Parker and Green last night

I watched the first 3 quarters and thought Parker and Green played very well.
The stats bear that out with both shooting high %s. Parker with 5 assists. Zero turnovers between them.

But they are the only 2 Spurs with negative +/- for the game.

Just a statistical anomaly in this particular case? Or just a matter of them being against the Blazer's first team for a longer period of time than the other Spurs?

Blazers were fighting for every possession last night. Lillard has been going off this year. He's been the 3rd best PG in the league behind Curry and Westbrook so far. Tough for our guards to handle.

Makes sense. But isn't that partially a function of the Spurs bench playing the Clip's bench which probably is weaker in D and transition D than the starters?

I don't really look at +/- or the stats much but it just stuck out today because Spurs starting guards had a quality game.

Blazers were fighting for every possession last night. Lillard has been going off this year. He's been the 3rd best PG in the league behind Curry and Westbrook so far. Tough for our guards to handle.

I haven't been keeping up with the Blazers and didn't realize how good McCallum was either. Definitely tough match up.

It's a function of playing fewer minutes. The Spurs got off to slow starts, and the bench carried them. Both Leonard and Green did well with the bench, but Green didn't get to play with them as much (Butler took some of his minutes). The same can be said for Parker, though Mills is probably better than him.

Sometimes Mills looks as quick at TP used to be. Just doesn't have the handles and moves.

My only negative comment about TP last night was the constant behind the back passes during the set offense. No turnovers but he's not super accurate with them. Seems like they end up short hopping the receiver a lot of the time and they have to corral the ball off their shins.

To me, it just shows that Patty/Manu were just that much better.

Parker and Green only took 14 shots compared to 40 for the Portland starting backcourt.

Our starting lineup has two guys who are primarily iso players, which limits the ball movement, speed and assists levels of the starting unit. Parker and Green were both more efficient last night than were Lillard particularly and McCallum as well.

The starting unit is adjusting to a new type of offense than was the case in prior years and thus is not yet as efficient as the second unit who has been playing the same way with the same guys for most of the lat four years.

Everybody might just give them a bit of time.

It used to be the case that Parker was attacked for playing hero-ball. Then he was attacked for not being thin enough. This year he is way way down in his shot attempts and is totally fit, but the player haters on this forum just move along to find something else to bitch about.

McCallum lit up everybody they put on him. Parker was on Lillard most of the time that he (Parker) was out there, and Lillard was quite inefficient, but he is a great shooter and made baskets against Parker, Green, Mills and Ginobili alike.

Frankly, the team didn't really put this game away until after Portland's Leonard left with a dislocated shoulder.

McCollum had a hot start when Danny was defending him, in the second half Pop put Kawhi on CJ and he couldn't get the shots he took in the first quarters.
Also, in the last minutes of the game, Pop put Kawhi on Lillard and "he could hardly even hit free throws" like some PtR guy said.
Similar to the game against the Thunder, Parker was on Westbrook most of the time but in the closing minutes Pop told Danny to guard him.
