lets see if Manziel can make some big plays against Cincy. Dalton historically terrible against Cleveland.

early in the third quarter down by 4 with 3rd and 10 you run it down the middle?

FkLA

Why not? Seemed like his other options were covered. It was a good effort and he nearly got the first down. No guarantee that a pass would've yielded better results.

yeah i watched the game. the bengals made a simple adjustment and manziel couldn't do anything

FkLA
11-05-2015, 11:26 PM
:lol Postgame crew echoing the same thing about the WRs inability to get open unless Football extended plays.

But yeah let's blame it on Football. While we're at it let's also blame him because the Oline got eaten up in the second half.

spurraider21
11-05-2015, 11:33 PM
lol, as i said, it's a really tough spot. cleveland isn't a talented team and they were on the road against an elite team. i wasnt really expecting manziel to have good production. but he's pretty inept when operating from the pocket

mccown is nothing special but he was at least competent with this browns offense. he moves around a bit too, but still does most of his damage from the pocket

FkLA
11-05-2015, 11:42 PM
Are you saying the WRs would've magically created separation and the Oline would've blocked better if McCown was in there? He's looked competent bc he hasn't faced an elite team on the road. I'm pretty sure Football looked competent and got a W last time he faced a team that wasn't this talented.

spurraider21
11-06-2015, 12:01 AM
:lol this is exactly what colts fans sound like with regards to luck and hasselbeck this year, instead of just acknowledging that luck's struggles are largely on him

the difference is mccown has a better ability to make a read and get rid of the ball quickly. that is what good NFL quarterbacks do nowadays. look and brady and rodgers... they get rid of the ball quicker than anybody. Dalton gets rid of the ball quick.

palmer is sort of a throwback, holding the ball and constantly driving the ball

FkLA
11-06-2015, 12:14 AM
Yeah, and I'm sure getting rid of the ball quicker would've made a world of difference when the WRs were severely overmatched. :rolleyes

I like McCown, he's had a solid year and isn't reluctant to mentor Football like that scrub Hoyer was. But it's intellectually dishonest to use his performances against weaker competition as proof that he would've had much success against an elite team on the road. McCown can't block for the OLine or create separation for the WRs.

i acknowledged twice in this thread that manziel was thrown into a really tough spot. he was exceeding (albeit low) expectations early on, and fizzled later

i'm comparing struggling quarterbacks. doesn't mean they have to struggle the same way. completing 15-33 passes is struggling, and yes i know gabriel had a terrible drop. when you hold the ball longer, pressure can play a bigger role. in today's NFL, the greater qb's are the ones who get rid of the ball quicker (notable exceptions like palmer and ben). its why the pats can use a patchwork OL and still crush teams

This is assuming guys were actually open and Football just wasn't making the correct reads in a quick manner. That wasn't the case. Even when he stayed in the pocket and made quick throws the WRs were simply overmatched. Obviously there were exceptions here or there (completions, drops, and I'm sure he missed some reads too) but overall it clearly had more to do with the team being severely overmatched than with anything Football did wrong.

i beg to differ. Especially when you check the passes that he made, you can clearly see the receiver open at least 2 seconds more than needed. You could also see some passes to the TE that were just straight up missed .. The only thing that was good is that he did not go johnny jumpball all over..

The AFC has 3 of the top 4 teams in the league/5 of the top 6 according to SRS and virtually any other advanced metric you want:lol..

The Broncos have a top 3 defense of all-time, so far, according to Football Outsiders, and the Patriots are having one of the best starts in league history..Cinci is also far better than any team in the NFC, too..Cardinals are legit, though, until Palmer gets hurt..

Green Bay is the same team they have been since the SB run, tbh, albeit with no weapons now..

They can't beat teams with elite defenses, but they'll destroy teams that utilize the same style as them:lol..if that elite defense has a QB that can run(Wilson, Kapernick, Newton), then they are virtually guaranteed to lose..
